Played a San Diego senior event on FRI at 8 AM. The course is in very good winter condition, one of the best conditioned course I've played this winter in the North County of SD. Greens: smooth, medium firm to firm, slow to medium speed. Fairway: best conditioned than most courses I've played this winter. Rough: freshly cut to 1-3" high. Traps: raked and plenty of sand. POP: just over 4 hours. Good customer service. Nice place to have lunch after your round. Worth the drive from Oceanside.

Even though this course is close, I have not played here in a while and was looking forward to playing. I was slightly disappointed. The course is in decent shape for this time of year, but not it's normal great.
Fairway's were 60/40 on green & dormant. But even the burnt areas played fine.
Greens were very good to great. For many years San V. has had SLOW greens. This day they were much quicker at a little above medium, receptive and rolled well.
Rough a mixed bag, T's decent & traps fine.
Overall in decent shape, especially when compared to many others for this time of year.
The pace.... uuhhgggg. Man it was slow. 2-4 groups on almost ever hole on the front. The back sped up a little, but the damage was done by that point. d%mn n Chargers !! People used to watch football on Sunday's ??? It's also 'Time share' season. Lots of visitors from our northern neighbor come here every year for the next couple of months.
They typically over seed in the winter and I hope they will continue that schedule sometime soon?

Had another great day at San Vicente. Just love this course more and more. Old style with awesome trees, elevation changes, doglegs, water, etc. Course has it all.

Had another great day at San Vicente. Just love this course more and more. Old style with awesome trees, elevation changes, doglegs, water, etc. Course has it all.

Condition overall was very playable, fairways are going dormant so they don't look perfect, but I always had great lies in all the fairways. Greens were pretty darn nice. Held most shots very well and putted smooth and were fairly fast. Downhillers could get away from you very easily. Teeboxes were level, had some divot damage but always found a good area to put the peg in the ground. Sand traps were a mixed bag, some were fluffy, some were pretty hard. They weren't aweful, just not as nice as usual. Rough was not super penal, but it did make you think and influenced your shots.

POP was very nice, quite a few people out there for a Sunday, but finished 18 in about 4.5 hrs. We played another nine in about 1.5 hrs. Underpar deal, 2some for $79 with lunch, great deal, great sandwiches and good customer service. Always highly recommend getting out to San Vicente, get one of those underpar deals and enjoy.

Played 9/14 in a great pace of 3 hours. We took advantage of a great stay/play package for 2. Teed off in the afternoon in great weather and had the course to ourselves. Course was in great shape. Tee boxes clean/level (no tee issues). Fairways clean and provided great lies all round. Sand traps (in one) and good playable sand. Rough was maybe 1/2 to 1" and provided plenty of difficulty (like it should). Greens were in very nice shape (a bit slow) but once you adapted they putted/chipped very well. Customer service excellent at all levels. Had a great dinner at the restaurant (lots of Monday night specials) on the deck overlooking the course. Had a great room with large deck overlooking the course. Really enjoyed this course/resort and look forward to going back again. Highly recommended.

Played here Sunday 8/9 at 10:40am. Got a deal on UnderPar for $79 for a twosome, which included GF, cart and "box lunch." Great weather, never had to wait, finished in 5 hours, mostly because the twosome we were paired up with were hacks haha. NBD, I could sense the 4some behind us getting a little impatient but we could only speed those two up so much.
Great course, especially for the price. For a Saturday AM, it's hard to find a nice full size for under $50, unless you play out in east county somewhere. A little bit of a drive to get there but for fairways in great shape, true greens and good tee boxes what else could you ask for? I highly recommend this course, with or without a coupon. Bring sunscreen, plenty of H2O and beer (no cart lady in sight) and you'll enjoy yourself.

Fairway's in very nice shape with a few brown areas starting to show, but really have none to minimal impact.
Greens were very nice and actually putted at a good pace compared to typical. Much faster then they have been in a long time. I'd give them a 'Medium' pace.
They had mowed the rough, so it was nothing and noticed they shaved the front slope to 7. Normally a slope of thick grass !
It appears most of the improvement work that has been going on is almost complete.
Over all course in good to very good condition.

Played Sunday 5/24/15 in a match play with Itslikeimsaying. Mark you are a great guy, truly a pleasure to play with. It's comforting to play with fellow GKer's who know the game, the rules, the etiquette, etc. and Mark is no exception. Just had a fantastic time. Used Underpar deal for $79 for 2 people with an awesome sandwich lunch included. Great Deal! Course is in great great shape. Fairways were nearly perfect/flawless, just lush. Greens as well were nearly perfect, rolled really well, very soft and receptive to iron shots. Rough was fairly brutal, thank god we didn't find it too often. Sometimes reminescent of Torrey rough when your ball lied down and around the green was like cabbage, keep it in the short stuff! Sand traps were wet from the current and constant drizzle in the morning, but still played ok, a little fluffy underneath, Mark had no problem, I on the other hand had some issues in the traps, called lift your head and skull the ball. Teeboxes were probably on the only thing lacking, only on a couple of holes were they bad. For the most part they were just fine as well. Very busy out there, but still POP was 4.25 hours, surprising.

Overall, get out there and enjoy, I don't get out there enough and every time I do, I say to myself "wow, what a killer course" Great match Mark, had a blast. I'm fortunate to pull that one out. BTW, Mark was down 4 after 9 holes, then he won 3 in a row, got it back to AS going into 17 and he finally missed a drive to open the door for my victory, I was very fortunate and thoroughly enjoyed our round. Met divotnjay here today for our GK Cup match. I ended up playing 36, thanks to an UnderPar deal Jay had that included a free replay and lunch.

Conditions were very good. The greens are very accepting of shots and running smooth and medium fast. One green (12th) seemed like a different type of grass or wasn't as mature as the others, and then the 15th green had some bare spots and damage around its perimeter. Otherwise greens were fantastic. Fairways are excellent, just a notch below immaculate. Rough is also very good, but I rated it a little lower because there were a few bare spots here and there. Some greenside rough is deep and nasty (in a good way). Bunkers were mostly good but the sand didn't seem to go very deep before it was hard underneath. Tee boxes were good and consistent except for the 11th, which was spongier than all the others. All in all, very nice conditions right now.

I've wanted to play this course for 20-something years and never got out there, and now I really regret not visiting sooner. This is a wonderful layout full of elevation changes, tree-lined fairways, water hazards, beautiful trees and scenery, wildlife (saw probably 15 wild turkeys on the course) and more. Right up my alley, design-wise. It's another great old Ted Robinson design before he decided mounded fairways, three-tiered greens and man-made waterfalls were more important than solid golf holes. In some places it was vaguely reminiscent of Industry Hills or even Ojai Valley, two of my all-time favorite courses. If you've never played it, I think it's well worth the drive, especially if they offer another UnderPar-type deal like we had today.

Aside from losing my match, the biggest bummer for me was that this beautiful course in fantastic condition was shrouded in cloud cover all day, which led to lackluster picture taking. Well worth the drive from Oceanside!

An interesting event is happening there, guess it's called turf modification. The rough is being eliminated in many areas. Mostly this is being done deeper in the rough. Drought resistant plants and chips are being installed. We played that it's a free drop if you enter this area, don't know if that is going to be the rule once all the work is completed. Probably going to see more of this as the drought continues.
