Played 5/30 with GK members jpeairs85 and Rat-Patrol. It's true that good company makes a less than desired score seem less hurtful and today was no different. Love the fact that Jim was able to join and it was a perfect day for golf. Played the Vineyard (old Meadow)/Canyon combo, and even though I was sad to miss the Ranch 9, it was nothing short of enjoyable today. On to the review:

Tee-boxes: A mixed bag of some level and perfect boxes and others were chewed up and not level. Jim and Jon said it best as you never really think about tee-boxes...unless they are terrible, thankfully only one tee box comes to mind that was awful but I am sure that was because the white and blue tees were often paired into the same space, doubling the abuse they took that day.

Fairways: Overall good. Lots of green everywhere, especially in the Canyon 9. I only had one bad lie and that was due to a divot but I really felt the fairways offered great lies throughout and the bare spots were kept to a minimum.

Rough: Depends on which hole you were playing but ranged from relatively easy to hit out of to downright nasty. As anyone who has played this course will tell you, there is enough natural rough/waste areas to keep you honest and the real penal aspect to the course is certainly the natural canyon terrain surrounding each hole.

Bunkers: Was only in three today and all were greenside bunkers, but they had enough sand to make sure the shot could be good. I did see more than a few where the sand was compact and others where it was more dirt than fluff but at least the ones I played had good sand in them. Rakes were ample as well.

Greens: Great condition (except for the ball marks on a few but that's on the golfer not the course). The roll on some was so quick yet for others it was much slower. It took me some time to get it down and the breaks on some of those greens are just unfair (Canyon 4 comes to mind as the absolute worst green on the property). Challenging!

ETC: Staff was very friendly and helpful (love seeing that everyone on staff had the same uniform therefore making it simple to find someone). Food/drink cart only came around once and it was pretty warm out there. Carts were ready and nice. Range and practice areas are nice as well. Pace was excellent for Memorial Day when I was expecting a 5 hour round. Great course for a $44 online rate.
