I really hate that this course is so far from home because it is definitely one of my new favorites. This was our 2nd round of the day after River Ridge and we tee'd it up at about 12:50 for $39 booking on there website. Wind had started to pick up when we got there and maintained probably a steady 10-15 mph the whole time and it seemed like more holes were into the wind rather than downwind. Layout is really open with some really well placed bunkers and trees but until you know how to keep the ball down and learn your adjusted yardages I think the wind is what will eat up your score. The condition of the course was amazing and even better than I would have imagined. All the tee boxes were cut tight and perfectly level and usually I like how the different tees are separated by rough in well defined squares or ovals but the tee areas here were all cut together at the same height and it looked awesome. Fairways were some of the best I have played even though they were cut really tight they were still very lush. Rough was good around the greens and just off the fairways, minimal bare spots and maybe around 2-3" tall. Stray any farther than a few yards off the fairway then you will either be in dirt, under a tree or in the really tall grass. Bunkers all had good sand but varied with a couple being dry and fluffy and a couple being a little damp and heavy. Tall rough around the bunkers looked awesome but I would hate if I ever got caught in it. Greens were putting really smooth at medium speed with exception of a couple being pretty bumpy. It seemed there were a lot more ball marks and old dead ball mark areas on the back nine. Course knowledge would help for a few holes here but it is pretty straight forward. Pace was perfect considering how crowded the course looked when we got there and there were a ton of people on the range and practice green but we finished in just about 3:45 mins. It was definitely worth the 130 mile drive and hopefully I can make it back out here a couple times a year.

Beautiful course in great condition. Great practice facility with both grass and mat hitting areas. Huge putting and chipping greens were great as well. Pro shop was set up in a trailer, but it didn't bother me. I rather they spend money on the course anyways. Customer service was great. All the staffs were friendly and helpful. Tee boxes and fairways were lush and in top shape. Bunkers were filled with nice sand and consistent throughout the course. The greens were on the quicker side but were receptive. There were a lot of old divot marks that got in the way of putts. This was unfortunate, since the greens would otherwise have been in perfect shape. Fix your divots people! First round just under 4 hours and 2nd round slightly over 4.5. Best replay rate anywhere at $20 with cart.

I'm was in town from Washington and it is so nice seeing roll out with the driver....I typically get almost no roll back home POP was great considering the course looked very busy. 4.5 first day teeing off at 11 4.25 2nd day teeing off at 1:56 Staff was great. Multiple staffers greeted me with a smile. Both starters were friendly. They didn't jam people on the course...which really helps Greens rolled good if you hit a solid putt...bumpy at times. Speed was good....I've seen faster and slower. Maybe like one of the last reviews said...9.5 Fairways were really nice in my opinion. I didn't mind the few GUR's on the course. At least they were marked. Divots were filled in....they are doing a good job out there. They had a staffer just filling in fairway divots. Some areas of the fairways, I would rate as country club quality. Tee boxes were great. I didn't mind the one par 3 that I noticed damage...I could still find a good spot Rough were in good shape. Hit and miss sometimes when its a links course Sand was good as far as I could tell. I was in a few I will definitely play here again when I come to town.

Enjoyed an early morning round this morning 7/23 with buddies and GK members Nickesquire1 and Barkydog1. We walked the blue tees at 6:15am and finished at 10:30am..only a couple groups in front of us. Weather was perfect for golf--no wind and about 60-68 degrees from start to finish. The fairways are semi-lush to lush green grass. They are completing some minor maintenance on fairways #18, #1 and #2. I thought the fairways were in very good shape. Tees are always level here and are semi-lush in good shape. Some par 3's have some divot damage. Was not in any bunkers but they seemed more compact at this time in the morning according to my buddies. Greens are actually putting a little firmer than say last month. In the morning the greens and fringes were holding irons like darts. I would say they are putting anywhere between a 9 and 9.5. There are some ball marks present on the green but they still rolled fairly true. Staff was wonderful and got us out right when we showed up on the waiting list.

Enjoyed an early a.m. round in very calm conditions with Longball23 & Matt. We walked the blues (6530/72.4/132) in 4h, 15m for $29. The course definitely plays longer in the a.m. with the marine layer, moist conditions and the heavy air. However, that is a fair trade off for missing the afternoon ocean breezes that kick up when you play my usual twi-light hours here. The greens were medium fast and bumpy @ times. Decent, but not that great by previous Olivas standards, plus there were a ton of ball marks. The fairways were good overall, you usually had good lies. There were several fairways the workers were working on that had open areas that were GUR. The tees were good overall, the par 3 tees had alot of divot damage for early a.m., they obviously had not been rotated today. The first cut of rough is nicely manicured, and the native stuff is higher in many areas than it was the last time I played here. I incurred 4 penalty strokes today for losing balls in deep stuff not that far off the fairway... yet I could have had a playable ball in thinner stuff or have been on hardpan within 10-15 yards in either direction. In other words, while you could get lucky, you are flirting with disaster when you get off the beaten path @ Olivas. The sand traps were fair, several had sprinkler water runoff issues and they had not been recently raked. Compared to the condition of the courses in Portland this time of year, my old friend Olivas paled in comparasion. I expected the conditions to be better, but Olivas is still one of my all-time favorite courses to play overall. @ $29 to walk, it's a good value.

Played Saturday, 7/13, after not playing here for about 8 months. The good things were still good - the greens (for the most part, although they were much slower than before), the practice facilities (with one glaring exception), the layout, and the price and value.

We had a 2:45 teetime, and wound up going off at just before 3pm. The round took about 5 hours, and even though we waited on just about every shot, we finished with plenty of daylight, so I have really no serious complaints with the POP.

I do, however, have some major complaints about the cart situation. Clearly, Olivas Links needs to invest in more carts, or a quick-charge system. There were literally no carts available when we checked in, and the pro-shop attendant either had no idea of the situation, or didn't want to deal with telling us, since he handed me the cart key and said to take any of the carts outside. Or maybe he meant for us to grab any unattended cart, as I saw one group try to do. I saw one group walk in from #9, looking for a cart to replace the one that had apparently died on them a couple of holes before, and then saw another dead cart in the middle of the fairway on #2. There were a couple of other situations with players in front of us, but you get the idea. My friend had played there two weeks before, and he said that it was exactly the same that day, too. Great prices and value not withstanding, this is just not acceptable for any course at any time.

There was also a problem with the range, as they had to close it literally 10 minutes after we arrived, so that there staff could go and shag balls by hand. Their collection cart was apparently also dead. Hope this is not another sign of management or financial woes, as happened before. I really do like this course, even with the problems.

Played 7/14/13. First time here and was very impressed with overall experience. Only a couple of trailers to make up the proshop, but not really a negative, except I like to enjoy a nice 19th hole. Driving range conditions: Very good. Large pitching area, very well maintained. Large putting green, also very good condition. The course is fitted in to a relatively small area, like a jigsaw puzzle, and while the is some congestion of tees, greesn and carts paths near the intersection of 11/12/13, and 17/18, it seems to work well. This (IMO) is not what I would consider as much of a links style course, than say Summerly or Rustic Canyon, but does play quite flat. No elevation changes, but most holes seem to accept high shots and don't usually require some of the run-up shots you may like to try at a more traditional links style course. Conditions: Excellent from tee to green. Fairways very lush and well maintained, and same for greens. Rolling true and are receptive. Very impressed with conditions as first time guest here. Played in cool and windy conditions, and at extremely slow (5.5 hr POP) pace (Saturday noon, with a few small tournanments out in front of us), but stuck it out to see the entire course. Enjoyed back nine a bit more than a kind of mundane front 9. Highly recommend and will try again next time I'm in the area.

Played 7/3/13. Was supposed to tee off at 2:36 as a threesome, but didn't tee off until 2:45 due to lack of cart availability (they were quite busy today, and there was a shortage of carts). Finished at around 7:20. POP was ok, I was stuck behind a very slow 4 some. I asked nicely to pass through but was rudely rejected (they had already let 2 or 3 groups pass previously) and they proceeded to drive all over the par 3 5th and continued their slow POP.

Fairways were excellent. Very nice lies, and are cut tight. I got some nice rollouts on teeballs. Rough was also excellent, very lush and playable until you get into the fescue type grass (which is quite thick).Bunkers are nice and fluffy as well. Greens were slow and bumpy, but they rolled true and held iron shots well. Always enjoy playing Olivas and highly recommend it.

Weather: 77 degrees light winds around 5-10... perfect golf conditions!!

Fairways 8.5/10....Prob the best I have seen the fairways here. Lush, perfectly cut, nice presentation, no bad lies, decent amount of roll

Bunkers 8.5/10...Raked beach sand in almost perfect condition, ample amount of sand, one buddy was in one bunker that looked a little wet

Tees: 8.5/10..Would be rated a 9 for me if it wasn't for just minor divot damage on the par 3's. All tees are level, lush and perfectly cut

Greens 7/10...They still need to be cut in my opinion but they were green and in pretty decent shape, rolling probably close to a 9 on the stimp, still a little slow and you have to be aggressive to make putts here.

Rough 8/10...Little bit of a change I saw here the rough was green. lush and 3 inches just off the fairways..prob grown out for the City tournament. Past the cartpaths they have really let it grow like when they first opened the course. My one buddy was in the knee deep high stuff twice and both times we almost had to step on it to find it after watching it go in.

POP: We had a slow group in front of us so it took 4 hours 45 minutes walking.

Recommended especially this time of year.
