Played Olivas Monday 6/8/2015 online special for $18.00 walking with my buddy Pedro7170. Course was in very good shape with the greens rolling around a 10 on the stimp, very few to any ballmarks and holding irons very nicely. All of the teeing grounds are lush grass cut very nicely. Some of the par 3's have sand divots. The bunkers looked to be nicely raked and contain beach sand--was not in any. The fairways were semi-lush and in good shape--few hardpan spots here or there but not to bad. Staff and practice facilities excellent. Considering Moorpark was 95 degrees yesterday it was an easy call to play in Ventura. The course was crowded and we played in 4 hours and 40 minutes. Ventura sometimes will make you shake your head. We had beach fog for most of the back nine and it was around 30 degrees cooler around 65---felt like we were overseas--awesome experience. They are having their City Championships coming up in a couple of weeks--now is a good time to play Olivas.

Today, I had the oppurtunity to play a round of golf at the Olivas Links Golf Course with my buddy Gary (greenskeeper member). Our tee time was at 2:28 PM but thanks to Olivas staff we were able to go out a few minutes earlier. We had a great time and we didn't wait for any body. The greens, fairways and tees were in great shape. The ball was rolling great and the temperature was just excellent. The rough around the greens is tall and very hard to get out.

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to play the Olivas Links with my friends and greenskeeper members: Gary, Lars and Johnny GK. We had a great round of golf and I even experienced my friend Gary getting an eagle on hole seventh. The fair ways and greens were in excellent conditions, the tees were level and in great condition as well. We finish our round in 4 hrs and we had no body in front of us.

Played Olivas Links yesterday afternoon 5/11/2015 at 1:30pm with buddies JohnnyGK, Lars(Bigswede), and Pedro(Pedro7170) walking the blue tees in 4 hours 30 minutes on a windy afternoon. Met by great staff in the trailer---great practice facilities and we were off. Greens 8/10---The greens are smooth and in great shape with little to no ballmarks or pitch marks. I have seen the greens roll faster before. I would say they were rolling around a 9.5-10 on the stimp. They were rolling medium speed. The pin placements today were very challenging and tucked on some holes. The greens were soft, receptive and just in overall great shape. I know their City Championships are coming up so I expect they will roll them just before. Fairways 7/10-- In pretty good shape---looks like they are trying to water the browner or thinner hardpan spots. Some areas marked off GIR. For the most part the fairways were semi-lush with very few divots and are in good shape. Bunkers 8.5/10---Probably the best part of the course. Raked beach sand that is consistent from bunker to bunker and is easy to hit out of. Was in the bunker on number 5 and number 18 and found the sand to be in great shape. Tees 8/10--Very good shape---some of the par 3's have some divots. Par 4 and 5 boxes are in great shape---usually all level. A great course for walkers--flat and long--good exercise. Layout---If you play in the afternoon plan for the wind. Got a great amen corner here on 11-13 and 16 today even though it was straight downwind is a challenging golf hole. I look forward to playing Olivas in the upcoming months as I know the conditions will get even better.

Had a rare opportunity to play a Monday round of golf so joined GKers GDR23, Pedro7170 and Bigswede for some early afternoon golf. Good times. Olivas Links is in great shape. You can tell they are putting more attention into the maintenance with the Ventura City Championship approaching in June. I expect the conditions of the course to continue to improve week to week. Plus Olivas has turf that thrives in the summer months. The greens although not fast, are rolling smooth and holding shots. The fairways are mostly lush with just occasional thin areas which in almost all cases the golf course has marked as GUD. Overall the fairways were in great shape. The rough at Olivas is either low cut or up to a foot high, total hit or miss between playing your ball easily or losing it. I like the character it provides to the layout. The bunkers contained good quality sand and were well maintained. The tee boxes were level, lush and in great shape. I have to say, I really like the renovation they did to the driving range. The mats are high quality, the range targets are fun (try to hit a wedge into the barrel), they have a chipping area, sand & pitching area and a giant practice putting green. Everything you need to get totally warmed up. But my favorite part of Olivas is the layout. Challenging and interesting. It’s the perfect course for anyone the like to walk. Level and you can’t beat the mild ocean temps. I will hopefully be back soon.

Played Olivas this afternoon for the first time in 3 months. Our foursome walked the blue tees in 4 hours 15 minutes waiting for a very slow foursome two groups ahead of us. Weather was around 80 degrees with a swirling 15mph plus wind that was steady start to finish. I used a 19 dollar internet rate that was a steal. Olivas has some of if not the nicest staff in the county. They have upgraded their driving range with some targets and have a nice practice area.

Greens 8/10---You can't even tell that they were punched just recently. Looks like they were recently cut and mowed. They were in pretty darn good shape rolling nice with minimal to no bounces. Irons and wedges were stopping like darts so they were soft and receptive today even with the wind.

Fairways 7/10---I would rate the fairways a tad above Rustic and Soule---they either had ample or just enough coverage--would not call them lush or hardpan--just in between---I know for the City and County championships coming up they will probably water them some more---historically the fairways here are great from May-August.

Tees 7.5/10---Par 4 and 5 tees were in very good shape---some of the par 3 boxes were divot prone...looks like the course is doing a good job rotating them

Bunkers/NR--was not in one of them--they all looked raked with ample sand---some of them to the naked eye looked a little damp

Rough is hard to rate so I will just say this---you could be either in a patch where you are unplayable where they are growing US open rough or you could just miss it and be in some hardpan areas.

For walkers this is a flat course that is long-anywhere from 6550 to 6850 for yardages from the back two tees----not many hills---if you are walking in the afternoon count on walking into and with the wind.

Great layout with challenges on number 6, 12, 13 and number 16--looking forward to many summer rounds here...recommended.

Played 3-5-15 with John and Nick in a little over 4 1/2 hours walking as a threesome. The course is in real nice shape. Tee boxes are in real good shape and level. Fairways are very lush with a few brown spots but mostly great lies.First cut of rough is 2-3 inches and lush, outside that is anywhere from bare to 2 feet. Sand traps are in real good shape with just the right amount of sand. Greens are in the best shape I have seen them in, in a while. They are rolling smooth with medium speed.

The golf course was in great shape with the greens the highlight. They were medium-fast, firm and rolled smooth with occasional bumps. I fixed my share of ball marks which in my opinion was the only reason the greens had occasional bumps. Fairways in very good condition, mostly lush with some brown areas, some thin spots and just few bare spots that were marked GUR. The primarily rough was just a tad higher than the fairway turf but the next cut is hit and miss where you are either lost in 2+ feet or finding your ball in a playable position. Most of the time, the ball is lost. However, the fairways are wide at Olivas Links so if you spayed your shot that bad to find the thick stuff, you feel like you deserved the punishment. Bunkers in great shape, well groomed in good quality sand. Tee boxes lush and cut tight.

Expect Olivas Links turf condition to continue to improve as the weather warms. Normally the course is in its peak shape May – July. But with the warm winter it’s already ahead of itself from years past.

Pace of play was 2 ½ hours on the front 9 and then opened up on the back 9. We finished in 4 ½.

Personally, I love this course. It’s a walking golfer’s dream course. Interesting, challenging flat layout with coastal weather and a relaxing vibe. I have never, ever, walked off this course unsatisfied with my day.
