Finally got back out after a few months away from the game and got to play one of my favorite local courses. Played here today 7-24-15 as part of a company tournament. It was a shotgun start and they got us out on time at 7:30 am. The drought definitely has not affected Sierra Lakes as of yet. It helps that the Bermuda grass likes the heat too but it was GREEN out there today. The course looked and played fantastic. It looks like they punched the greens with the small tines maybe a couple weeks ago but did not affect putting. The greens were rolling very smooth and very few ball marks out there. Fairways were picturesque being striped and freshly mowed. Rough was very good but had a few wet muddy areas where grass coverage wasn't great but overall had great coverage. Was in no sand so can't speak for that. Tees were freshly mowed and in great shape. Only complaint I can make was POP. Shotgun start and 2 groups per hole and finished in about 5:15! At one point there was one group on a tee box 2 groups waiting behind them and us finishing up on the green about to wait after them. No marshals out today and a lot of novice golfers for the tournament. Still had a great time though.

Played on 5/17. POP just under 4:45, not bad for a sunday. The course looks pretty. Very green compared to other courses in the area. Tee boxes nice and flat. Not a lot of divot damage. Some of the widest fairways ever. Fair to poor bunkers had very large pebbles and even rocks in them. Fairways and rough are a little on the thin side but very playable but the greens... Looks nice and green but very slow and sticky and bumpy. I did not have fun on the greens. Your just praying the putts hold its line. Very bumpy. The guys i played with are regulars and said the greens are not this slow. Oh and just like the other reviews, no one fixes there ball marks here.

Enjoy playing here when I'm struggling with the driver because these are some of the widest fairways I have ever seen. I was impressed with the overall condition of the course! I thought the greens rolled exceptionally well. (Maybe because I actually made a few putts!)

I like playing here except when the wind blows, which it seems to all the time, which is just another reason I choose to play early morning.

Was out in Fontana ("Fontuckey") today on business. Was done early so I hopped on GolfNow.com and got a $10 savings on a 10 am time. Coming from LA, the traffic is all going in the opposite direction. I covered the 50 miles in 45 minutes both before and after the round. Easy drive.
The range is great. Grass and matts which is a bit rare.
The course right now is in fantastic shape. Unlike many dry and bare tight lie courses in LA, this Ted Robinson designed gem is well watered. Fairways are plush. No hard pan here. It's not fluffy but it's very nice. The rough is fair and short. Greens are definately harder to hold out of the rough. The greens are sloped. Not too many flat putts here. Some multi tiered but mostly it's sloped back to front with many approach shots being about a half a club uphill. Many of the par threes are over water. The greens right now are running true and on the slower side which is ok since you'll be facing many downhillers.

The thing about this course is its wide open. When I say wide open I mean WIDE WIDE WIDE fairways. There are many strategically placed bunkers throughout. The layout is very very fun. It's almost impossible to lose your ball but errant shots are definately penalized with the sand and many immature trees.

The course meanders through a bedroom community. But unlike other courses like this (eg River Ridge or Tustin Ranch) these houses are so far from the fairways and the fairways are so gigantic (literally the biggest I've ever seen) they just don't ever come into play. However they are ever-present and don't do anything but detract from the otherwise stunning beauty of this amazing track. What does enhance it's beauty are the also ever present mountains which cannot be escaped. Today they were and soaring and green.

This is a resort style desert/Palm Spring-like type course. It's very fun. It can be walked but it's hilly and would be a very tough trek. They serve the most delicious and truly gargantuan hotdogs here. They are literally the biggest dogs I've ever seen.

In short this place is a must play. I'll be back.

To be completely honest this is a very nice course.. is it worth the $49-55 green fee? I don't think it is. I don't think this course can compete with goosecreek, but its almost the same price. The greens here are decent but a lot of ball marks. I know the course can't do anything about other golfers not repairing their golf mark. They stack their tee times and I had a crowd of 2 , 4 somes stacked on the #1 tee. Not a big deal but it just seems like they get everyone out at the same time.

I am not taking anything away from this course. It is in very nice shape, and when the wind is not blowing its a fun course. Shot an 89 from the tips could have done a lot better.. but hey its golf

Customer service was great, course was in great shape. Exception was the greens, they have healed from previous aeration but were slow and a little bumpy, too many unrepaired ball marks, also several bunkers were not raked. POP was 4 1/2 not too bad, no waiting, and 3some behind was on our heels, which is to be expected with 4somes ahead of us, could have been a tad faster but not by much.

Breakfast was disappointing, don't open until 8AM, only thing available is an OK sandwich egg/ham/cheese or with bacon. 19th hole was decent, beer was cold, special was prime rib sandwich with fries, my buds tried it and said it was good but not great, I had the chicken salad which was good.

On 4/6/15, I walked the course on my first ever round there. I took advantage of a GolfNow deal for $39, saving $12 from the posted rate (less the GN booking fee). Three others joined me, but they rode carts. Check in was easy, and the friendly attendant said I could proceed directly to the first tee, even though it was more than 20 minutes earlier than my booked time. Rather than taking the time to properly warm up, I proceeded straight to the first tee (after noting that there was a decent driving range, and a good size practice green) - next time, I will warm up properly. The starter was courteous, and offered some advice. Later in the round, the starter, serving as marshal, helped retrieve a cleaning towel that I had dropped between the 8th green and 9th tee.

Tee boxes were all covered with lush turf, though several (playing from blue tees) had unlevel surfaces, but nothing that couldn't be overcome by moving back a club length or two. Except for a few soggy areas on slopes, fairways were for the most part very good - lush turf where balls sat up in lies from which it was easy to strike crisp shots. Rough was sticky and thick, but in some places thin enough to allow for well hit shots - on 18th hole, I made a beautiful wedge shot from a sidehill lie in rough from ~100 yards, knocking the approach to 3 feet for a birdie (sank the putt!). Bunkers appeared to have ample sand - the one fairway bunker that I played from had fluffy sand, with some pebbles and larger rocks in the mix, but playable. The greens, which had been aerated in early March, seemed generally smooth and visually appealing. Most held well hit approaches, but some of the greens didn't allow shots to bite and stop, instead releasing, leaving for some long putts. Well struck putts held their line, but those hit timidly would veer away at the cup. As almost always seems to be the case, there were far too many ball marks left unrepaired on the greens, and lots of big divots left bare in the fairways.

While on the course, a marshal was spotted a couple times on the front nine, but never on the back. Iced water was available in coolers at various locations on the course, but there was not any drink cart service. Total time start to finish was 4 hours 30 minutes - kept pace with twosome ahead, and never felt pressed by group of 4 behind. An enjoyable layout that played a little tough with the wind. Recommended.

these greens will take some time to recover
the rest of the course is mostly pristine as usual

Played Sunday @ 10:00 and finished just before 2:00. Nice pace of play. Course in good condition and still improving from winter "No Rain". had a very enjoyable round.
