Played Sunday December 12th with a friend who is a Carlsbad resident for $55. The staff was friendly and the starter showed me how to use the GPS system on the cart. I have to say that it is the best GPS system I have ever used. It showed the distance to the pin, front and rear of the green, the location of the pin, distances to the sand traps and other natural hazzards. Also showed the location of the other cart in the group, as well as the group in front.

Do to the hilly nature of the layout, especially between holes, the carts can run out of power, especially on the climb to hole 16. However, the Marshalls will respond to your GPS request for a replacement cart. One Marshall came by on hole 14 and swapped out cart #60 and told us they were watching this cart because it often ran low on battery power. The Marshall stated they were waiting to receive new carts which should help solve the problem.

This is a course where local knowledge is a must. Several holes are blind from the tee box, especially number 3. Greens are multi-tiered, in fact several were brutal, especially the double back of hole number 12.

Great views, but I agree with other reviewers that several were forced into an odd loop of holes. Beware, if you are not under an 18 handicap you are sure to loose many balls as the environmental areas (it seems on all holes) is played as a lateral hazzard with an automatic lost ball. While we seldom had to wait for the group in front of us the layout leads to 5 hour rounds.

I will return to try to better my score, but only with a $55 or less green fee.

What is scary about this course is that airplanes take-off path is right above the course. So you will be swinging...and there goes a plane. Also...there are powerlines throughout this course. All which distracts from play.

What is especially weird are the tiered greens with huge spines (think windmills) which take away from skill and brings in luck. Yes...I agree that the skill is in executing on the approach shot below the hole...but luck still abounds because the number of spines and rolling breaks.

This wasn't too bad because the pins were all located were the punching had not been done. The other draw back is a couple of the par 5's were very tight and some had blind shots. The layout wasn't too bad as others claimed their were some long drives in between holes but driving them wasnt bad. The course is set up and looks like a an expensive course but shouldnt be more than $60. The real disapointment to the course were the 9th and 18th holes. for as much as the course spent on the clubhouse, couldn't they have designed better finishing holes. That was the only thing that made the course disapointing.

This was my first time playing the Crossings. I thought the course was fun--there are some great elevation changes, some forced carries, and some good risk/reward holes. The greens were slow. The fairways were in good shape. The rough was, in many spots, full of weeds. The pace of play was good. The GPS was nice since there are very few (if any) yardage markings on the course.

OMG! This new course kicks your butt! Very challenging for all skill levels. Accuracy and club placement is key. Anything off center will go into an ecological preserve where it is illegal to retrieve your ball. Expect to lose a couple of sleeves on this course. The course is built into the canyons in Carlsbad near the Palomar Airport, so there are some distractions with planes taking off directly overhead. The driving range is good. Staff is very helpful and accomodating. The carts has an excellent GPS system. DO not expect to walk this course. The drive from hole 11 to 12 will take 10 minutes in the cart alone. This course is worth the money to play and the drive to the course.

Played 5/16 & 17 for golf getaway...in a casual tourney atmosphere. Our small group was treated like royalty; exceptional staff. Course has young & tricked out greens, so respect them. LOTS of elevation changes; no way to walk this course. Overall a challenging track in great condition now. Enjoy!

Ok, do yourself a favor and read this. I took the plunge about 2 months ago and to give you a brief glimpse into what is to follow I will never be going back.

On the way up the place looks somewhat nice, nice pro-shop parking lot etc. The "niceness" ends there. The lady in the pro shop was somewhat rude and while we were making our way down to the range the nightmare kicked off.

The Range: Sucks. You cannot hit more than probably a 3,4 iron. It is all mats and there are so many people out there good luck getting a spot.

The Practice Green: Is ok. Large in size gives you an idea that the greens will be kinda slow.

The Course: Here's where the rubber meets the road. Keep in mind your paying nearly 100 dollars to play a course that took the city of carlsbad like 10 years and several millions of dollars to finish.
The course is dead. Dead. Dead. The grass is horrible. You can hit drives that roll an easy 50-60 yards because it is so hard. Good luck hitting down on the ball from fairways that are harder than tile. I guess I am ok with that and perhaps it is just the way I experienced it but lets get down to the things that will not change with just some water.

The layout: Frankly it just makes no sense. The course does not seem to flow at all the front 9 is just back and forth very simple design and the back nine is hillarious. Have fun driving over that stupid bridge that sounds like complete hell when you drive over it. You have to drive all the way over to the otherside of hell for one hole that is very mundane. There is a par 3 that the green is like a miniture golf course with HUGE levels on it.

PS: It is a 5 hour round.

Pleasant take aways: The last few holes on the back nine are not bad. The last par 5 is a decent hole. You can see into the Callaway testing center which makes you wish you were just there hitting balls. Even if the course was plus the layout is the worst part. I was constantly asking myself what the hell the designer was thinking.
