Played 3-23-16 first out as a single walking in 2 1/2 hours using the birdie card for $26. Tee boxes were in very nice shape, lush and level. Fairways were in nice shape mostly good lies with an occasional thin spot. Rough was mostly in descent shape with some bare areas here and there. Was in two green side bunkers on 7 and 17 both of which had thin sand and hard underneath. Greens were in great shape rolling very smooth and fast. They were punching some of the large aprons around the greens while I was playing ( 6,12,16,17) don't know if they are going to do all of them.

Walked the blues Sunday 3/20 at 8:40am with Mr. Bugs and a nice gentleman, Kyle, who had never played Rustic before. Normally not a big deal, but the fog was thick and had to 'hit and hope' you found your ball. I was surprised all of the groups before us had made it out. I can only imagine how thick it was at 7:30am. I found myself caddying for Kyle the first 4 holes, giving him sight lines and showing him the gps maps from Golfshot. Couldn't let him flail away in the fog! It finally lifted on 5 and turned into a beautiful day.

The course is in great shape. Fairways are greening up, but they're still firm and adding lots of yardage to your drives. Tee boxes are nice and green. They were a little shaggy for my taste, but not an issue. The rough was spectacular. Thick and consistent and around 3 inches. Very penal if you got a bad lie. The greens were great, and diabolical, as always. Very firm and rolling 11 on the stimp. Downhill/down canyon putts were closer to 12. You have to play to the front number most of the time, because even sand wedges will release.

Overall, it was a great day with great day conditions...the eagle on 9 didn't hurt things, either. I'd have to say I love me some Rustic Canyon.

Walked the Blacks Monday 3/14/2016 with my buddy Pedro and a nice single Sam(who played the blues and was probably in his 70's walking)--very inspiring! We paid $25.00 which is their standard twilight rate and our POP was 3 hours 45 minutes. The greens here on my home course are probably the nicest I have seen them in quite some time. Very quick, slick, true maybe running around an 11. Very few ballmarks and the few that we saw were fixed. I would rate the greens a 8.5-9/10--beautiful shape highlight of the course. The tees were not far behind rated an 8/10---incredible lush teeing grounds at Rustic---looks like they have been putting a lot of effort into the tees and greens. Tees were super lush and mostly all level--some divots on the par 3's but most filled with sand--rated an 8/10. The fairways are still on the thin side but there are some spots that you can see some improvement. You get a ton of roll--rated 5/10. Was not in any bunkers so can't comment on them. Just make sure you know if you are in a blue staked bunker which denotes a waste bunker or a bunker with a rake which of course is greenside--there are many bunkers and each one might be different. Rough is thick around some green complexes and dry around most of the fairways 6/10. We played with no wind of the first 11 holes and then the wind picked up some on the back. The 500 yd par 4 14th hole carrying the ravine was a hoot with 10 mph wind in our face---hit a good ball and still had 203yds in. Very challenging back nine with 4 tough par 4's as well as challenging green complexes gives some teeth to this great course. Recommended if you are up for thinner fairways at present time as well as a really great short game test.

Played Rustic 2/29/16 on a perfect day. It is always a joy to play this place. No homes, very walkable, greens are great and VERY challenging. It is difficult to get the ball close to the flags due to all the undulations in the greens. The pace was a little slow on this day due to a slow group in front but what the heck, it was a pleasure being out there so we did not mind. Overall the course is in nice shape for this time of year and if you can manage to keep the ball below the hole on all greens then you should have a stress free day for the most part.

Played here today with sixpez, sent off around 12:10 by ourselves for $25 walking rate. I played the black tees. POP was good and we finished in just under 4:30. Conditions are pretty good overall, although mixed all throughout the course.

Tee boxes are excellent with great coverage of lush green grass. Fairways are thin, dormant/dead with varying degrees of coverage. Some of the rough is overseeded and extremely lush, while other areas are just scruffy dormant grass. Bunkers are hard to judge because so many are considered waste areas, but they all seemed to have rocks in them. After our round Keith saw a notice posted that said they've adopted a local rule that rocks can be removed from the bunkers. The greens were smooth and fast, especially downhill. They are firm but held full shots fairly well, although not on 18 (one of the best approach shots I hit all day, using a U-wedge, landed pin high and still ran out about 40 feet).

Overall conditions are very playable and I simply love the course. It was a lot of fun to walk, too. If I lived closer I would play here all the time.

Itslikeimsayin and I went out here today to take advantage of their great $25 twilight walking rate starting at noon before it gets pushed back to 1:00 next month. Booked a 12:40 time, which was first available after their weekly skins game group at 11:30. There was only a couple groups in that skins game, so we saw the first tee wide open and they let us out much earlier than our time. We ultimately caught up to the groups, but we never had to wait too much and the overall pace was good. The course is in okay shape for winter. The tee boxes were overseeded and were mostly quite lush and nice. The fairways and most sections of rough were completely dormant with firm turf and tight lies. Around the greens, the rough was very thick, lush and green. The ball tended to nestle in between big tufts of grass, so it made for some tough recovery shots. The bunkers were decent. Just a lot of little pebbles in with the sand. However, I did notice a sign outside the clubhouse after we finished noting that they've adopted the local rule that stones can be removed within bunkers penalty-free. The greens and collars were in good shape. Firm, but not overly firm, and the collar areas seemed to be just the right amount of firmness. Putting through the collars was very smooth and consistent. The greens rolled well at medium speeds, with the occasional bump or old ball mark in the way. This was my third time at Rustic and it's a course I enjoy. The links style is not something I prefer to play all the time, but it's fun to mix it up every once in awhile and this is the best SoCal has to offer for that style. It's a course that always proves to be more challenging than I think it will be. With the fairways and rough being dormant, it made the already tough sight lines even more vague, so that added some challenge off the tees I thought. Otherwise, it's on and around the greens that will usually get you here. One last note is I played the Hanse tees this time, which is a combo set that utilizes the black, blue and white for a total yardage of around 6,300. On the front nine, I found it to be a great mix and good fit for my game. On the back, I felt it neutered the two most interesting par-4s (11 and 14) by playing from the whites. It's still probably the best tee set for me, though, and I would likely choose it again over solely the blues or whites.

Played today with mid-morning tee time. It took us about 5 hours to play 18. It was very windy today. I noticed when we checked in at the pro shop that they expect windy conditions today. Notice was posted if you decided to play in windy conditions that they will no longer issue wind checks if you later decide it is too windy to play. We played today because we had a rain check from a previous round when the course was closed due to lightning during our round. It looks like City of Moorpark and the golf course has not received much rain lately. Fairways were very dry and the grass was mostly yellow. You can still play it just that the fairways were very hard and firm. The tee boxes has decent grass to hit off it. There are plenty of hazards like dry creeks here on the course. The greens were still in great shape. With the greens being very dry, they were very firm and fast. The fringe around the greens has a lot of repaired divot marks and were painted green to hide these divots. Golf carts have GPS in them, which makes it nice to have. I like playing here except when it is very windy and cold. Most of the fairways are very wide.

Played Monday 12/28/15 with a gift card from xmas--let out as a single at 11:05am first mid day tee time with a nice single Wally who just played the 1st nine. Walked the blues. Frost delay-letting groups out on back nine only. POP was brutal but its the holidays. Last review spot on--the greens are the highlight of the course---very little ballmarks--putting nice and smooth and quick---would venture to say around a 10.5 or so on the stimp. Level tee boxes in good shape. The fairways are painfully dry and are running forever. Very thin lies that you must clip just right. Was not in any sand or waste bunkers. Great staff--nice twilight rates---need major rain here.

Played Tues. Super cold morning....No wind on the driving range, odd... Had to start on the Back Nine as is common this time of year, some frost delays at times. Holes 10,11 and 13 were all into a pretty strong, cold breeze! The rest of the day the winds calmed down quite a bit and the sun was out all day and warming. Excellent day. Tee's and Greens are in super shape! Fairways are dormy as they should be for this time of year with little or no water so there is plenty of roll on them. Tight lies are everywhere and require good contact with the ball to prevent sweeping! Greens.....It seems the par 3's were holding most shots with just a minimal of roll but the rest of the day It was "links" style to the rest of them. This is a tough test of Golf in my humble opinion and requires some creativity and patience. Always a challenge but I will wait until spring to return.
