Played on may 31st afternoon. 2nd round of the day. One of my favorite courses. Fairways, tee boxes are immaculate. Can't comment on the bunkers since I wasn't in one that day. Not a big fan of the greens though. Played here about 7 times now and I never liked the greens. It just seems very grainy to me and slower than usually. Pace of play was pretty good til we got to the 11th hole. A threesome with carts let a threesome of walkers go ahead of them. The threesome with carts were bad. Playing from the blues and they couldn't even hit it pass the white tees. Of course the group behind us thought that my threesome was slowing the pace down. End of finishing the round in about 4 hr 45 mins.

I played this morning, this was my first time playing here. My experience is very limited as I have been playing for about 10 months and I usually play back nine at Los Robles so I am kind of comparing this to Los Robles. I had a lot of fun, I felt I was challenged in so many different ways. This course is in great shape, Greens were slower than expected based on comments from the other players, but for me I was able to read the greens and my speed was on it. This was my best putting day I've aver had. We finish our round (threesome) in just under 4 hours so pace of play was really good. Checking process was a bit slow but nothing to worry about I was there early. Overall, I had fun in this course-BTW, all the tips listed here about each hole were right on it...I made a cheat sheet and it helped me a lot.

Was able to get out there Tuesday Afternoon as I am working the night shift over in Carpenteria. The weather was great , a little breezy at times but expected, being this close to the coast. The course is in very nice shape, the fairways are like carpet, makes the ball sit up perfectly.
If it weren't for the four walkers and very slow playing practices they had, it would have been perfect. Made for a frustrating front nine. One of the guys I hooked up with had had enough at the 9th tee and called the front desk. They actually drove out to us to see the problem. By the time he got out to us he said I don't see that they are in your way at this time, and we replied, we have been waiting for fifteen minutes for these bozos to clear the way. Been that way all day. He proceeded to drive forward and came back to us as we were on the green and said he was going to have us play through on the tenth tee.
Great.. then these idiots teed off anyway. The guy from the office came back out when he saw what they did and drove out to them. It looked as if they were off to the side so we started teeing off, to get past these monkeys.
They had been told to wait... when we got to our tee shots this one guy, (one of four older Asian men) went off.. yelling at us, saying he has never seen anything like this in 45 years. Jeez he has been holding up the golfing public for a long time!!
They were three holes behind the pace. It was smooth sailing from then on and they never even came close to catching up with us. Kudos to the management. They only had to wait maybe three minutes for us to clear out?
Ok back to the course, haha fun layout, trouble awaits errant tee balls but then again you could get very lucky. The grasses on the sides are very long and tough to get out of with some open areas in between.
The short putts were hard to read for me as I saw more break than what was there. A little bumpy roll at times on the longer ones but seemed to roll true for the most part.
Greens were a little inconsistent on approach shots, some stopped close and others bounded through. Traps were good, consistent sand in them.
I can see having a good score here, wide fairways, avoid the trouble and pray for little less wind. I will play here again.

Played Olivas Links with GK'ers longball23, NickEsquire1 and Pedro7170 Monday and was very pleased with the playing conditions. I did not expect the golf course to already be in its summer form (which is when Olivas plays best) in May. Already lush fairways/tees with smooth medium/fast greens. Just a pleasure. Bunkers in great shape with quality sand and the rough, as many have described, rugged/patchy (hit or miss if you are on a bare spot or a foot deep). Service at Olivas Links was friendly and professional. Pace of play on a weekday, quick, got around in 4hrs. Always a fun layout that will challenge all parts of your game. Can’t wait to play it again.

My home course is Glen Annie in Goleta, but when there's tournaments being held I love to go to Olivas Links in Ventura. I played on 5/10 and the course was in great shape, nice fairways and challenging greens. It get's a little breezy, but that's part of the challenge when you play a links style course. It's also a great walking course. Sometimes gets a little crowded with the locals, but nice people none the less.

Today, I played with my buddy Longball23 and two greens keeper members (JohnnyGK and Nickesquire1 at the Olivas Links. What a perfect day and the weather was just spectacular almost no wind. The fairways were in excellent conditions as they were just cut. The greens were just perfect. We played from the Blue Tees, which were in great conditions as well. The bunkers have plenty of sand and had no problem getting out of a few bunkers that I hit. The only thing that I was concerned with was the roughs. The grass is a little tall and hard to get out of it. Overall the staff at Olivas were great and we didn't have to wait for not body in front of us. I was very happy with the conditions of the Olivas golf course and overall I will give this course a 9.

A treat to get to go out and play Olivas while visiting family in So Cal. Walked in 4.5 hours with Longball23, JohnnyGK & Pedro7170 on a beautiful Monday afternoon. The greens were medium fast and generally good to very good. Only a few had more than moderate ball mark damage. Firm but held approach shots well. The one trap I was in had nice sand and was well maintained. The rough here is very hit and miss. You could be on hardpan, lush rough where your ball will sit up, thick rough where just getting your ball out is a good shot all the way to knee deep stuff that is a sure lost ball unless you step on it... all within a few square yards in some cases. The rough overall is certainly much less punitive today than when the course re-opened after renovation in 2007. Saying the fairways, aprons and tee boxes are lush doesn't really do them justice. I have seen courses that had greens that aren't as nice as an Olivas fairway. The ball really rolled well if you played a low shot on the fairways. Customer service was a ++ as always, thanks to Carl & his staff for getting us out.

Weather: Mid to low 70's 10 mph breeze to start the round and wind subsided as round went on..perfect golf conditions


Fairways 9/10....If you really want to see almost perfect links fairways come out here in the next several months...they are in great shape, semi lush with firm rolls on drives. Green and probably the best I have seen them in years

Tees: 8.5/10 All level, green and lush with only very few minor divot damage on the par 3's. Great shape

Greens: 7/10...Rollign fairly true, holding shots nicely like darts. Looks like they may have just been cut and rolled? Probably rolling close to a 9 on the stimp

Bunkers: Was not in any but saw that all bunkers were raked with white beach sand and in good shape.

Rough 8/10...First cut just off the fairways green and lush and in good shape.

Pace of play was great today and the staff and practice facilities are great here. This is for sure a summer and spring course so come out and enjoy.

Overall 8.5/10 for conditions

played 5-14 at 2:10 on there twilight tuesday, payed $20 to walk. pace of play was descent at 4 hours 10 minutes. tee boxes in real good shape very lush and mostly level. fairways in best shape i have seen them in a while, very lush a few bare spots that are marked of with white paint. first cut of rough is 1-2inches and in good shape, outside that is a mixture of knee high grass to bare dirt. was in three sand traps and all had very good sand. the biggest disappointment for me is the greens. they look really nice, but the are very slow and a little bumpy, hard to keep a putt on line. still enjoy the layout of this course, just wish the greens where a little faster and smoother.
