Played the terrific Simi Hills on Saturday for our GK Cup match along with Johnny, Mattias and Perry … played from the gold tees and had an absolutely great, beautiful day out with these fine gentlemen.

Following up on Johnny's review just now, can really not recommend Simi Hills right now enough. We were all gushing about the course conditions throughout the round, especially what you're getting for the same cost as an average city course right now.

It's safe to say, when Simi Hills is in its current shape, it's the Goose Creek of the SFV. Great conditions from tee to green, a helpful and enthusiastic staff, a challenging and engaging layout, and all at a price that feels like stealing. We walked the course for just $45, which is crazy value for this place.

Greens were in terrific shape, rolling true and consistently throughout the day at medium to medium-fast speeds. Nothing too tricked out on the Simi Hills greens - make a good stroke and you'll be rewarded. Tee boxes were all fine, and the bunkers were in good shape with workable sand. Fairways were a joy to play from and the rough was long enough to make you think twice about club selection in some areas, but comfortable in others.

POP was good throughout the day and we were rarely waiting, and even more rarely pushed by the group behind us. Cart service even was around 2-3x throughout the round so it was really a pretty picture-perfect day all around.

Once again, if you're really into a great course right now at supreme value, Simi Hills is the call to make. You won't regret it one bit.

Great time yesterday getting together with Mattias, roarksown1 and kassper7 for our GK Cup Team Match at Simi Hills yesterday.

For only $45 rack rate to walk teeing off at 9:24am on a Saturday this place is well worth the green fee. Golf course was in great shape. Greens soft, mostly smooth and medium speed. They will be hosting the Simi Valley City Championship starting June 1st so I imagine they will be much faster then. Fairways lush with great lies all day. Rough, about an inch higher than the fairways with a blend of kikuyu and bermunda was moderately challenging. My guess is they will start growing that up soon for the coming city championship. Tee boxes in good shape, we played the gold tees, by far the most popular so they were chewed up a bit on par 3’s. On the par 4’s they had many of the gold tees back on the blacks (thankfully not hole 8) and were all in good shape. I did not find one sand trap all day. Remarkable! … so I can’t comment on them. I did not hear any complaints from my playing partners about the bunkers although.

We had breakfast before the round. Reasonably priced yet proportions were small. Decent food.

On course service was excellent and marshals did a good job to keep it moving. We finished on busy day in under 5 hours.

Played 5-1-19 early morning for $35 walking as a single for first seven holes than joining a three some on eight and finishing in a little over three hours. Tee boxes were in good shape, nice coverage, cut tight with a little divot damage on some of the par threes. Fairways were very nice and green with good roll out and great lies. Rough was not to long and mostly in good shape with some thin areas. Was in one greenside bunker that was nicely groomed and had very soft brown sand. Greens were in great shape, holding shots like darts and rolling very smooth with medium/fast pace. Overall course is in really good condition right now and well worth playing.

I played here Sunday, March 17. Decent course conditions from tee to green. $45 Walking at about 10:00 a.m. POP was 5 hours, maybe a hair under.

I arrived at 9:40, checked in quickly, hit some putts, chips, and quick range.

Nice, large practice putting green right near the clubhouse. The chipping area was small and looked like an afterthought wedged in a grassy area next to 10 tee. The range is behind 9 green, a small walk across a creek and up a hill. It's hitting off of mats to a mostly dirt range with lots of well marked targets. The range balls were decent enough.

I walked, but the others in my group rode and there was a decent gps in the carts.

Greens: receptive, soft, and rolling true. I would say the speed was medium fast, perhaps around 9 or 10. Hardly any ball marks and the course was busy, so I would say thanks to those who fixed them.

Fairways were nice. It's all kikuyu grass mixed with Bermuda grass. They gave you good roll out and were easy to hit from. Thanks to all the recent rain the ground under was soft enough to cushion heavy shots.

The rough was basically the same mixture of grass as the fairways with lots of weeds mixed in especially as you got further away from the fairway. It wasn't very deep and not really too penal.

Sand was pretty good in all the bunkers that I saw. Maybe some hard pan under a thin layer of groomed sand in a few bunkers. I wasn't in any, but the others found a few and did not seem to have any trouble.

We played a little forward at the Silver tees. They were all in good condition and level.

We saw the beverage cart a few times, but I don't think we bought anything. There is a key deposit and you can retrieve your money after or get a pitcher of beer at the end. The clubhouse was pleasant enough and we enjoyed a couple of beers. It was decent and I will be happy to come back.

Played on a very windy Saturday. Front 9 pace was not good, clocking in at close to 3 hours, but we made up a bunch of that on the back where we never waited to hit. Had not played here in many, many years and I found the course overall to be in excellent shape and a fun layout. Fairways had grass and offered good lies, the rough made you want to be in the fairway. But I was kinda blown away by the greens. Some of the best I've seen on a public course. They were quick, smooth and held approach shots well. Very impressed. There is even a GPS system in the carts. My only comment-worthy reservation would be the bunkers. Some were thin layers of sand over more compact material, others where quite fluffy. But some had larger rocks as part of the sand that could definitely gouge a wedge. But all things considered, it was an excellent day and I am looking forward to playing here again on a calmer day.

Played here Wednesday 9/12 with an 8:30am tee time. Pace of play was a bit slow with several slow foursomes in front of us. It took us 4 hours 40 minutes to complete the round. But it didn't seem that long. The weather was perfect: High 70's with a little breeze. I really like this course. It has a lot of variety, with some interesting holes. The overall course is in very good shape. Tee boxes are fine. The fairways are mostly lush, with some areas that are thin or somewhat bare. But, for the most part, if you are in the fairway you will have a very good lie, with plenty of cushion under your ball. The rough is spotty on the fringes of the fairways. Some areas are quite penal, with others being not penal at all. I was in two greenside bunkers. They had nicely raked, firmly packed sand. They were easy to hit from. The greens were running medium fast, and were very smooth. They were great. They're going to be punching the greens next Monday and Tuesday, so you'll only have a few more days to enjoy the current conditions. I highly recommend playing here before next Monday.

Had a really fun little Sunday round at Simi Hills this weekend. Very spontaneous decision after staying the night before up in Thousand Oaks and called them in the morning with no trouble getting out as a single with another local gentleman who was in the same boat. We played the gold tees and got a cart for I believe around $60. Simi Hills is always a fun track to play for me and this round was no exception. It's a fairly flat front nine with 2-3 exceptions, while the back is a little narrower, little tighter, always seems to be going slightly up or downhill, and has a few holes that can destroy a good round! Current course conditions under the intense Simi Valley heat seem to be holding up pretty darn well. Fairways have lots of green to them, but you're not going to be shocked to see some dried out areas as well and some GUR from over-watering. The rough is a bit thicker but easy to play out of in most cases, and there are a ton of mulch areas that are not a lot of fun to hit from so avoid those. Bunkers were nice in some places, but grainy in others, but always playable, and the tee boxes are pretty well maintained. Greens were rolling very nicely and probably played just slightly better than they looked. But overall they're in good shape with not too many ball marks to contend with on the day, and were rolling at a medium-fast speed and holding well struck approach shots very well. There are no super tricked out greens at Simi Hills, but there are some with some pretty severe slopes to them like #5. You'll survive it. Always nice to get back out to Simi Hills and have a good round so I'm glad I made the trip. I suspect you will too if you go.

I have to say that NOW is the time to play Simi if you are looking for outstanding conditions. Everything about this public track makes you feel like you are playing something private and special. Hey it's not Valecia CC but it definetly is worth the money and time. They are doing a great job in making this place a course to play and enjoy. Why can't places like Rancho Park golf course get it together like Simi. I definetly recommend here right now!

Played yesterday, June 21, 2018 -- and was mightily impressed. It had been some time since playing Simi Hills last, so there were many surprises in store for me. The newly renovated interior of the cafe was in excellent taste with a new bar and tables. But most importantly was the condition of the course. The fairways, greens and tee boxes were in truly excellent shape. Not an irregularity -- no bumps, patches, dry areas on the green. They were simply pristine. True rolls -- pick a line and the ball obeys. When last here, most of the lake beds were dry. Not only are they filled, but small fountain spouts sprout from the water, and the surrounding landscaping is manicured and in bloom. Give a shout out to the greenskeepers. Their conscientous care shows on every fairway. It's as if everything they do is a labor of love and makes me wonder if everyone has a financial stake in the course.
