Played Monday morning, 6/19/06, on a clear sunny day with light morning breezes that increased as the day continued. I’d heard a lot about this course and wasn’t disappointed – holes sprawled across rolling CA foothills with no surrounding development, visually attractive course in great condition. Greens and fairways were in great shape – greens were receptive and rolled well. A ‘throwback’ type course in that there is no yardage book, no GPS, so you must play the course a few times or go around with a veteran to know where to hit the ball, such as how far needed to carry a trap off the tee, etc. Several holes have big oak trees in the middle of the fairway – attractive, but on those doglegs, which side am I supposed to hit to? Just had to guess (not always correctly). Once out on the hole, sprinklers were marked and there are 150 yard posts, and the greens are depicted on the scorecard. However, I went out as a single behind a tournament group, so I was guessing on where to hit it on many holes, and play was VERY slow. No cart girl on this Monday – don’t know if they even have one. With wind picking up as the day went on, the last four holes, playing directly into the prevailing wind, can be very difficult. More room for error off the tee on the front side. Highly recommended – just come prepared for the conditions described.
