My wife and I played San Vicente today and had a great time . Pace of play was good even though the course was busy. We finished in a little under 4 hours with a brief break for food at the turn. The course is in very nice shape for this time of year. Many of the other courses in the area have dormant fairways but San Vicente is green and lush. The staff is pleasant and helpful. This course is a challenge to play with a fair amount of water and some tricky terrain. Discounts are available and make this a great deal.

12/28/13 -- 8:08 a.m. Tee time. Arrived early and our 4-some was sent out @ 7:25 (we had 2 twofer coupons for unlimited same day replay w/lunch, so the Pro Shop set us up for our follow-on tee time of 12:35. I'll add here that the entire staff here at San V are EXCEPTIONAL!!! They truly take pride in customer service and it shows. Course is located out in a very scenic remote area of Ramona, nestled in its rolling hills. Weather was chilly upon arrival with the sun warming us up around lunchtime. Wind kicked up just briefly mid-day. POP for first round was 4 hrs, and POP for 2nd 18 was about 4 1/2. There was a back up off the 10th tee (typical area of slowdown due to folks making their pit stops at the turn)...our 4-some was reduced to a twosome as our sons called it a day. Then, due to the slow down in pace, we ended up playing in with a 3some ahead of us at the 11th, which was nice and we still managed a great tempo of play and finished at 5pm (thought we were going to have to affix flashlights to our head for a minute) :) Today the practice putting greens were not representative of greens out on the course...practice greens were 'Fast' and greens out on the course in fair to good condition overall. Several showed signs of either animal munchies damage/disease/or from what one person mentioned...the course had hired another company to do aeration resulting in major damage to some. In particular the green on Hole 12...that was horrible. Coots/and other water fowl are in full swing on the courses this time of year, and along with them pooo everywhere/anywhere near the water; so be careful where you set your clubs down and step--Yuck! Tee boxes were in average condition, mostly level, divot marks which were for the most part addressed with fill. Bunkers weren't fluffy sand, but they were easy (on average) to hit out of...a couple were thin on hard pack/clay. Fairways were great for this time of year, again divots (typically repaired), with thin spots here and there. Rough was of moderate length/lush but thin in some areas as well. This course poses challenge for the long hitters with tight fairways and penalties for straying left or right. Course runs adjacent to homes, roads, and are lined with beautiful trees (protected Oaks), rocks, and OB ditches. Pro Shop has recently been renovated and is now open (Verry Nice), Snack Shop makes some AMAZING sandwiches. We never saw a Cart Girl allllll day. Carts are not equipped with GPS, but they are quick/comfy and easily handled our 2 rounds of golf with no slow down issues. Area for parking carts and pedestrian traffic around the Pro Shop/Snack bar areas can/does get quite congested. There are ball washing stations on every hole, and bins with refill divot mixture throughout the course as well. Bunkers were usually raked. Greens as mentioned earlier were fair overall...with several experiencing some bare/diseased? areas. Not a lot of unrepaired ball marks for the amount of people that pack this course every weekend. However, our 2nd round did see more ball marks needing repair than the morning's round. Green speeds rolled medium to fast, with occasional rolls true lined to the hole suddenly exiting stage right or left at the hole (frustrating...but hey that's the game of golf) :) Subtle undulations throughout. We truly do enjoy this course; its surrounding beauty; its pleasant staff; and the care folks that work here and play here obviously put into it to help keep it that way. A side-note on the practice facilities: Driving range is off the back end of the parking lot/down from and adjacent to the outdoor pool area. Mats, not grass, into a short range area which runs adjacent to the 9th fairway (as a result of its location you will run into range balls in the fairway from errant practice shots). Chipping area, Yes they have one, but I haven't used it (it's located down the hill, off behind the 1st tee box and 9th green). So warming up upon arrival -- make sure you have plenty of time to locate areas to get your practice on. :) Will continue to watch for good deals offered at this course. Truly Truly enjoy it. Just this novice golfin gals opinion. :)

Played this course today 11/10/13 (for the first time ever) using Underpar.com coupon (2 all day play w/cart and lunch for both for only $69 -- well worth it). Spoke with the pro shop day before and they indicated the course finished scheduled maintenance a couple weeks prior so was in great condition. Tee time was set for 10:16a.m., and we arrived an hour or so early to warm up; but was sent out early with another twosome (Lovely couple from Canada) (Guys played from the White tees/us ladies played from the Gold). Note: The pro shop is currently under refurb so they are operating out of the equivalent of a closet. There is a nice putting area in front of the clubhouse/snack bar area; and the chipping area is down the hill around corner to the left. We didn't find the driving range until we were finishing up the front nine. It's located at the far end of the resorts parking lot (hit off mats). You are allowed to take the carts out to the parking lot to get/drop off your clubs. NOTE: Carts are not equipped with GPs. Tee Boxes were in excellent condition (level/lush), as were the fairways. Fairways were beautiful grass (not kakuliah), and easy to hit off of. Obviously people cared enough to fix their divots and there were plenty of divot mix refill boxes (as well as water jugs) throughout the course. Bunkers (that I were in) were nicely maintained, easy to hit out of (to me), and again, golfers there obviously cared enough to rake up afterwards. Greens were rolling quite true; medium fast/fast throughout the day. Fairly large greens with slight undulations. Some greens showed either disease or animal damage, but they were being taken care of. I'd say a couple more weeks and all should be perfect. No cart girl/no marshals. The course was packed and once you got in the rhythm of things Pace of Play for this round wasn't bad at about 4 1/2 hours. Weather couldn't have been better. Sunny / mid temps / slight breeze. This course is a hidden gem for this area. Beautiful scenery from several holes. Houses can come into play on a few holes as well. Truly enjoyed the layout, back 9 I felt were a little more difficult, plenty of water hazards, drainage areas, fairly large/numerous bunkers, and mature oaks and several crossover bridges come into play on a couple holes. We really did enjoy this course and look forward to playing there again. Fabulous Folks, Fairways, and Fun Fun Fun -- just this golfin gals point of view. :)

Course Location - really out there!, quite a treck from southern OC
Facilities - lots of "Work in progress" here, driving range is sad at best, but if you are just stretching and loosening up it will work. Restrooms were very nice and the practice green was above average to me.
Course Condition - was CP only due to overseeding recently. Wish I known when booking tee time, but whatever....we aren't in such sad shape that we cant walk a bit more. Greens were spotty, they are dealing with some form of fungus but it really didn't damper things too much...putts rolled just fine. Bunkers were very nice, good sand, a little heavy in the morning but i was pretty pleased with the condition.

The miscellaneous aspects - what a fun course though, fair yet challenging. no cart service as most of the members there bring their own supplies. The staff and customers are all just so dang happy and friendly. Is there something in the Ramona water? We want to go back and drink some again!

They over seeded the fairway's so they were cart path only today. That should be over with in a couple of days. The fairways were very shaggy.
The greens were in terrible shape. They are about 85% back from punching. And worse is they are suffering from what they called 'Salt burn' ? Large dead and rough patches covering 20-40% of all the greens. So the greens were very bumpy, but at least they were a little faster then normal !
Hopefully everything will be cleared up a few weeks ?

Played 8/18 2 pm $32 POP 4 hrs. Summer has taken some nibbles at the course. Fairway's 95% green & lush with a few dried out/brown areas mixed in, but over all in good shape. Rough is mostly in good shape with a few dead/hard pan areas mixed in. Greens were a little rough. This course has always had slow greens, but they were extra slow today. Some had fairly bad ball marks and most putts warbled as they rolled. Still a fun course in fine to good shape.
Afternoons are my favorite time here, but you will forfeit some quality on the greens.
Drinks on the deck over looking the course are a great way to end the day.

Played again on 6/2 - 2 pm $41 P.O.P 4:15. Sand all gone from greens, but they have been keeping them very shaggy. They look fantastic and are soft, but they are slow and very bumpy.

Traps were a little crusty, but not too bad. They had very lightly sanded the greens. (It will be gone by now) and were very slow. I really like this course. Fairly open, but with some fun & challenging holes. My only complaint is how slow the greens usually are. That late in the afternoon they get very bumpy too.

Kudos on the maintenance crew for getting the greens back to health and in great shape after their fungus attack. #14 was badly damaged and now you can't tell there was anything wrong.

A great twilight course to play, but if you want the best conditions you need to get out early before the greens bump up.

Played in an Outing (surviving 3 rain showers) on Monday, 5/6. The fairways are in excellent condition. The greens were soft, smooth but slow. Greens got bumpy toward the end of the round because of the rain and foot traffic. Plenty of sand in the traps but it was firm because of the rain.
