Played the Blacks (6818/73.0/130) as a 3some with Tom & Jerry in overcast, calm conditions in the 70's. We enjoyed a quick 3H, 15M pace as one of the 1st groups out. Got out for $18 w cart on a Teeoff.com special. The tees are lush, nicely maintained. Very few unfixed divots. The fairways are fairly lush and surprisingly soft. The course played long because of the lack of roll today. The few poor areas are clearly marked as GUR. The rough around the fairway is mostly lush and in spots lost ball thick/tall. Farther off the fairway is mostly hardpan with patches of lost ball rough. The traps had good quality sand and were nicely maintained. The greens were also surprisingly soft, maybe the softest I have ever seen them here. They putted medium speed and were fairly smooth. I was constantly short on chips/pitches because the ball was stopping so much quicker than usual for this layout. No frills pro shop is in a trailer, minimal food available onsite. NO GPS on carts, usually no drink cart. Excellent grass driving range complete with a good chipping and sand practice area that they have expanded to include a separate chipping area off to the side of the chipping green. Huge putting green that is usually very comparable to the course. Excellent course to walk, very flat. The customer service is always good here. Excellent value, especially for an above average layout in above average condition. Definitely recommended.

Rode the blues on Saturday July 30th on an EZlink Promo special for $25.99 at 2:27pm with my buddy Matt(BarkyDog1), Pedro7170 and his buddy Ryan. POP was a little over 4 hours on a postcard weather day--slightly humid, 5 mph breeze and around 70 degrees. Nice staff in pro-shop and on weekends here they usually have the grass range going. If you have not used it yet the grass range stalls have about the best turf you can find for a range--probably better than most fairways. They also have a huge putting and chipping green and a grass bunker to practice your short game.

The greens here are very SOFT on approach shots and chips with spin. Putting medium speed would venture to say around a 9-9.5 on the stimp and in really nice shape. I fixed an extra 2-4 ballmarks per green. I would rate the greens a 7.5/10.

The fairways had semi-lush green coverage in most all parts of the fairways--would say 80% lush--maybe 20% more compact--always had a good lie, Course does a nice job of circling GUR with white smaller circles. Considering the drought and weather Olivas is in a top notch state of class when it comes to their fairways. 7.5/10

Tees might be the best part of the course. Striped lush green mostly all level--most 3 pars filled in with sand. Rating them a 8/10

Bunkers--Was not in any bunkers but they always looked raked and contain while marble beach sand. I did notice some of my playing partners in some wetter sections of sand which might be from some sprinklers?

Rough--Very nicely maintained lusher rough lining some green complexes and fairways up to 2 inches. Not much rough on this course right off the greens but BIG fringes to navigate whether you want to Texas wedge it, bump and run it or flop it. Rated 8/10.

Good mix of a couple longer 4 par's and a couple nice length 5 par's. Sad to see some of the water features and lakes dry around 13/16 and 11/12.

They have some great pricing here as well with online deals as well as Twilight all day Tuesday's. Very much recommended for layout, weather, conditions, staff and price.

Played Olivas Links on Sunday at 11:20 and the weather was beautiful. This course never ceases to amaze me on how it's always in very nice shape every time I visit here. I have been scouting out retirement places between Ventura and Morro bay which always gives me a reason to play here. The course is playable for all types of ability, which is a reason why my girlfriend who is a beginner enjoys the course as well. On this Sunday, tee boxes were level and in good shape, fairways are always well maintained and the greens were good condition as well. Kent (my playing partner) and I, played the back tees, while the women played the forward tees. We finished in about 4 1/2 hours. We stayed down the street at the Ventura beach Marriott. We got to walk on the beach play a beautiful golf course and met some very nice people along the way...If you have never been here before, or it's been awhile, Olivas Links will not disappoint.

This Saturday, July 30th I played the Olivas Golf Course with 3 of my buddies. We started our tee time at 2:27 PM finished at 6:30PM. The temperature was great not to cold and not to hot. We had a great run of golf. It was great to see my buddy GK member Gary score one of his best round. He score 4 under excellent game and congratulations.

Customer services at Olivas were excellent. The tees were a great condition. The fairs ways were excellent compare to other golf course that I have played. The greens were rolling very nicely and they are in great conditions as well. I really had a great time. The wind was not to strong and very enjoyable to play.

Today, 7/25 was my second time on the current incarnation of Olivas links, the first being a few years ago. I used to play the original course back in the day. Went out 1:24 pm as a foursome — me walking, they riding — for $29, which is a very good price. To put it succinctly, conditions-wise this is the nicest course I've been on in quite a while: level, green tee boxes; nice fairways with consistent coverage, varying only a little in color here and there but not consistency of lie; other than the dry scruffy, "natural" areas, grass in the rough could be a little sticky, but frequently gave you the opportunity to recover; greens and surrounds were clean and ran medium quick. The greens had a lot of slope to them and the pins were in some challenging places, so the speed was appropriate. One guy in our group made comment about people fixing ballmarks, and I thought he must play some really nice private clubs back East where he hails from, because I wasn't seeing enough marks to make it any kind of issue at all. Not sorry to say, I missed the bunkers. A 2+ club headwind at times, but a beautiful day and the breeze and lower temperatures (vs. LA area) were very welcome. There is an excellent (mats) range and extensive warm up facilities. One can argue their preferences or not as to the links style, but not the general quality of the course right now. Letting a two-some and a single through at a couple of points, we got around in 4.5 hours with no one else in sight behind us. I really could't find a thing to complain about and (my miscues on the course not withstanding) I really enjoyed it. Yeah, I recommend it.

The fairways are very nice, with good coverage and a nice cushion under the ball. Greens rolled smoothly and medium fast. They held well struck shots nicely. Can't speak about the bunkers, but they looked very nice. With the cooler temperatures in Ventura and the current conditions at Olivas, this is a must play.

Played the Blues (6530/71.6/127) in 4H as a 4some with Manny & his 2 adults sons, Cameron & Phil in sunny, calm conditions in the 70's. Got out for $27 w cart through Teeoff.com. Shout out to their family patriarch for his 72, rarely do I see a guy in his 60's maneuver the ball around 18 holes from the Blues like Manny did today! Excellent course to walk, very flat. The tees are nicely maintained. Lush with very few unfixed divots. The fairways were very nice with few poor areas. Lush and firm. You better keep it at least in the short ring of maintained rough around the fairways here. The maintained rough around the fairway is mostly lush. The native rough farther off the fairway is mostly hard pan with patches of lost ball rough. The traps were close to immaculate with plenty of good quality sand. The greens putted medium to medium fast speed and held irons well. Firm and fairly smooth. Minimal negatives about this course, none of which affect MY golf experience here. There is a limited food/drink selection, no restaurant onsite. The cart person was just beginning to make rounds as we were finishing. Their pro shop is in a trailer and there is no GPS on carts. So bring food/drink/GPS if those are important to you. However, the positives greatly out weight any negatives. Excellent practice area. Grass driving range complete with a good chipping and sand practice area that they have expanded to include a separate chipping area off to the side of the chipping green. Huge putting green that is usually very comparable to the course. The customer service is always good to excellent here. Excellent value, especially for both a layout & course conditions that are well above average. Easily one of the best city or county run courses I have ever experienced. Definitely recommended.

Walked the blues this afternoon 7/18/2016 using the GK coupon for $24.00--great bargain--thanks GK! Teed off around 1:40pm. POP seemed slow for a Monday at 4 hrs 20 minutes waiting behind multiple groups. Teed off with a nice single Bob from Canada. Weather was breezy and beautiful. Greens were in very nice shape--fixed an extra ballmark or two on every green. They were very soft on iron approach shots and putted I would say medium speed maybe a 9 on the stimp? Overall in good shape rating them a 7.5/10. Fairways were semi lush and in very nice shape. Still get some roll even as lush as they are. Rating them a 7.5/10. Tees were mostly all level---great shape on the par 4's and 5 holes. Overall rating the tees a 8/10. Was in one fairway bunker that was perfectly raked and firm enough to make it easier to hit out of. Rough is nicely maintained around the edges of the fairways and greens. Get past the cartpaths and it could be hardpan or knee deep rough. Great staff, great layout, great practice areas, great prices and even though today was sometimes a 2 club wind--great weather usually--recommended.
