Played twilight 1st group out this afternoon 6/18 with my buddy Steve and a single that joined us. Fairways beautiful best I have seen them lush and good lies. Tees lush and level and in good shape. Rough healthy along the fairways lush. Greens lush and slow for this golfers taste but in decent shape holding shots nicely. Fringes soft and in great shape. Pace of play 4 hours 20 minutes today...thought it would be worse day after the Open so not too bad....rates for walking were increased by $3.00 and its now $27.00 to walk at twilight.

A very enjoyable lay-out. Course conditions were very good. Huge greens with unbelievable fringe. The fringe, which is as closely mown as the greens, is sometimes 20 feet wide. You don't see fringe like this in Southern California. Brutal rough surrounding bunkers. Saw a couple of bunkers with Prickly Pear Cactus in them. Staff was very friendly & accommodating. Good times.

Played 6-13. haven't played here in about four months so was looking forward to the round. the shape of the course did not disappoint. tee boxes lush and level with little divot damage on the par threes. fairways green and lush with good lies. the rough was the biggest surprise with fairway rough not that long but very lush and rough around bunkers and fairway hazards anywhere from six inches to two feet and thick. greens are rolling true and fast with not as much divot damage as in the past. liked the new tee box on thirteen. the extra yardage into and afternoon wind is going to make this hole a lot tougher.

We teed off today @ 7 and where done by 11. Course is in great condition. Tee boxes; fairways; greens all top notch. I really enjoy this course with 3 par 5's and 3 par 3's on the front. Having the ability to recover around the greens after an errant shot, is a real bonus with how nice they keep the areas around all the greens. Greens today were in wonderful shape and condition. Try the great tuna wrap in the restaurant if you have the time. Look forward to our next round in the coming months.

Played Sunday, 6/4 with my brother and nephew. I wrote a long review and somehow it didn't post—don't have the energy to do a full rewrite. Bottom line, it's in really nice condition all around. Greens might get faster but they are pretty fast right now. Rough can be diabolical. Very complete facility at a great price for the quality. This is my third time playing over the years and it grows on me each time. We were hooked up with a single to fill out the foursome. Kid was 14, skinny, about 5'7" and 108 lbs. (his estimate). He played the tips, probably averaged 275 on his drives, hit everything straight and got around the course in par. An amazing example of technique and finesse over muscle because he didn't seem to have any. Humbling, yet fun to watch. Good times.

Out on my home course this afternoon 5/29/12 twilight 2:10pm with a buddy. Played blue tees and had a nice swirling wind for most of the day. Have not been out here in the last 5 weeks due to green maintenance on 4/30. Greens have not completely healed yet back to their smooth form. Give the greens another week or two. Holding shots decently but had some bumpiness on putts. The fairways were in very nice shape as was the rough..lush and green. The tees were lush and in good shape. The major difference today was the rough and native grasses just around the waste bunkers. We are talking Bethpage Black US open rough...you have to step on your ball to find it....really adds more character and teeth to this course. Been playing here for years and have never seen the rough around the hazards like this...luckily I was not in any of it but it got my playing partner 3 times....Tough to hit a 300 yd drive like he did on #3 and #7 with great drives and have to play a lost ball penalty close to the green complexes...whew.. I know they have a qualifier here coming up and this is probably a feature that the course wants to add. Pace of play was just over 4 hours walking. $24.00 bucks to walk this course is a steal...probably why they are raising it a couple bucks come June 1st.

Played here Sunday morning. Terrific layout. Not too challenging, but allows for all kinds of different shots and strategies. Very walkable. The course isn't going to wow you with waterfalls and crazy terrain changes, but there is just something about the course that will bring me back.

Only negative was the marshall. Rushed our foursome a few times even though we always had at least a full hole between us and the group behind us and we finished in about 4.5 hours. They had a kids tournament later in the afternoon which I think they were nervous about starting on time. I ignored him, but it really angered one guy in our group. Only a small negative, I'll still be back.

Have been wanting to play this course for sometime and finally got there today. Even after the rain from last night, the course was in great condition. Fairways provided plenty of roll and the greens were outstanding. This golf course is just great. From the staff in the pro shop; maintenance; restaurant you cannot ask for a more enjoyable outing. In reading the previous reviews and looking at the pictures posted, I had overlooked that this course is a links course. My first impression was what a great site for a golf course. Once we got out on the course and began playing, we quickly learned what a great layout RC is and just how great a course it is. Playing this course gives you so many options to play the holes and opportunities to recover from errant shots into the greens. A great combination of holes both in distance and design. I have always liked courses with a 9 with 3 par 3's and 3 par fives, like the front has here. And what a great variety of holes they are. And the back 9 is equally as impressive. Truly a great stretch of holes that makes you feel sad when you reach 18 and know your round is finished. There is nothing boring about Rustic Canyon. In my opinion, all 18 holes provide you with a memorable round of golf. If you like to walk, the course is one that is well designed to do so. Personally, think you would enjoy the round of that much more if you did walk it. If you like to play golf and who on this site doesn't, then you owe it to yourself to play here. I am sure like myself, you will find the time to go back as often as possible. I envy those of you who are close to this area having not only Rustic Canyon but Moorpark CC and Tierra Rejada to play on a regular basis. Must be hard to decide which one to play, given that each one has it's own characteristics that set it apart from each other. You can read all the reviews and look at all the pictures but until you play this course for yourself, you will not really experience what a great golf course this is. I think all the GK'ers who play here just decide not too write reviews because they want to keep this one to themselves. And I can't blame them at all. Put this one on your list to play because you will not be disappointed at all.

I love this track. This style where you get lots of roll and can putt from about a mile out works well for me. Course is in great shape and about to be worked on more in another week or so. Greens are the name of the game here. Lightening quick and firm. Lob it in or easy bump and runs here. Course knowledge is huge here, but this place will make a 1st time visitor an easy returning client. Some adjoining fairways where you may need to watch out for another person's slice. Can't wait to get back here.
