Played Rustic mid-day 6/21. Course is dry at the beginning of many fairways where you will never be hitting shots unless you top the ball? The fairways where most play from were nice and for the most part you had enough grass underneath your ball. They had the mowers on the front nine fairways cutting the grass low. The greens were faster than the putting green and were in decent to good shape. Not as fast as I have seen Rustic greens but not super slow. You still want to stay below the pin here. The greens today were receptive to well struck iron plays. The waste bunkers can be brutal here and are firm. The tee boxes were well maintained and were all level for the most part. The native grasses between holes have grown up in some spots a good two feet and are nasty! The pins today were super tough(back left on #8, Back right on #7, extreme front on #5) and made for a great challenge at least on the front nine. The staff person this morning in the pro-shop was very professional but not very friendly. The wind swirled on several holes today...this is my home course and I miss it....love the challenge and I will be back...still one of the best courses around for your money.

Played on Sunday June 13th. Twilight during the Laker game. Course was empty, felt like we were the only ones out there. Finished in less than 4 hours. This is one of my favorite’s courses and only get more enjoyable every time i play it. Fun layout. Course is in good condition right now but the greens are a little beat up, lots of pitch marks and a little bumpy.

played 6-14-10 teed of at 6:05 done at 9:30. course is in good shape . greens are a little slower then normal but rolling true.only bad thing about them is pitch marks must have fixed at least 10 on each green.fairways are firm but not hard and sits nice. rough around greens is nice still a little rustic rough along fairways but most of that is gone. greens keepers are doing a great job keeping this course in good shape.for $39 to walk week day still one of the best value around.

Played on 5/28/10 in the am. Pace of play was excellent as we did not wait on the group ahead of us. Course is in good shape, but the greens are fuzzy, bumpy & slow right now. Cart girl came by only once during the round. A good track to walk, with only a couple of uphill stretches on the back nine.

However be warned greens have been recenlty puched. Putts roll very well considering the look of the greens. Some sand on the greens but overall not too bad.

this is the epitome of links golf in southern california...punishing bunkers, tight lies in the fairway, and a fringe that is better than most greens i putt on.
the course was in great shape, and they had the pins in IMPOSSIBLE places for a tournament right behind us. it was windy, it was long, it was difficult as all hell...and i love it.
probably a course you'd have to play half a dozen times to score well on and appreciate for all it's nuances. i literally got worked over by this course, and i'd go back in a heartbeat...2 hour drive be d%mn ed!
one tip: get very, very familiar with bump and run and putting on marble...and try stopping a ball on the hood of a buick before you go.

Always love my rounds at Rustic Canyon…even when it beats me up like today in the wind. Course was playing firm. Fairways were on the dry side but very playable as was the Rough. The Bunkers and Tee Boxes were mostly in good shape. But where this course shines right now is the Greens and Aprons. Beautiful! This is a links style course where over 50% of your play is going to take place on the massive aprons and greens. It’s a course where by the end of the round you are “mentally” exhausted because you have to continually visualize ALL shots and putts in detail to execute them properly. It’s a course where you need to be creative to play the contours of the fairways and greens. It’s simply a very unique golf experience I highly recommend.

I also played on 2/25 with the GKers. What a terrific event! It was a gorgeous day especially since it rained the day before. The course was quite challenging and it took me the whole front 9 to get the hang of the links course play. I did so much better on the back 9! The greens were fast and undulating--can't count how many times I rolled off with what I thought was a light stroke! Beautiful course in great condition with spectacular views all around. Would love to play here again!
