My apologies in advance that this is as much a vent as a review… I played on 7-3-16. I had played there for the first time a couple of months ago. I loved the course so much I was anxious to get back. It was quite busy when I arrived an hour before my 12:21 tee time. I spent some time on the large grass range and the great chipping areas. The huge putting green was very crowded so I didn’t spend too much time there. I was paired with two men, and a very sweet high school junior girl who was playing in preparation of a tournament there later this week. Her mom was along for the ride as well as to play caddie. The good part of the day was the beautiful course conditions. The fairways, rough, and bunkers are all in great shape. There were a few areas of GUR but they were well marked and didn’t cause any problems. The greens were very slow, but after playing the day before at Monarch, I had the speed down pretty well. All of the good was badly overshadowed by the behavior of the men. They had announced to me before we started that they haven’t played in 2 years so I should be patient with them. No problem- until they started playing from the blues. Then, after literally every shot, they would curse in language that was disturbing, to say the least, and certainly inappropriate in the company of a teenager. After just 4 holes we were almost 2 holes behind (no marshal in sight) so the girl, her mom and I broke off and played ahead. I immediately started playing better. Unfortunately at the turn, the marshal appeared and told us we had to pair up again. I considered leaving at that point but just bit my tongue and finished the round. All that said, I highly recommend the course and want to play again as soon as possible.

Played the Blacks (6818/73.0/130) as a 2some with Tom in overcast, calm conditions in the 70's. We enjoyed a relaxed 3H, 45M pace as one of the 1st groups out. Got out for $17 w cart on a Teeoff.com special. The tees are lush, nicely maintained. Very few unfixed divots anywhere. The fairways were fairly lush and firm. Very nice with the few poor areas clearly matked as GUR. The rough around the fairway is mostly lush and in spots lost ball thick/tall. Farther off the fairway is mostly hardpan with patches of lost ball rough. The traps had good quality sand. Not raked yet today, but still better than average. The greens were firm, smooth and medium speed. They both looked and putted good. The customer service is always good here. No frills pro shop is in a trailer, minimal food available onsite. NO GPS on carts, usually no drink cart. Excellent grass driving range complete with a good chipping and sand practice area that they have expanded to include a separate chipping area off to the side of the chipping green. Huge putting green that is usually very comparable to the course. Excellent course to walk, very flat. Excellent value, especially for an above average layout in above average condition. Definitely recommended.

Tees are mostly lush, fairways for the most part, are amazing, tight and cut low. Greens are challenging and in great shape, rough is mostly dry and the traps are in reasonably good shape.

Pace was slow. Lots of walking players, lots and lots of folks out period. The place is popular and should be for the layout, conditions and rates.

A winning formula that other area courses could learn from (Hello Sterling Hills and Camarillo Springs)

Played 6-14-16 on a teeoff deal for $17.19 including cart. Teed off as a single around 5:25am and finished a little before 7. Tee boxes were in there usual good shape, lush and level. Fairways were in real good shape with an occasional GUR marked off. Rough along fairways was in good shape and not to long. Bunkers have nice white sand and look to be in good shape. Greens were in nice shape semi-firm and rolling medium fast. Overall course is in real nice shape and definitely worth playing.

Played here yesterday with the LA Golf Group, and we had fun at always. We come to Olivas at least once a year as they offer us a pretty good rate (early twilight, walking $36), the course is always in good shape and the weather is nice and cool in the summer. All three of those were the case yesterday, as well. I was in the second group of three and we teed off around 1:10. We enjoyed a nice relaxed pace and finished under 4.5 hours.

The course overall was in nice shape and maybe the greenest I've seen it. Tee boxes were great. Fairways were generally fantastic with nice fluffy lies and generous roll-out. I did see some signs of recent aeration that is almost fully healed, but there were a few dimpled areas. The primary rough was easy to hit from and the native areas were clear enough our players were usually able to find and play their balls. As is typical here, any weak spots in fairways or primary rough were painted off as GUR, which I always appreciate. I was not in any bunkers, so no comments there. Greens were good, but not great. Receptive and rolling at medium speeds. They did seem a little beat-up, though. Lots of old ball marks and fresh ones that were not repaired. I fixed up my share. The greens were a little bumpy at times because of all the pock marks.

Overall, another good experience at Olivas Links!

Walked the blues this afternoon 5/16/2016 with my buddy Mack and his buddies Rickie and John on a Teeoff promo code special for $12.99---incredible deal considering how good of shape Olivas is in. Got off around 2pm which was a little earlier than our time. We took our time today finishing in 4 hours letting a couple of singles play through. I got some extra holes in after the round on a beautiful 70 degree day with a light 5 mph breeze. You can tell the City Championships are coming here on June 11th and 12th. The course is in great shape with several trouble spots marked off with white GUR circles.

The fairways are semi-lush with beautiful green summer grass perking up in most spots. Still get some roll out on well struck drives. Most lies are great in the fairways. Rating them an 8/10 today.

The greens are in great shape. They are rolling probably around a 9.5 on the stimp-smooth putting with very visually beautiful surfaces. I did fix an extra 3 ballmarks per hole but still rating the greens an 8/10.

The tees are Lush, green and mostly all level. Any divots on 3 pars are mostly filled in. Rating them an 8.5/10.

The bunkers seem to be in great shape--mostly all raked containing marble white beach sand. Some of the sand seemed to be damper and wetter than I have seen waking by them. Was in one fairway bunker on #9 that was in good shape. Did not experience any of the greenside bunkers. Rating the bunker I was in 8/10.

Rough is healthy and wispy off the cart paths. We spent numerous time looking for my buddy's ball right of 2 fairway and right of 14 fairway after his second shot. You do not want to be off the cart paths or the beaten side of the rough here as it could be a lost ball or hack out.

Very friendly staff, usually great summer weather, reasonable prices, great layout and practice area--recommended for sure.

Played 4/30 as part of the SCGA One Day Series and was my first time playing Olivas Links. Pace of play was just above 5 hours but I assume some of that was because of the tournament setting. Was impressed with the blue tees, all were in good shape with minimal divots. Fairways were semi-lush and mowed short. Some had GUR clearly outlined. I was only in one greenside bunker and it had good sand (even though I played a bad shot). Greens were slower than I expected. Rolled smoothly, but did not roll-out especially coming down a couple of tiered greens (front to back section of #9...as well as front to back/left section of #13). I'd like another crack at this course, and will look to come back in the future.

Played 4-26-16 Early morning on a teeoff deal for $17.19 including cart. Went out as a single and with no one in front of me but maintenance finished in a little under 2 hours. Tee boxes are in good shape, still healing from being punched but doesn't effect play. Fairways are real nice right now very lush and great to hit from. Rough around fairways is cut pretty low but outside that is a mix from hardpan dirt to knee high grass. Bunkers are in great shape nice soft white sand. Greens are in nice shape rolling medium speed and holding there line nicely.

Very Enjoyable round this afternoon 4/18/2016 walking the blues with my buddy Mack and his friends Rickie and John. Weather was just postcard perfect today--75-80- degrees at 2pm tee off with maybe a 5mph wind this afternoon. Used promo code on teeoff.com for $18.49--did not take the cart that came with the round. Looks like I missed Weber that teed off earlier this morning. POP was just over 4 hours taking our time--practice putting to avoid waiting too much on the group in front of us.

The greens which were punched a month ago are in pretty good shape for Olivas---I have seen them quicker but today they were rolling medium speed and held irons like darts. Our group fixed several ballmarks per hole. Not sure why players here do not fix their marks. Anyway maybe with another week and having them rolled the greens will be in even better shape. Rating them a 7.5/10 today.

The fairways I would call semi-lush with still just minor signs of punching and you still get some roll on well struck drives. Rating them a 7.5/10. Most all tees were level and lush and in good shape. Rated 8/10.

Was in fairway bunker on #3 soft raked sand in good shape. Was not in any greenside bunkers but they all looked beautiful.

Rough just lining the fairways lush and on other sides of path rough really growing wild which makes this course beautiful and gives it some teeth.

Just a great staff, practice areas, layout and prices. No brainer when its pushing 90 degrees in Moorpark, Simi and Valley to venture out to Ventura.

Recommended.
