Hadn’t been out to SL in a while, but I enjoy the course layout and conditions. Played Saturday 8/27/16 on a sunny warm hazy day without too much wind. The shop doesn’t book singles on their website or by phone, so I took an email blast I had from Donovan Daily and walked on at 1130 for $49. I was paired with an amicable local single behind several foursomes, so we enjoyed a leisurely round in around 4 hours without seeing anyone behind us until a single heading back to Vegas caught up at #15 tee, then we played in together.

Overall course conditions were very good. Greens had good coverage and rolled at medium speed, although I thought the speeds were inconsistent between greens. The first two greens were pretty soft, but after that the greens were firmer, and shots had more release. Many of the greens had a lot of debris on them, like sand and grass clippings from players’ shoes.

Fairways and rough had good coverage. Rough could be short or longer and wiry. I had a string of very unfortunate lies today – either in fairways or rough the ball frequently sat down or got into unrepaired divots or slashes in the rough – players are not using the sand/seed supplied. I was in several traps and the sand was soft and abundant but damp – many previous players had not bothered to rake their damage, and overall the bunkers had not been groomed and were very uneven. Tees were wide and level. Not extensive damage on par-3 tees, but players are not filling their divots – blue tees on #6 and #13 had sand boxes but ….. no scoops.

The posting computer was out of order. I was looking forward to one of their good breakfast burritos, but by 1130 they had stopped offering them – bummer! The drop zone on the par-3 #4 is sloping and just short-cut rough – I’d avoid needing that one! The vegetation in front of tee #12 needs to be trimmed down. Plenty of water available today, about every 3 holes. Saw the cart girl a couple times, but no rangers out today. Still recommended.

Played 7/22 in a company tournament @7:30 and 7/26 with a couple buddies @ 3:30. Course is in great shape considering the drought and the recent heat wave. There were only a couple brown areas on the course and pretty much all on the outside border of the rough. Other than that this course is lush! Tee boxes, always great. Fairways were like carpet, rough maybe around the 2" mark and plentiful so depending on the lie could be a tough shot, sand traps were great with plenty of sand (I found many) but did have one thinner and slightly crusty one. Greens were rolling perfect, I think they aerated about a month - month and a half ago and they are receptive but still quick. A little trickier than I remember though because a lot of putt weren't breaking as much as I thought they used to. Tournament was a slow day but I saw quite a few beginners out there but yesterday was great. We had to wait just a little for the first 6 holes and then it opened up completely. We took our time with no pressure behind and came in right about 4 hours and 15 minutes. If you are coming out to the Inland Empire drink plenty of fluids cause it is HOT out there, consistently over 100°.

Played 7/10, 9:15 tee time, got out right on time. This course seems to always be head and shoulders above the competition in regard to conditions, and this day was no different. Superb all around. The bunkers were a little firm, with greenside being softer than fairway, but not firm enough to gripe too much about. Greens are fast and smooth, fairways are full and cut nicely, and the rough ranges from playable to very penal based on how deep you go in. Always a great experience at Sierra Lakes.

If you have not played here...GO PLAY HERE! The course in incredibly green and the fairways are lush. I drive almost an hour to play this course and every time its absolutely worth it. The wind picks up in the afternoon so twilight times make the course a little harder but again, very worth the green fees. Shop guys are nice and their practice facility has a grass driving range all day every day. this course is in my rotation every 4-6 weeks for a reason. they do a great job out here.

Played here on Saturday 2/6/16 in a club tournament we probably should not have played. I've played Sierra Lakes many times and it is a fun, not to challenging, track normally. But with howling wind!!! The winds had to be at least 30 mph with gust up to 40 mph!! Pace of play goes out the window with wind like that. We managed to get through it nearly 6 hours later!. Had this not been a club tournament I would not have played. We clubbed up as much as 4 clubs into the wind on some holes, then with the wind at our back nearly drove 350 yard greens on other holes! The course itself was in fantastic shape. Green fairways and smooth FAST greens. Bunker sand was plentiful and excellent. Tee boxes were level with good coverage. the rough was playable and in good shape as well. I'll be back, hopefully on a nice 10 to 20 mph wind day! lol

Played Wed 1/13 for the afternoon rate of $35. Pace of play was excellent, bunkers have lots of nice fluffy sand to play out of. Tee boxes and fairway landing areas have lots of unfixed divot marks. Greens are smooth, roll well but dont accept well struck pitches and approach shots. I prefer fast greens as a rule, but these may have gotten away from the crew. Very hard to put a nice roll on your ball without running it well past the hole. I hadnt played here in a while and don't remember it being so difficult in the past. I've always liked the design of this track and hope to play again when spring comes and conditions normalize.

Played on Tuesday, 1/12 at 9:20am on a beautiful sun soaked SoCal morning. Overall the conditions at Sierra Lakes are a little mixed (we'll get to that in a minute) and the course design is somewhat bland, but not bad. Let's start with the customer service. Sierra Lakes doesn't officially allow singles to make tee times, but when I called for a same-day tee time they but they were very accommodating. After checking in the starter told me to grab a cart, and I asked if I could walk to which he said "this course is too difficult to walk and we want to keep the POP at 4 hrs, so carts are required." Ok, no problem I'll take a cart. For the record, I think this would be a very reasonable walking course and we ended up waiting on nearly every tee box anyways so I don't think the carts helped speed up play. Never saw a beverage cart, but it being a Tuesday morning I didn't expect to see one anyways. I didn't get a chance to hit any ball on the range, but it looked like a mix of grass and mats. Also the carts do not have GPS and the course isn't really that well marked so bring your own range finder/GPS device. The course itself is OK. Conditions are very mixed. The greens are fabulous and really, really fast (like PGA Tour fast). They are mostly smooth, although there were a fair amount of pitch marks, and they held incoming approach shots quite well despite being firm. However, as good as the greens are, that's about how bad the fairways are. First the fairways lack definition. There were numerous holes where you actually couldn't tell where the fairway ended and the "2nd cut" began (I use that term loosely). Also the fairways were very thin and had a different type of grass encroaching causing very poor lies. Bunkers were consistent with good coverage of courser, river bed sand. Tee boxes were level and well marked. The course design is a little bland. It's a shorter course measuring 6800 from tips but since it's so firm it plays closer to 6600. Nearly every single par 4 is framed by a bunker at the landing zone and has an elevated green that slopes back to front. I don't have anything against that type of hole, but after 13 or 14 straight holes that look the same, you start yearning for something different. The par 3's are also a bit bland, 3 of the 4 today were set up from the same yardage (170-180). This might have been just bad luck, but i would of enjoyed hitting something other than my 6 iron into a green. The par 5's do provide a good change of pace and offer a bit of risk/reward. Unfortunately all that risk/reward is off the tee and none of the par 5's require much strategy after the tee shot. Overall Sierra Lakes is an average golf course with phenomenal greens. If you want to experience "pro-like" green speeds for a decent price (I payed $42), Sierra Lakes is your place. However, don't expect immaculate conditions or a huge variety of holes.

I've been playing here since the second day they were open and have always considered It the best maintained public course in all four surrounding counties. Sierra Lakes Golf Club has continually maintained a level of excellence....until yesterday...but I'm calling out the superintendent for his entire staff. I lived on the course for six years and subsequently played it a lot. The maintenance crew USED to understand the etiquette of golf, but not this current crew. It seemed like he must have had fifty people working yesterday, because we did not play one hole without have several workers buzzing by or just doing their work around us as we played. My main beef is that not one of them would stop their machines as they passed you on the tee box, fairway or greens. There were many times they would be doing their thing 10-15 feet away from you without any consideration of that fact you were over the ball or not. Even to the point on hole 13, one worker was doing the waste bunker below the tee and got stuck trying to climb out the steepest part. We tried to push and pull him out to give him a hand, but to no avail. But anther crew pulled him out with his machine and then proceeded to come mow the area around the tee box as we were hitting. We then had to wait to hit our chips around the green while he mowed the fringe area....unacceptable. Failure amongst the workers generally means lack of proper training from the top. Sierra Lakes maintenance....I'm sorry, you used to be the best around, but you deserve a F minus for the oblivious workers who don't understand that they work on a golf course not somebody's back yard.
