Played 10-12-15 late morning with GDR23 and Nickesquire for $17.99 including cart on a teeoff deal. Very brutal pace of play here for a course that is under 6000 yards, took us 4 hours and 45 minutes waiting on every shot. tee boxes were in good shape . mostly level and semi-lush. Fairways are the best I have ever seen them here, close to perfect lies and hardly a blemish anywhere. Rough was in good shape for the most part, nice around greens and a couple of yards off fairways but getting pretty thin the farther you got away . Found a couple of sand traps that had very nice sand. Greens were rolling smooth with an occasional bump (mostly from foot traffic) with medium/fast speed and holding shots like darts. This is probably the best shape I have ever seen this course in.

Played the Blacks (5826/68.3/117) in 4H, 40M with GDR23 & RGM2525 on a Teeoff.com special for $17.99. Partly cloudy, around 90 and humid, little breeze today. The course was very crowded mid day, we waited on almost every shot the entire round. Easy course to walk, shorter, few hills, no long walks between tee boxes. The tees were in good shape overall. Several had been recently resodded and almost all the divot damage was already properly maintained. The fairways were very good overall, lush, nice lies. Gary & I are in agreement that they are as good as either of us have ever seen them here. The kikuyu rough is not long but is long enough to grab your club on both full shots or chips. Lusher closer to the fairways/greens, thinner the more off the fairway you are. The traps have thick sand and were decently maintained. The greens putted decent, occasionally bumpy & medium speed. They held approach shots very well. Fun, shorter course that is tougher than the scorecard would indicate because of trees, tightness and usually, the wind here. Courteous and efficient check-in, the customer service was excellent as usual. No range, they only have a couple of cages to warm up in. No GPS on the basic carts but the sprinklers are well marked. Nice snack stand with good burgers and the drinks are good AD, so we had one before we teed off, at the turn and after the round on a very hot day. Nice conditions, and for $18 with a cart, hard to beat. Definitely recommended.

Out for a very enjoyable late morning round 10/12/2015 walking the black tees teeing off around 11:45am on a teeoff.com special for $17.99 with RGM2525 and Nickesquire. POP was brutal today for a Monday at 4 hours 45 minutes behind numerous groups. Weather was 90 degrees in Ventura and very humid with little to no wind. The fairways are in great shape 8.5/10--perfect lush ground ball sitting up for the most part--best I have seen these fairways. The greens I thought were in good shape 7/10--rolling just above medium speed, soft on iron approaches with little to no ballmarks or divots. Was not in any sand bunkers but they looked to be in perfect shape with very soft white beach marble sand. The tees were semi-lush kikuyu tees that were semi-level 6.5/10. The rough is lush kikuyu 2-3 inches in spots around the greens and fairways. Layout is 6000 yds with some tree line holes to keep you honest---some short holes on the front that you can score on and some tougher holes on the back. Overall for the $ we paid today it was well worth it-Recommended.

Played the Blacks (5826/68.3/117) in around 3 hours as a single on a Teeoff.com special for $20. Sunny, low 70's, mild breeze, perfect golf weather. The course was crowded mid day, but was wide open twilight for the first few holes until I caught a 3 some on the back. The front 9 took barely an hour, the back 9 almost 2. The tees were lush overall, some of the best tees I have played on recently. Almost all the divot damage was already properly maintained. Both the fairways and the rough had a few brown spots here & there, but were good overall. Usually lush, occasionally thin, I had no issues with a lie AD. The traps have very thick sand and were decently maintained. Tough to really blast the ball out of the lies I had, none were full blown fried eggs, but all were sitting down in the sand. The greens putted decently, smooth & medium speed. They putted slower than they looked, I left numerous putts online and short today. Courteous and efficient check-in, the customer service was excellent as usual. No range, they only have a couple of cages to warm up in. No GPS on the basic carts but the sprinklers are well marked. Fun, shorter course that is tougher than the scorecard would indicate because of trees, tightness and usually, the wind here. Nice conditions, and for $20 with a cart, hard to beat, especially with the ocean breeze keeping things cooler than most other local golfing options.

Played Saturday August 1st Tee Time 9:34 Black Tees Golf Club Tournament I'm A Very Harsh Critic And Is Very Hard To Please So Keep In Mind While Reading This Review. Played In A Tournament And Was Blown Away For The Most Part Staff: Outstanding Staff I'm The Tournament Director For My Club. Starting With Anna The Course Tournament Director To The Pro Shop Staff And Finally The Cart Girl And Cart Guy Everyone Was Awesome At There Jobs Super Nice. It Makes You Want To Come Back Year After Year. Prices Are Well Worth It For The Conditions Of The Course. Tee Boxes: Very Lush And Great Coverage Only Problem I Had That Day Was Very Hard To Find A Level Lie Other Than That They Were In Great Condition. Fairways: For The Exception Of A Couple Bare Spots Here And There They Were Super Lush And A Pleasure To Hit From. With The Drought They Use Recycled Water And It Shows All Golf Courses Should Be Doing This. Rough: Same As Fairways Few Bare Spots But Very Lush And You Would get Penalized For Going In Them Which Is Suppose To Be The Case Hard To Get Clean Contact In There Rough. Bunkers: Good Sand For The Most Part Very Soft Which I Love. Problem Was Some Bunkers Weren't As Good As Others And That's My Complaint Greens: Outstanding Condition Very Soft And Held Shots Very Well No Real Problem With The Greens. If You Don't Mind Driving To Ventura This Is A Must Play Very Highly Recommended

Played the Blacks (5826/68.3/117) in less than 2.5 hours as a single. Sunny, low 70's, the course was not very crowded mid morning. Played the holes out of order to get around 2 different groups and came back later, so POP was excellent, did not wait. Earlier in the day the breeze is usually minimal in Ventura, and today did not disappoint. While the weather conditions can be quite different from one afternoon to the next morning near the coast, the actual course conditions were almost identical. The tees were generally lush, most of the divot damage was already properly maintained. Both the fairways and the rough were usually lush, occasionally thin. Some brown spots here & there, but good overall. The traps have nice, soft sand and were decently maintained. The greens putted very nice, smooth & medium speed. I had a very good putting round that could have been exceptional "but for" 4 missed putts of over 10' that caught a good portion of the hole. Fun course that is tougher than the scorecard would indicate because of trees, tightness and usually, the wind here. Mornings are usually calm, afternoons are usually a 1-2 club wind. No GPS on the basic carts, sprinklers fairly well marked. Courteous and efficient check-in, the customer service was excellent as usual.

Played the Blacks (5826/68.3/117) in 2.5 hours as a 2some on a Tee Off.com deal for $16.99 after a $5 off coupon. We did not wait a shot AD on a sunny, breezy afternoon in the low 70's, the course was not crowded mid afternoon. I did notice many more people on the front 9 when we were on the back 9, probably taking advantage of super twilight rates after work? The tees were good, not alot of divot damage that was unfixed. Both the fairways and the rough were usually lush, occasionally thin. Some brown spots here & there, but good overall. The traps have nice, soft sand and were adequately maintained. The greens putted medium speed but were SMOOTH. You got it on the right line and it went in, maybe the smoothest I have ever seen the greens here. The customer service was excellent, had me checked in and ready to go in maybe 3 minutes. Only 1 restroom and a couple of water stations on the course, but they have an excellent grill that I have utilized numerous times. I always enjoy Buenaventura, easily my favorite course under 6000 yards. Well worth the drive up to Ventura IMHO.

Very soft on approach. Some great pin locations today on this shorter course that has some undulating greens. Fairways are very lush and in good shape with very little problem areas at all. Rough was cut down lush and in good shape. Bunkers contain real soft beach sand that you really have to thump. Tees to me were the only real disappointment. Many tees here are un-level and you have to hunt for a level stance. Like coming here every once in a while. Got some nice treeline holes which make driver important. Have some nice holes like #4,#6 and #18 where you have to work fades. Great course to work on your tween chips and shorter iron and wedge shots---recommended right now condition wise.

Played Sunday 7/26. Course is in great overall condition, fairways have full lush coverage and have a nice cushion to them. Pleasure to hit from. The rough is down with some hard pan lies, the only challenge in hitting off line is navigating the trees otherwise recovery is fairly easy here. Greens are rolling true with consistent speed. Tee boxes are level and bunkers have nice fluffy sand. Hard to find anything negative about this course. The layout is fun with a variety of holes presenting a wide array of challenge. Pace was good at about 4 hours, customer service was fantastic and green fees are reasonable. In comparison to its sister course, Olivas Links having played there recently as well. both courses are in great condition but I feel the fairway's are better here as they play a little softer.
