Played 10-11-16 as a single for $29 walking on there late day rate teeing off at 12:40 and finishing at 3:50. Tee boxes on the front side were level and semi- lush, tee boxes on the back side had just been aerified. Fairways were in good shape, mostly green with some brown/yellow areas and a little thin but I never had a bad lie. Rough along the fairways is pretty much gone with it being mostly dirt with some dead yellow grass mixed in. Rough around the greens is very thick and lush with some clumpy areas. Was in one greenside bunker that was thin and firm with a lot of rocks in it. Greens were rolling very nice, medium/fast with an occasional bump from poorly repaired pitch marks, and semi-firm. For early fall the course in in real good shape.

Back out to Rustic this Sunday teeing off with my boys at 8:50am. POP was good at around 4:15...we waited maybe 3 times all day, and were never pushed. The course is in pretty decent shape. There were still some signs of aeration, mostly in the rough around the greens. I moved plugs away from my ball a few times. Tee boxes are lush and flat. Fairways are mostly green, but also have some browning thin spots. I wouldn't call them lush, but still nice to hit from and you get tons of roll. I was in a couple of the waste bunkers and it's a bit thin, but definitely playable. The greens were in nice shape, and running quick at around a 10.5 on the stimp. They have gone back to their normal firmness, with mid/long irons releasing a bit. As always, I repaired a few extra ball marks on each green, but they held lines well and we made quite a few putts. The beverage cart came around at least 3 times, which was nice. We had a nice lunch and a beer to cool off after the hot round, which hit the spot. I'll be back next Sunday...I can't get enough of Rustic.

Back to my home course Sunday morning, 9/18, after a long stretch of avoiding the heat playing in Oxnard. It was nice to be back, and I was very happy to see Rustic included on the Golf.com Top 100 courses you can play list! I think it totally deserves it.

POP was around 4:10. It was very warm yesterday, and the course is showing signs of the heat. The fairways are a bit thin right now, which means tons of roll out. Many brown areas mixed with green, but nice lies were to be had everywhere. No problems getting the club through the turf. The rough is a mixed bag a this point. Most is thick and lush, but there are many patchy areas that can provide some funky lies. Tee boxes were flat and level with good coverage, even on the par 3's. The greens are in great shape, running around 10 on the stimp and very smooth. It seems like they've been putting a lot of water on the greens lately, because I experienced much less release compared to normal. I played well, so I found myself repairing a lot of deep divots, which is a bit unusual for Rustic...but I'm not complaining! Putts were dropping from everywhere, so they're definitely holding lines well.

Overall, Rustic is in pretty good shape for the end of summer, and it will just get better as the temps start to drop. I'll be there often, especially now during aeration season. Definitely recommend.

Played here today with the LA Golf Group. Not too busy out there with NFL Week 1 kicking off. We had two groups starting at 11:00, and we never caught anyone in front of us with a relaxed 4+ hour pace. $60 to walk seems excessive for the course right now. The course is very similar to the last time I played there earlier in the year. Very dry, but playing better than it looks. Tee boxes inconsistent, but never had problem finding a good place to tee it up. Fairways provided a lot of roll-out, with tight/dry lies ranging from very firm to surprisingly soft underneath. Rough pretty much gone along fairways as they just kind of fizzle into the desert. Better growth around greens, but still fairly spotty. As usual, the collars were softer than the greens, which always bugs me, but they were generally in good shape with super tight lies to either putt or chip from easily. Greens firm and rolling well at medium speeds. Hard to make significant ball marks, so that helps provide some nice putting surfaces. Greens are definitely the best part of the course right now. Bunkers with some pebbles, but decent to play from. Noticed very few rakes around, so what up with that? Overall, an enjoyable experience with a relaxed pace on a not-so-busy Sunday afternoon at Rustic. Water coolers had cold water, cart girl came by a few times. Course definitely looks and feels very ragged around the edges these days, though it's still a fun change of pace to play such a different style course for SoCal. Don't mind coming out here once or twice a year, though I'd prefer to get a better deal than weekend rack.

I played here yesterday and overall the course is in great shape. It's a really enjoyable track with some strategic holes, especially on the front 9.

Greens and fairways are in great shape. I did find the greens a little slow but we teed off at 6:30am so I assume they would have been somewhat faster in the afternoon.

The rough is a little bare in spots but that would really be my only complaint. It was also quite foggy for the first few holes making it tough to see the greens. I'm new to the area so not sure if that is normal or not. Something to consider though if you're teeing it up early.

Played here yesterday with 3 others at 7:30am. We got right out and finished in 4.5 hours. The course is in very nice shape right now for this time of year and with all the heat we were all pleasantly... Continue »

Played here yesterday with 3 others at 7:30am. We got right out and finished in 4.5 hours. The course is in very nice shape right now for this time of year and with all the heat we were all pleasantly surprised. Sure there are some dry areas but for the most part they are doing a great job keeping the course looking green and plush. I would give everything about a 7 out of 10 rating right now leaving them room to improve in the future.

Enjoyed a round here on 7/25 with a couple of friends. The course looks great despite the drought, but there were some areas especially dry or hard-packed. The greens and tee box were in great condition. Fairways in good conditions (short and relatively fast).

I did have an issue with the cart girl. Or, in this case, the cart guy - a middle-aged man who didn't seem to happy to be out there. We had waved him by once. Second time around, maybe around the 13th or 14th, he stopped and asked us if anyone had left a club behind. I realized that I had left a sand wedge a couple holes back. He didn't seem too friendly about it and asked (in a fairly serious tone) if there was a finder's fee. That threw me off a little...and I was appreciative, so I figured I'd get beer and give him a few bucks tip.

While I was selecting a drink, he says to me 'the last guy who's club I found gave me $20.' Again, not in a joking or nice way at all. I'm fairly new to the game and certainly had never been in this situation before, but I thought to myself 'I'm not tipping you $20 to because you're giving me my club back, especially with your crappy attitude.' I chose my beer, paid (with a few bucks tip) and walked back to my cart.

As he drove off, my friends thought that that was a very strange situation. Maybe I would've given him a straight tip up front, but with his attitude, I decided not to. There's a side of me that thinks a heartfelt thank you would suffice. Because he had such a sour attitude AND essentially solicited a tip to guilt me into giving him one, I left with a not-so-good impression (although everyone else was great). My buddies (both long-time golfers) were thrown off as well - both said they wouldn't have tipped the guy at all given how he approached us. And they are great tippers. Thankful I got the club back but why the attitude and passive-aggressive solicitation?

I realize most of my review has to do with this lost club experience - my apologies. Felt like I had to share the experience. I really did enjoy the track (my second time playing it) and it was a great day. I'd certainly play there again...and will keep a closer eye on my clubs next time. Cheers.

The course was in great shape, tee boxes were in great shape, greens were a little slower than I expected but rolled true. There were a couple unrepaired ball marks but what are you gonna do that late in the afternoon? Bunkers were great, rough was fine, and course overall wasn't as dry as I thought it would be in the summer. Well worth the hour plus drive to play.

Only real complaint I could make is that the grass at the range was a little sparse. Can't wait to play again.
