JC GOLF.... I don't know what JC is doing but they are really screwing up the courses I like to play. For some reason, they are punching four greens at a time and only half the green. This drags out the process for months in what would normally be about a 3 week period. I guess this way they don't have to tell anyone they are punching the greens or doing any work on the course to maximize their revenue. This is going on at the Crossings and Encinitas Ranch and Twin Oaks. Whoever started this experiment needs to stop and just do the course and close for 2 days like everyone else does. The fairways and tees were so wet they were almost unplayable. There was not a dry spot on some of the tee boxes with casual water so bad we were sinking into the ground.
Greens were OK, with 4 or 5 sanded and punched and a few were great and whatever someone did to the first green, but there is a giant dead line across the entire first green and of course, the flag was just above it, so anything short of the flag, you had to putt through it.
Fairways were mixed bag with some being punched and so wet they were hard to play from and some ok.
I was not in a bunker but most were very wet and a few had standing water.
I am going to not play any JC courses for at least 3 months or until they finish the fall maintenance, that now takes 3 months to do, instead of 3 weeks.

Wow, unbelievable that they are doing this and my guess is, it is all revenue driven.

Played on Saturday morning and pace was good, no waiting and finished in under 4:30, which is great for the crossings. Greens great and rolled smoothly. Fairways lush and rough was exactly that, rough. Balls settled to the bottom all day and it was very thick. 2nd shots and chips were challenging and needed your full attention. Tee boxes nice and sand was good all day.
Course is in great shape and is a fun challenge right now, especially with the rough up like it is right now. Good to play in the morning because the greens get pretty beat up throughout the day because they are fairly soft. Putting can be a tough in the afternoon.

Played Thursday AM on 8/13. Very strict rules on arrival, no earlier than 30 minutes before your T time. Very friendly/helpful Staff at arrival, at the first tee and in the Pro shop.

Played Thursday AM on 8/13. Very strict rules on arrival, no earlier than 30 minutes before your T time. Very friendly/helpful Staff at arrival, at the first tee and in the Pro shop.

Greens: smooth, medium speed. A few too many ball marks not repaired.

Fairways: very good condition.

Rough: 1-3" high.

Traps: no rakes so we played preferred lies.

POP: just over 4 hours.

Great deal if you have the JC card. Recommend.

Played The Crossings at Carlsbad on a cool Sunday afternoon with all the Covid restrictions in place. I played with a couple from Temecula and they were very nice. The tee boxes were better than average with most divots filled in and having said that sand was available on the carts and by the looks of things divots were filled in on the fairways as well. The fairways were green and firm and wide so if you found them, it was very playable. I haven’t been there in a while and I forgot how hilly it was and the few forced carries there are. The lady I played with said she plays there regularly and if a ball were to go in a bunker one could take it out due to local rules. There were no rakes, but it did look like someone was maintaining them and you could see shoe/foot rakes from previous people trying to rake the footprints. I was only in 2 green side bunkers and I played out of them because they looked playable to me. Greens were on the medium speed side, and the guy in my group went out of his way to fix what ball marks he could find. In closing, the course was in very good shape, very green and I had a very good time and look to return soon. Definitely recommended..

They are very strict on the social distancing rules. DO NOT arrive earlier than 30 minutes before your T time. You must leave your clubs are the bag drop, pay your fee in the Pro Shop then walk around the building to pick up your clubs and carry them around the left side of the building (from the bag drop) to the starter who will assign you a cart. You can get a cart by yourself if you request one. Very friendly starter crew.

Greens: smooth, firm and medium speed.

Fairways: excellent condition.

Rough: mowed to 1-3", minimum bare spots.

Traps: mixed conditions, some good sand, raked and other hard pan, no rakes.

POP: just over 4 1/2 hours.

No marshals or beverage cart service. Restaurant is open inside, snack bar also open.

Played on Thursday the 21st and the course is in great shape. The only issue all day was the Temp green on 7 is still in play during the week and it sucks. The overall shape of the course is fantastic and we were able to play in 3 1/2 hours with individual carts and spacing of the tee times. Course felt like it was our own Country Club. I wish they spaced the tee times out like this all the time. Fairways and greens were great and sand in the bunkers was great. Rough is up but I think that is true with everywhere right now.

Great time to play this place.

5/13 8 am using their cyber Monday voucher $90 2some which was extended past the expiration date with out any issues--thank you for the golfer friendly service. Initial check in at the gate with temp screening and masks required in all common areas and then taking bags to drop area. No one allowed to proceed until 30 min before tee time. Check in smooth with distancing in place then carrying bags down to cart. Good implementation of Covid guidelines.
Joined by Dan and Don a couple of younger boomers with good all around games. POP 415 never having to wait but being pushed a bit from behind so split into 2 somes when the boys stopped for food and then joined back up on 15 when we caught up.
Fairways are quite good with thick healthy turf cut down for extra roll and still great cushion. Rough thick but cut down effective at impeding forward roll but mostly kept the ball up so was playable. The rolling nature of the design does not provide many level lies so there are issues as to stance. Tees lush and level. Bunkers groomed but with some watering some were compacted but overall quite playable.
Greens are large contoured with some having 3-4 feet of drop and often a ridge area that bisects the green meaning missing to the wrong side was especially punitive. Greens are really healthy recently verticut so not perfectly smooth. Rolling at medium/medium fast speed and receptive to well struck shots.
Very scenic varied lay out making for an enjoyable golf outing.

Greens were in great shape, held shots and putted medium to fast. Fairways were fast and in great shape and the rough did its job. Traps were nice and had plenty of sand.

Great time and worth the fee.

Scheduled 6:45am tee time, but we were able get out first before the 6:45am time, so thanks so the starter for working with us. Back nine start, which was too bad, because it's much colder on the lower elevation back side. In fact we were advised to keep carts on the path until #14 due to some light frost. (low 40's I would guess) but by the time we made it to the front side, it had warmed up nicely. Staff was great, in fact perfect, the way customer service should be.

Greens were decent, although too slow for my taste. Most of the fairways were OK, with a few areas needing attention. Tee boxes were flat and overall fairly good. Not in any bunkers, but they appeared OK.

The only complaint I have it that #7 is still under construction, resulting in a shortened hole with a temporary green. This is one of the more fun holes to play, so very disappointed not being able to actually play the hole. It didn't appear they would be finishing any time soon, so I might hold off returning for a while until this is resolved
