Played the Presido / Mission combo today. I used the birthday deal and only paid $19 with a drink, good deal. Both courses are in good to real good shape. Things were nice and green from tee to green. Sand was damp but hey it rain over the last day or two. Greens were in great shape. Most rolled very well and no signs of recent punching. I was actuall really surprised at how good the conditions were. Now would be a good time to play.

Played here 9/16 after work (supposedly a 4pm tee time but apparently it never went through and the clubhouse had to "fit us in" at 4:15). The delay made absolutely no difference as the place was crowded with traffic avoiders and off we went at $29! for the Mission/Friars combo. We were only able to finish 11 actual holes of golf but it felt like far less between bad conditions and waiting. The review: Tee-boxes: Actually decent throughout with plenty of area to tee it up. Turf consistency was mixed but it wasn't terribly challenging to find a good spot. Fairways: Beat to hell in many places, being replaced in others. Plenty of fairway was simply roped off and that fairway that wasn't was brown, bumpy and finding a great lie was tough. Rough: OK condition, though anyone who has played here knows there's lots of areas to miss that simply end up being the adjacent hole's fairway. The out of bound areas can certainly be penal (think San Diego river) but the thick stuff is in good enough shape to penalize you. Sand: Pathetically enough this is the first round (if you can call 11 holes a round) in which I haven't found the sand! It looked good and raked though. Greens: Good shape and the highlight of the round! Slow speeds and marks everywhere but putts ran true. Some green complexes had some minor damage and the green skirts were beat up but from ball to cup, not bad. ETC: Staff was just okay today; clubhouse was fine, bartender great, starter was lackluster and overwhelmed. Carts have tablet-like GPS but works well, windshields are nonexistent though. Far too much traffic here with 3 functioning 9-hole options to allow fivesomes and 3 hour rounds per 9 holes. Would not recommend right now.

Fairways have grass and are nice, Greens roll pretty true and have some pace to them, bunker sand varies depending on which one you are in... some are wet some are dry. Worth the money to play

Played an early morning round yesterday with Gregholla & Mpisarski0. Wee tee'd off at 652am finishing at 1052am for a 4 hour POP. We played the Presidio/Mission combo.
The course looks great with the greens being the highlight. Greens were in great shape and running fast, especially on downhill putts.
The tee boxes were in great shape with tee's entering the ground easy. It was very easy to find a nice patch of grass.
Fairways were cut short with some brown patches here and there.
Presidio had patches on holes #3 & 4.
The greens on #1 & 2 had some brown patches on the edges.
Mission had patches of brown on #2, 8 & 9.
No damage noticed to any of the green edges on Mission.
My complaint in July and now is no water available on the course in the form of faucets or Ambassadors.
We saw 2 Ambassadors neither had water.
We saw the cart person as we approached what for us was Hole 18. No outside drinks are permitted so you would think this would be something that would be a first thought especially on warm days like you will find in the summer.
I like this course especially at the Guru Rate. I will be back.

Got to play here this morning at 7AM with @mpisarski01 @loutheman. Was a little hike down there this morning as Matt and I left our house at 4:45 to be there by 6:15 to warm up a little.

Putting Green - Was spectacular, loved the challenging hole locations, really gave you the opportunity to hit multiple putts and get the speeds down.

Driving Range - Didn't get to utilize it this morning, but from the looks of it was well
maintained.

We went to the first Tee box and met up with Lou, great guy, first time playing with him. Can't wait to play with him again. Tee'd off at 7, weather was beautiful, couldn't ask for a better morning to play.

Tee Boxes - The tee boxes were great, plenty of room to tee off. I didn't find one uneven tee box all day.

Fairways - The fairways were awesome, grass was very responsive. Very generous landing area's, gives you a lot of options from the tee box. I didn't see a brown spot on either of the 9's we played.

Sand Traps - Boy, I had a rough day today, I think I hit it into at least 5-6 sand traps. The best part about it, they were wonderful to hit out of. Early in the morning they were still a little damp, but that's a given since it was pretty damp out this morning. Even though I hit it into the bunker a lot, I can't complain. I didn't have a problem all day hitting out of them, club goes right through the sand. I hit into fairway bunkers and green side bunkers and always got it out. I now call it SANDiego.

Greens - What a treat, they were phenomenal. Great rolls, little to no repair marks, you hit the surface and you're golden. The speed was medium/fast, the speed coming down the hill was pretty quick, wish I left myself some uphill putts. If you didn't hit the center of the cup, your ball was not going to rim in. Loved the greens (should of hit more GIR) :).

Rough - The rough was fair, not to thick, but the farther you got off the fairway the thicker it got. Didn't have a problem with the rough today, was manageable to get out off and still get some spin on the ball.

Overall - This course is great, I will for sure, be coming back and playing. We played the Mission/Presidio combo, and loved the layout of both 9's. Some great holes, over the water on a few and a couple great dogleg's. I'm sure Matt and I will come back down and play, if I lived closer, I would be a regular there. Can't wait for the next outing!

Had the pleasure of playing a Guru Tee time today with @loutheman and @gregholla. Quite a drive from orange county as greg and I left Orange county at 5am to make it to the course at 615. Check in was really easy the lady in the pro shop was very nice and bubbly for it being 615am.

The practice green here is very large and has every type of put imaginable which is quite nice. we did not utilize the driving range but from the cart staging area looked decent and the grass stalls looked to have just moved to allow ample room to tee up.

We went out right away with Lou meeting us on the first tee and off we went. The round started a little wet and overcast but by the 3rd hole the sun was shining and the course dew started to dry out.

Tee's- Tee boxes where moved to a new location this morning and we had brand new fresh grass to hit from and wide tee's to choose your attack angle.

Fairways- They are very generous and have a wide landing area to hit to. Very good coverage and on the Presidio 9 were immaculate The mission 9 was a little more brown but no bare spots all grass to hit from.

Greens- These were the highlight of the day and were in spectacular shape. Speed was running medium to fast later in the day. No ball marks and very smooth like glass. Holes were cut sharp and you needed to hit center cup as anything offline lipped if too firm. With greens this nice putting was simple except for human error.

Rough- The rough was not penalizing bu the further you go offline the worse the lye was going to be. I had a couple wayward drive's but got lucky with a good angle to the hole.

Sand- Although I did not land in the sand today my friend Gregholla found lots of it and is calling this city SAND iego now. The front nice the sand was a little wet and the back nine it looked to be dry and soft.

In all the Presidio/mission is the combo to play. Presidio running 3400 yards and the Mission running 3100 yards so a few short par 4's with doglegs and water on mission to mess with your head. In all I love this course and if I lived closer I would keep and eye out for deals. Plus im a 14 handicap and shot 84 the first time here and 78 today. Very happy and will return.

Used the GK Birthday deal out here this morning with a 6:45 tee time on Friars-Presidio. That's all that was available early this morning, because Mission was reserved for the nine holers today, or at least early. $19, smooth check-in, given a coupon for a free drink, and then the starter was extremely friendly and helpful. They were working on the practice putting green, so he suggested I go drive over to a green on the course that wasn't being used yet to roll some putts while waiting for my tee time. Very impressed with his service. He then came and got me and set me up with a threesome. POP was good, about 3:50 on course, and that's even with us being about a hole/hole and a half behind the group in front of us.

Conditions are a tale of two nines. Friars is not good, and maybe they should just throw in the towel and close it now, because it somewhat reflects poorly on them to have one nine with huge patches of dirt in (nearly?) every fairway. (Their GK rating will surely suffer until they close Friars or improve it.) I'd estimate 20% of the supposed "fairway" area on Friars is just raw dirt. Greens were good, though. Rough was spotty. Tee boxes decent. Bunkers ok. On Presidio, there were no issues with the dirt fairways, and the maintenance overall seemed a step above Friars. Greens good: smooth, medium/medium-fast and accepting of full shots.

Long story short, stick to Mission-Presidio and things are good.

Played a round here on 07/24/2016. The staff was very courteous and accomodating. Our round started off smoothly as there were not issues with the delays at the start. Pace of play was not bad and everyone was pretty respectful.

The tee boxes were in great shape and no real issues. The greens were a little wet at 8am but that was to be expected and shots stuck a little more than expected. They dried out as the day went on. The fairways were in okay condition. There were blad areas of grass in the middle and some random patches of crabgrass or something thick and impossible to hit on.

Overall the course was well maintained and I would play here again.

Played Friday July 22 with 3 other Guru's, Mike, Andy as well as JohnnyK. The course was looking great, whomever is rating this course at 3's and 4's should get back out there.

Played Friday July 22 with 3 other Guru's, Mike, Andy as well as JohnnyK. The course was looking great, whomever is rating this course at 3's and 4's should get back out there.
I would say the course is in great shape, the fairways were green and smooth with a patch of dry grass on maybe a couple of holes.
The greens were medium fast and true.
Bunkers were nice and fluffly.
It was a very warm/hot day so it was a surprise not to see the snack/drink cart til we reached the last 3 holes.
I personally enjoyed watching 5 hdcp. players kill the course while they patiently had to watch a 23 hdcp playing to a 30 on this day without one single grumble.
I was truly embarassed with my play not wanting to disrupt their rhythm or pace of play however they all just kept on encouraging me to relax as well as "atta boying" the few good shots I did make.
It turned out being a great outing with 3 of the best GK ambassadors on a truly fine course.
