Played the Blues (6530/71.6/127) with GKers Steve and Tony in clear, breezy conditions in the 70's. Tony & I played our GK Cup match. I got a special $29 rate with a cart for currently being a underpaid teacher, nice touch Olivas! POP was okay for a Sunday afternoon, slightly over 4.5H. We rarely pushed the group in front of us and the group behind rarely pushed us. The tees were lush, nicely maintained. Very few unfixed divots anywhere. The fairways were firm and fairly lush. The few poor areas that were clearly marked as GUR. The rough around the fairway is mostly lush. Farther off the fairway could be hardpan with patches of rough that is now waist deep or anything in between. As our group experienced numerous times, the rough can be quite punitive here. A foot apart can mean swing and advance the ball a great deal, swing and lucky to advance the ball a short distance or forget it, your ball is gone! The traps were well maintained and have good quality sand, nice to play from. The greens were firm, smooth and putted medium fast speed. they held well struck irons with a little run out. If you are coming to Olivas just for the golf, everything is above average to excellent. Excellent layout to walk, very flat. Huge putting green that is usually very comparable to the course. Excellent grass driving range complete with a good chipping and sand practice area that they have expanded to include a separate chipping area off to the side of the chipping green. The customer service is always good to excellent here. Some of the amenities are lacking however. No clubhouse and the no frills pro shop is in a trailer. Minimal food available onsite. No GPS on carts, usually no drink cart. However, overall, considering the condition price and layout, one of the better deals around IMO. Definitely recommended.

Played the Blues (6530/71.6/127) with Joo, Mike and Danny in overcast, breezy conditions in the 70's. We played three different sets of tees and moved well, this was a good group to play with. I got a replay special for $20 with a cart after playing Buena in the morning. They had me on the first tee approximately 25 minutes after I putted out on #18 @ Buena a couple of miles down the road. POP was okay for a Saturday afternoon, 4.5H. Excellent course to walk, very flat. Huge putting green that is usually very comparable to the course. No frills pro shop is in a trailer, minimal food available onsite. No GPS on carts, usually no drink cart. However, I am play here more than any other course in So Cal because this is an above average layout almost always in above average condition @ good prices. Walked the blacks (73.0-130-6818) on 3-13-2017 on a TeeOff Promo special at 11:40am for 30 bucks walking joined by my buddy Mack and his buddies Ricki and Brian. Weather was perfect --high 70's little wind. POP was 4 hours 50 minutes waiting for most of the day. It was a beautiful day with great company so we did not mind much. Keep in mind that Buenaventura is currently closed and until they re-open expect a little bit more of a wait as they are owned by the same company and are only a couple miles apart. Lots of Buena regulars playing here currently which I was told by staff.

The greens were just beautiful. I was putting on the practice green rolling the first couple putts 4-5 feet by thinking boy I hope the greens are this nice and fast on the course. Seems like they were. Maybe they just rolled them--they were in great shape. Very few ballmarks, putting medium to fast speed and still holding irons with spin nicely. They for sure were the quickest greens I have played at Olivas in a while--great job rated 8-10.

The fairways have dried up some from the rain storms that we had the last several months(not as many muddy lies). Looking at the damage online that Buena endured I guess they got lucky here at Olivas. They are in nice shape--mostly lush with only muddy areas in front of most green complexes--I can only see them getting better come June, July and August during their championship months--currently rated 7-10.

The rough is mostly green, lush and healthy. They have several areas off the fairways in the native areas that are very high almost waist deep US open weeds and rough--awesome contrast and reminded me of some of the stuff I saw when this course first opened. My buddy went for the green in 2 on the par 5 4th hole and hooked his hybrid a little left of the cartpath and it took a search party to find his rock which we never found even seeing the general location it went in. Rough rating 7.5-10

The tees are all level--mostly lush with just some divot damage on the par 3's. Rated 7.5-10.

Was in one greenside bunker that contained nice white beach sand that was well raked and was easy to splash out of. Rated 8.5-10. Historically the bunkers here are all in great shape.

Overall this is such a great course when the Moorpark-Valley-LA areas are pushing into the 90's temp wise which it was on Monday. Great staff, great prices, fun layout and always above average conditions. Recommended.

This awesome course beat us up pretty good on a gorgeous sunny day, 03/12/17. The course was amazing, we just simply couldn't play that day. Our 12:20 tee time moved up to 11:40, and our round finished 4:10- it was all a good thing, considering it's a mid day on a weekend. Nothing wrong went on this exceptionally perfect day except for our game is all.

The greens were good and well undulated but fair (wicked pins, Mr Greens Keeper- ugh!). Thank goodness it isn't as fast as I would want it. The fairways were a little wet and muddy on the first hole, near front of the green, but that's it. We were on a cart- no carts on the 18th and the par threes. The bunkers seems to be okay with sand, we were only in a couple- fairway and greenside. There's water on hazards- the locals say it had dried out before.

The tall grass along sides are a brut although both times we were off line, we lucked out with a pretty good lie. This course is a lot of fun! The feel and its looks, together with its design in each hole where they strategically place bunkers and iconic trees are just awesome. The front's length and forgiveness contrasts the back's more of a short and tighter fairways (just seems to me). It also played a lot slower, too.

Also, there in its back drop where the breeze comes from, a dramatically thick fog teases to roll in and sometimes making a hazy visibility on the course made me wonder where I was. ...well, it's on this great Olivas Links course experience!

The next time I come and visit, I promise not to come from a great wedding party before a golf round here. #Respect.

The last time I played here was a different course in the late 90's. People here nowadays, the starter, food and bev gal at the mobile building were pretty good with information, and humble about their course and a nice welcome. You just wouldn't expect a good course like this- we were so off guarded. It's far and different from the high desert, but worth every mile a drive.

We loved this course and hope to come back and play it again soon- what a gem of a course!

Played today in POP of 3.5 thanks to the group in front letting us play through. I found the course to be very enjoyable to play and totally enjoyed the seashore paspalum fairways, having never played them here on the west coast. Greens were in nice shape (though 2 or 3 need more TLC) and chipped/putted nicely. Bunkers were in fine shape. Rough around the outside of the fairways was very deep but the very wide fairways helped eliminate any shots into those areas. I also liked the roll out achieved from tee shots. Tee boxes were all just fine. A very playable links golf course and look forward to going back and playing it again.

Played 2-13-17 with GDR23 in a little over 4 hours as a twosome waiting on most holes. Tee boxes were in descent shape, a little thin and damp but okay. Fairways were still a little soggy and thin with a lot of divot damage from it being cart path only and people not bringing a sand bottle with them from the cart. Rough was in good shape about 1-2 inches and lush. Some of the native grass areas are starting to grow back with all the rain and they are getting long and thick. Was in one greenside bunker that was a little thin but still descent to hit from. Greens were in pretty good shape, very soft but still rolling nicely.

I really like this course! Because it's like 130 mile drive from my home, I do not play here very often. If it were closer, I'd be here all the time. It just "fits my eye". Arrived early as we had the first tee time. It was cart path only today, which was fine with me as I prefer to walk. The first hole was horrible! It was soaked, still could see all the PULL CART tracks? The areas in front of the green was nothing but mud. I thought that it was going to be another day of trecking through mud, but holes 2- 17 were very playable. Wet, thin fairways, but not muddy, no standing water, not too bad. Greens were very nice, although we only had a couple that had been mowed, so they tended to be a bit slower than I'd prefer. #18 was again very wet, just like #1. It was a beautiful morning, a bit chilly at 6:15am (49 degrees), but by the turn, things had warmed up nicely. I'm pleased that they kept the carts on the path, rather than "cave" to the demands. Otherwise this place would really get torn up.

My name is Jack Swisher and I am the Director of Golf at Los Robles Greens Golf Course in Thousand Oaks and a Co-Host of the Finishing Forks Golf Podcast.

Played Olivas Links on February 13 in the early afternoon. The course is still wet in spots but that is understandable based on how much rain Southern California over the last month. The course was cart path only and rightfully so.

Overall course conditions are very nice and playable. Some standing water but if you are in one of those spots you should be taking a drop anyway. There was still decent roll out on the fairways even though it was wet.

Greens rolled smooth and we not too soft or wet.

Rode the black tees (73.0-130-6818) today 2-13-2017 with my buddy RGM2525. CPO today due to the rains. POP was 4 hours 10 minutes waiting for most of the day on a couple slower groups in front of us. Paid $20.49 on an EZlink promo special. Had not been out here for a couple of months. The course is still very wet and soggy in most spots but playable. The most soggy spots on most holes are the low draining areas and some areas just prior to some green complexes.

Fairways 6.5-10--Rated this way not due to lack of grass but more the grass is very wet, muddy and spongy in most spots due to the rain. With all of this rain I can actually see this course come spring or early summer maybe as lush and great as it has ever been.

Tees 7-10 Good shape, level, semi-lush teeing grounds--they are sanding the black tee on #16 so watch your footing on that box.

Greens 7-10 Thought the greens rolled fairly true. Most all greens were super receptive on iron approaches. Fixed a couple extra ballmarks per green. Very soft.

Bunkers--Was only in #9 fairway bunker on our last extra hole--it was raked and in good shape. Walking by all the bunkers they looked to be raked with soft sand and in good shape. I did not see any standing water in any bunkers.

Rough 7-10-- Lush green rough lining the fairways in good shape.

The lakes on 11-12, 13-16 are almost full of water which puts a little more bite to this course on tee shots on the back nine. Recommend maybe waiting a little while for this course to drain some--while playable it is quite wet at current time.
