Sorry for super late post but played here early morning of tues 4/3/18. course in great shape POP was solid, under 4.5 hours for sure. greens very quick. this course remains one of the real gems in greater LA area. started on back 9 which was kind of nice to get the brutal holes out of the way early. looking forward to getting back here soon.

Out this afternoon 4/16/2018 walking the Blues joined by my buddy Brian paying their mid day walking rate of $29.00. POP was 3 hrs 50 minutes. Weather was laughable(thought I would chance the forecast as it called for wind around here yesterday and it was fairly calm)--we had a 30mph + hurricane swirling wind for all of the back nine and most of the front nine--it was a fun first 13 holes and the last 5 holes were crazy--hitting 4 woods into number 14 and 16 for our second shots and barely getting them to the fringe even after smoked drives--hats blowing off, etc.--lol. The greens were quick and firm and rolling beautiful--you need to be spinning the ball here or hitting high trajectory irons. More and more poa creeping into them but still in great shape. Rated 8/10 The tees are in very good shape. Level and lush--rated 8/10. Fairways are 50/50 lush to thin. Rated 6/10. They are playable--you do get a ton of roll still if you hit the ball low. Greenside rough is in very good shape--lush and thicker. Rated 8/10 The rough lining most fairways is very poor, dry and hardpan in places. Rated 5/10 Rustic is fun to play even with the crazy wind conditions today.

Out this afternoon 4/2/2018 walking the Blues with buddies Mack and Brian joined by a nice single John. POP 4 hrs. Weather was epic scoring weather--other than a strong breeze the first 3 holes the remaining 15 holes were postcard--mid 60's with hardly any wind. Paid $22.00 walking--super deal. Nice staff in clubhouse let us go 10 minutes early at 2:20pm. The fairways are making a comeback. The last couple times I have played here they were very dry. Today I saw a lot more green than in previous rounds. Sure they contain some different tuffs of grass and the fairways are not super lush but they are getting into their green spring state. This course historically has great fairways from April usually through August. Current rating is a 6/10. The greens were in good shape--maybe a 10.5 on the stimp. Downhillers still need to be touched with precision. Not a ton of ball marks and rolling medium to quick speed. They hold high irons and chips with spin nicely. Rated 7.5/10. I thought the tees were the highlight of the course. Super lush and mostly level. In very good shape--rated 8/10. Greenside rough super green and lush and in great shape. Rated 8/10. The poorest part of the course remains the rough just outside many of the fairways. Its very dry and hardpan in most areas. Rated 4.5/10. With the fairways starting to grow in nicely and the current shape of the tees and greens I would recommend this course to anyone. Great challenging layout that is a blast to play.

I played here yesterday with three others teeing it up at 7:30 and finishing at 12:30 walking. I was so lucky years ago to find this website and sign up so i could check course conditions before making a tee time. It has worked almost perfectly. The phrase "know before you go" is genius. After reading the previous couple reviews for RC i was a little reluctant to play here but i noticed that a few other courses were doing maintenance to the greens and RC was not so i went for it. I concur with the last two reviews regarding the fairways and rough.....i think they need to do a better job maintaining these areas. With all the rains i can understand why the bunkers are inconsistent and why they are behind in their mowing. The tee boxes were level and nice to hit from and the greens were surprisingly hard but did hold high shots struck well. I did not se many ball marks nor were the greens slow. I thought they were the highlight of the course and we all enjoyed this fantastic lay out. Have i seen RC in better shape? Absolutely! Is it worth playing in its present condition? Absolutely! I say give all the Ventura area golf courses your business, with all the flooding due to rain they could use it and conditions will definitely improve.

Played the front 9 twice on Friday after the rains...was sorely disappointed. Boxes were pretty good, but that was about it. Fairways looked like dead weeds with pockets of new weeds growing. Very little green in the fairways. Greens were in good condition with the exception of ball marks. Greens were VERY slow. Rough was okay...again very spotty but better than the fairways. Natural area was nothing but weeds and dead bushes. A few hours of yardwork would go a long way here. After years of being a great course, I definitely won't be back until I see a few more positive reviews here.

I have to say it. The course does not look in good condition. Tees, greens and aprons are all green, but the rest is dry dry dry.

Fairways look like gigantic shredded wheats and play about how that would sound. Making it worse from a visual stand point is that there are little tufts of green here and there giving a pretty unsightly spotty appearance - some tufts of what I think looks like the original rye are poking up, but many of those green tufts are just weeds too. As for the straw-like turf, I see little sign of the original, actual dormant turf - just mainly crab grass gone to sleep for winter.

Rough is non-existent except for around the greens. If you are off the edge of a fairway you're hitting off gravel or hard pan.

Tees, greens and fringes are all about typical for Rustic, although the greens were slower than usual after the rain, but very hard, surprisingly. Sand before rain is compacted here, so you can guess how it is after the flood.

Hate to say it, but rack rate at the weekend does not look remotely like a fair price to pay for conditions at present.

Sunday round at Rustic ($67 walking) and was a little disappointed with the conditions, but that's only because the standard here is so high. Long day out there with a POP of around 5 hours, but it was a nice day so it wasn't too bad.

Fairways are very dry right now ... was hoping the last few days of rain would fix that but not the case. It's playable but thin. The rough is generally not too penal and sometimes you want a bit of that extra fluff under the ball after hitting so many on the thinner fairways. Tee boxes are okay but showing some wear, and the sand traps are a bit thin themselves - a few actually were more like caked mud after the rains.

The greens though are in great shape and were super tricky and fast today. Today was probably the first day that I really felt the greens at Rustic got the better of me, yet I know many talk about how tough the putting there is. Very tricky reads today with the pin placements and it was very easy to run chips off the green if you weren't careful.

Cart service was around all day which was very nice, and for some reason (frost delay I believe) we started on the back nine. I much prefer the regular routing at Rustic so that was a bit of a bummer but I'll survive. So all in all, it was a good day at Rustic but it's a ways off from wearing its best face. But it remains highly functional and a very intriguing and fun 18 always.

Walked the Blacks this afternoon 2/12/2018 in blustery wind conditions. POP was 4 hrs 5 min. Was joined by a nice 3some. Paid their $22.00 walking twilight rate. Great friendly staff at check-in.

Last review is spot on --greens were in very nice shape with an evidence of a past top dressing that did not effect putts. The greens rolled smoothly and were receptive for Rustic's standards. Rating the greens a 8/10.

Tees nice and level and green. Cut perfectly. Rated 8/10.

The rough around the greens is beautiful, green and lush and maybe the highlight of the course--8.5/10.

The rough just outside of the fairways really is dry and in bad shape--a lot of clumpy, dry and even dirt hardpan areas. Rated 5/10

The fairways are thin and mostly dry with some patches of lushness here and there. Pray for more rain in the area. Rated 5.5/10

Was in greenside bunker just left of number 3 that was raked and compact.

I love the challenge of Rustic--today I was everywhere so it brought me to my knees(especially in today's breeze)!--highly recommended!

Played 2-8-18 afternoon walking for $22 and finishing in a little over 5 hours. Tees were in good shape as usual, semi-lush and mostly level. Fairways were in descent shape, a yellow-green color with good lies and a lot of roll out. Rough is Rustic rough, which means it sucks along fairways and is nice and lush around the greens. Was not in any bunkers but they looked okay. Greens had a very light top dressing but still rolled smooth with medium/fast pace, and a little firm. Great walking twilight deal, but 5 hours is just way to long to play a round of golf.
