Played today with fellow GKer, DKnight. Got a discount time on Teeoff.com, paying about $34/player at 11:32. We were sent off about 10 minutes early, but only to hit and wait behind a course full of golfers. Cold and damp conditions throughout. The greens were soft and on the slow side; also, they were kind of bumpy at times. There were a lot of poorly repaired ball marks and footprints almost everywhere. Almost no run out on most drives. Balls hit short of greens did not run up, sometimes just plugging into the wet turf. Good coverage of grass most everywhere. The deep rough has been whacked down for the most part, except for a couple areas, so wayward shots were findable/playable. Tee boxes were mostly level and had good coverage. We played the white tees and several were moved forward quite a bit, notably holes 13 and 17, which were like playing the forward tees. Bunker sand was plentiful and well groomed. Overall, I think the course probably plays better in the summer.

Walked the blues with my buddy Mack yesterday 12/17/16 on a cold high 50's tee off start a little earlier than our scheduled 12:03pm tee time. We paid $36.00 which is their standard twilight time which starts at 12pm. The course was pretty empty considering the colder weather and a nice brisk maybe 10mph breeze at times. Our POP was only 3 hours 25 minutes walking waiting a little on the back nine.

The greens are in very good shape. Soft on high irons and shots with spin while running firm on all other shots. Putting semi-decently with fairly pure surfaces. Not to many ballmarks today but could see evidence of some softer footprints on some common pin placement areas. Overall would rate the greens a 8/10.

The fairways have pretty much gone dormant brown and even with the colder air produced some roll out and long drives. You still get a decent lie at present time on the fairways. These fairways always start to perk up and get better in the spring. Overall rating on the fairways 6/10.

Most tees were lush, fairly level and in good shape. Some tees could use some more sand mix on the par 3's. Overall rating the tees 7/10.

Was in one greenside bunker on #18 that was firmer than normal due to the overnight rains the day(s) prior.

The greenside rough and the rough lining the fairways was lush in spots up to 2 inches and depending on where you were could be more thin or more lush than usual.

Great staff, great practice areas, great back nine and great prices--especially if you can snag a online time. This is my buddy Mack's home course--we had a great time!

Played 11-29-16 early morning on a Teeoff deal for $21 including cart. Joined three other singles and played in about 3 1/2 hours with a little bit of waiting on the front side. Tee boxes were in good shape, mostly level, semi-lush and cut tight. Fairways are starting to turn a little dormant but still offer good lies but a little thin. Rough was in good shape 2-3 inches and lush. Was in one bunker that had a good layer of nice soft sand. Greens were in very nice shape, best I have seen them in a while. They were a little soft but rolling smooth and fast with very few divot marks. Always a fun course to play with great costumer service.

Out for an annual black Friday golf round at Olivas this afternoon 11/25/16. There were 5 of us golfers(Rtucker, his son, Pedro7170, myself and Barkydog1) so we had to split tee times and I rode the blue tees on an EZlink special with a $10.00 off November promo code for $18.99. Very nice starter got my buddy Matt(Barkydog1) and I off 30 minutes early just after 12 noon and we finished 18 holes just before dark with a very slow POP of 5 hours which is to be expected on one of if not the busiest golf days of the year. We had a 7-10 mph wind this afternoon that died somewhat on the back nine as the sun went down. I know I always say this but Olivas has some of the nicest pro-shop staff around. Michelle went out of her way as the only one at the counter at check-in with the phones ringing, a long wait in the shop and people complaining to greet us with a smile and exhibit great customer service. Their practice facility is awesome as well. I was impressed with the greens. Have not played here for 2 months. They were quicker than usual--with not as many ballmarks present and in good shape. Very soft on iron approaches. Not perfect shape but well above average. Rated 7.5/10. The fairways were not as lush today as they were 2-3 months ago but are still in great shape for a muni in almost December. Mostly semi-lush conditions with a few hardpan areas here and there--never a bad lie--lots of roll on drives. Rated 8/10. The bunkers were all raked and in good shape. Was in 2 fairway bunkers today that were a pleasure to hit from. Rated 8/10 The rough around the fairways was lush 2 inches, green and in really nice shape. Rated 8/10. The tees were lush, some were un-level and some had some par 3 divot damage. Overall they were in good shape. Rated 7/10 Most of the mowed down huge aprons were softer and in very good shape. Recommended.

Hello GKS members. On Saturday, I had the opportunity to go out and played the Olivas Golf Course in Ventura. Our tee time was at 2:27 PM and finished at 6:00 PM. The Golf Course is in great shape. The fairs ways were just perfect, very smooth and green. The Tees were very level and smooth, the greens were just PGA. The ball was rolling beautiful. Olivas Customer Services are always great and friendly. I paid 27 dollars riding and I really enjoyed my round of golf. I didn't had to wait any of the holes, which give me time to finish the 18 holes. I rate this course 8. If you have not play Olivas lately you have to come out. The Golf Course it's in great shape. Remember to get out and let the ball roll right into the hole.

Played Friday with a buddy, teeing off at 11:40 a.m. using GN Hot Deal at $42.50 each including their fee. POP was about 4.5 hours. The course was in good shape, especially the tees and fairways. The greens were a little slower than I would have liked and they also appeared a little beat down with ball marks, foot prints, and some recent partial aeration. Nothing too serious, but I have seen it better. My buddy liked the course (it was his first time there). Very little wind during our round, so that was a plus.

Olivas Links was course #1 that my buddies told me to play out here when I moved to Oxnard 3 months ago. Olivas is a fantastic course. The layout of the course is not ridiculously hard, but what makes the course hard is the wind. Obviously when you throw the links style course in a name you expect windy conditions. I personally don't get too bothered by the wind, which makes this course my second favorite course here in Oxnard/Ventura.

The tee boxes are as lush and level as they get

Greens.. well they get a lot of play, so ball mark damage is there. You can tell that the course maintenance tries very hard to get the greens fixed. They do keep the greens at around a 10ish, they roll pretty true

Their rack rate is a little expensive, but if you walk it's cheap. It's definetly and easy walkable course. It's always windy so expect wind going there.

Played last Sunday, using some discount website, Teeoff.com, I think. Paid $27.50 plus $1.99 booking fee for a 1:40 tee time which included a cart. I was joined by a threesome of guys who had the same deal. We were directly behind a junior tournament. The greens were super soft and there was a lot of small footprints around every pin. I was also fixing a lot of ball marks. It was lush from tee to green. Not a lot of roll on the fairways. The rough was mowed to a consistent height and hitting out of it was easy. Plenty of sand in the bunkers, but they needed some raking. We played the blues and finding a good spot was easy. Pace of play was about 4 hours and 20 minutes. I had time to use their range, chipping, and putting greens. If you go, then do take advantage of the practice area because it is really decent and the best in the immediate area.

Rode the black tees this afternoon 9/26/2016 with my buddy Mack and his two buddies Ricki and Brian. POP was 4 hours taking our time not waiting on one shot with nobody behind us. Tee off was 90 degrees which is unheard of for Ventura--maybe that is why we saw maybe only a couple of groups on the whole course? Was liking playing a private club during the week. My buddy Mack and I paid $18.49 on a TeeOff.com promo. The fairways, tees and sand were all rated an 8 to an 8.5 for me. Tees were cut beautifully, lush with no divots on the 4 and 5 pars. The 4 and 5 par tees are like playing on the PGA tour. The sand was raked and was easy to hit out of. I was in the fairway bunker on 12 and it was compact just like you would want a fairway bunker to be. The fairways were super lush for this time of year, provided perfect lies and still ample roll. Just the best fairways I have seen in Socal. The greens were rated a 7 for me, Very soft, slower and I fixed my ballmark and at least 3-4 others per hole. This seems to be more of a problem here lately. With the greens so soft it really hurts the greens when people don't replace their marks. The greens were rolling fairly pure considering how soft they were. The punching on 10/10/16 will be great for the greens. The staff, practice areas, weather, layout and prices cannot be beat. Recommended.
