Greens were very bumpy today. Lots of online putts change direction all of a sudden. Lots of old unrepaired ball marks leave mini divots on the greens. Bunkers were very fluffy today, which is nice. Fairways were on and off. Ground is a bit moist, and easy to take very large divots, likewise in the rough. Tee boxes were ok, although many divots are sometimes can find a hard time to have a good footing. A nice short course, but by no means a pushover, and there is lots of trouble in typical landing areas. Probably shouldn't use driver off the tee most places, but where is the fun in that?

Fun short course. Greens roll nice and typically had slightly more break than I predicted. Rough is in good shape overall and easy to hit out of. Bunkers looked decent, although did not use them. Tee boxes didn't seem to be a problem either, decent. The fairways though were hit or miss. Some were green and lush all the way, others had areas of little dirt patches of a few feet wide.
While it's in a nice area and for the most part in good condition, it may be a bit overpriced for what it is, an par 70 course about 5500 yards or so from the blues. To ride is a bit over 50 and to walk is near 40.

Overall the course is in good shape. But there are too many areas in the fairway and rough where you have nice grass and than all of a sudden you see bad areas with NO grass. There are many humps, bunkers, and irregular shaped greens to give you more of a challenge. This is needed because the course is very short. However, at only 5826 yards and easy to maintain, the course is way over priced. ($39 to walk on weekday) The fee should be $25 to walk in my opinion. Sad to say I will not be back.

The greens were smooth but a tad bit slow. The fairways were in great condition, there were a few wet spots but nothing to big. Tee boxes were good, some of the par3's had divot damage but nothing that couldnt be fixed.

On the day we played, the wind was blowing pretty good. It makes for some difficult course conditions. Par fours into the wind become increasingly harder, especially when there is water in front.
The surrounding trees don't help when the wind is blowing as well. They just tell you which direction the wind is going (sometimes) - the people are nice in the pro shop as well as e starters. It has been a great experience playing this course.

Played on Monday as well with the boys. Course was in great shape as mentioned by Johnny and Longball. Funny thing was the only negative was exactly what Johnny said about the 10th fairway. I think the Creature from the Black Lagoon lives there. It always seems to be swampy. I think that it has something to do with the water tank near the t-box. Anyways, staff is always extra kind at this course. Was windy that day, which it can be out in the Oxnard area. If that bothers you, check the weather conditions prior.

I felt Buenaventura was in great shape Monday. With exception to the 10th fairway (so if you play the back nine first don’t freak out), the fairways were lush throughout the course. The greens were lush too although on the slow side and a bit bumpy in places. A tight cut and roll would quickly solve the slow/bit bumpy surface creating exceptional putting conditions. My guess is the greens will remain this way until the Ventura County Championship in late June. Fine by me, you just need to adjust to the speed and then dial them in. Tell you what, play this course on the 4th of July weekend and I bet it will be incredible with lush turf and slick greens. The bunkers were in very good condition with good well maintained sand. The Tee boxes are decent, level and looked like considerable effort was being made to repair divot damage. Not too much damage although all things considered. Buenaventura is a short tight course so there in a good amount of iron play from the tee. The rough is currently kept low and lush but beware, there is a lot of kikuya out there and once they start growing it up for the championship this course will have some extra teeth. There are many small undulating greens and tight pin placements which demand a strong short game.

Considering it was Marvelous Monday (TW rate all day every Monday – which I understand will continue to be in effect through June) the course had a lot of play. But despite that, we got through in 4 hours 15 minutes. I highly recommend playing Buenaventra Golf Course.

Played at 12 noon today 5/9 with JohnnyGK, Robstretch and BigSwede. Fairways were in very nice condition and were lush for Buena. Tees also lush and in good shape with only minor divot damage. Sand in great shape raked and fluffy. Greens super healthy looking but were slow with a lot of poa to them. Funny thing was the first 14 greens were slow but number 15 green was rock hard. Rough was cut down some for this course. Wind was a steady 20mph wind the whole day. Pace of play was around 4 hours 30 minutes today. They have a Monday special for 20 bucks at any time and we saw a ton of golfers out for a Monday. Staff inside the pro-shop friendly. I was impressed with the course conditions other than the greens being a tad slow for my taste.

Played there yesterday after not having played golf in almost a year. Wish they would have a driving range to warm up, but that's my own fault for not playuing in so long. Staff is very nice. Price was great with the Monday special. Course was in decent shape. Fairways have been better. No standing water after all the rains. Greens were a little grainy. I think this course will be in much better shape in Spring. Winds started howling on the back 9. Got kind of chilly, but it at least blew away some of that lovely dirty diaper smell you get when playing this course.

Played this morning 2/28 just after 11am with Bigswede and Robstretch. Have not been out here in quite some time. Course is in average to just above average shape. Fairways were thin in spots, lush in other spots and usually had enough grass coverage. Rough bordering the fairways was anywhere between 1-2 inches thick and had some nice grab to it. Greens in my mind had to much grain to them and for this golfer but they held irons nice with spin. Tee boxes for the most part had lush grass. Sand was in good shape even with the hard rains a couple nights before.

One disadvantage to Buena is that there is no driving range. They have a good deal on Monday's where you can walk anytime for $20.00. This is a course to play every once in a while as it will test your flop shot and short game with some undulating greens as well as strategic sand traps.

Staff was very friendly today in the pro-shop.
