First time out here in 10 months walked the Oak Tees(72.8-128-6806) joined by my buddies Pedro and Matt yesterday afternoon 10/7/2017 teeing off at 2:30pm twilight finishing at 6:35pm for a POP of 4 hrs 5 minutes not waiting on one shot on a very hot October day with temps around 93 degrees at teeoff. Had a weird swirling wind for the first 7 holes or so that died down on the back nine. It was so beautiful today on the back nine--we saw a total of 2 groups and felt like we owned the course and had the place to ourselves. We paid their standard twilight walking weekend rate of $27.00.

Their is a new management company that took over from York management in June. I think you should check Soule out as this is the nicest that I have seen the course after a hot summer.

The fairways were surprisingly lush with most lies being very green and good with good coverage. Very few problem areas. Rating the fairways a solid 7.5/10.

The greens were in pretty nice shape. No bounces rolling very true. I thought based on the way they looked that they were going to be really fast but they rolled around medium speed. I fixed a couple extra ballmarks per hole. Tournament players that went out in the morning in front of us must not wanted to bend down and take the time to fix their ballmarks. Greens rated a 7/10.

The tees were lush but a couple of them need leveling here. Rated 6.5/10

Was in 3 greenside bunkers that contained a firmer packed darker brownish sand. All bunkers were raked. Rated 6.5/10

The rough and edges around the fairways were rated a 6.5/10--could be lush, spotty or just OK.

If the management can keep the fairways and greens at least to this standard they are going to do great. I was impressed. They are also doing a complete renovation of the clubhouse which was empty. Looked like they replaced some mats on the range.

Great Gil Hanse layout--fun, great prices and great views.

For sure recommended at this time.

Got out Sunday morning (7/15) before 8, but after what appeared to be a men's club group of 16. What followed was a 5 hour round. Walked up to #10 (par 3) to find a group on the tee box and 7 on the green.....never saw a Marshall nor a beverage cart, both were sorely needed. Apparently an ownership change at Soule. No merchandise to be found in the pro shop. They did replace the worn out driving range mats. Course in good condition, but have no desire to experience another 5 hour round anytime soon. Gonna head out to the Oxnard courses for lower temps and faster pace of play.

Played 6-29-17 late morning with Nickesquire for $19 walking and getting around the course in a little over 4 1/2 hours. Tee boxes were mostly level with good coverage and minimal divot damage on three pars. Fairways were in descent shape mostly lush with some thin and dried out areas. Rough is not much of a factor, cut just a little higher than fairways and mostly thin with some bare areas. Bunkers had nice dark side that was a little thin but still descent to hit from. Greens were in good shape semi-firm and rolling medium/slow with an occasional bump.

Walked the Oak tees (6806/72.8/128) with RGM2525 in slightly more than 4.5 Hours for their $19 twilight rate. The weather was excellent for golf, sunny, fairly calm & around 80. This is an average difficulty course to walk, not very hilly, no significant elevation changes or long hikes between any holes. The large lake between holes #1 & #10 is almost full again, which makes for a nice visual. The Poa Annua tees are generally flat and were mowed close, nice to play from. The fairways are semi lush & firm with good coverage. The rough is thinner, hardpan in spots and not overly tall. In many places there was very little difference in being in the fairway or the rough. The sand traps were decently maintained with fine, dark sand. The combination Bent & Poa Annua greens putted medium speed with a normal amount of ball marks. They are firm, but still held approach shots well & putted nicely once I got the speed down. The customer service was excellent. No drink cart, but plenty of water stations on the course. I really like this layout, it fits my eye. Only a few homes nearby, just surrounded by hills and away from things on most holes. Recommended, I would play here often "but for" the drive.

Worth the drive! Great conditions, great pace of play. Challenging and cannot beat the price of green fees. Don't miss this gem just down the street from ojai resort

Played 12-28-16 with GDR23, early afternoon in a little over 4 hours with a lot of waiting on the front side and a little smoother on the back. Tee boxes were in descent shape, a little thin but mostly level. Fairways were pretty dry with some bare areas and mostly thin dormant lies. Rough was about the same as fairways with some larger bare areas. Was in one greenside bunker that was in okay shape with firm sand. Greens were in pretty nice shape, a little soft but rolling nice at medium speed. Fun layout but this course really needs water.

Rode the Oak tees this afternoon 12/28/2016 with RGM2525 in about 4 hrs 10 min riding through several groups on the back nine on a very busy beautiful mid 70's day with no wind. We actually met up at Moorpark CC and the winds were so bad 35-40mph that they were swaying the medal lights and street signs so we decided to trek up north to Ojai. We were joined by a nice twosome for the front nine and we played the back nine by ourselves.

Not much has changed since I played here 8 days ago.

Greens are the highlight of the course--they are rolling around a 9 on the stimp, putting fairly pure with minimal bounces--saw more divots I fixed today than last week. Greens showing some signs of soft spike marks. Rating 7/10

Tees all level--some divot damage on the 3 par's but not to bad. Semi-lush tee boxes. Rated 6.5/10.

Was in one fairway bunker that contained nice compact raked sand easy to hit out of.

Fairways are basically either thin packed dormant grass, some mud areas and some dirt areas. Need a lot of H20. Rated 3.5/10

Rough is dry, thin and not in very good shape. Rated 3.5/10.

I really like the layout and weather--currently you can get some great GN online prices--but if you can't land a good deal online I might wait for spring to play Soule.

Where does one go to avoid the wind? Ojai. Rode the Oak Tees earlier today 12/20/16 in 3 hrs 50 minutes on a GN Hot Deal Time with a $10.00 off promo code. Ended up paying only $3.49--that's my type of golf! Weather was postcard 71 degrees with no wind. Let out way earlier than my tee time by the nice staff. Waited some on back nine behind a skins game that had 6 players in a group holding up groups? Anyway.

Greens were in great shape! Rolling probably a 9.5 on the stimp, holding irons like darts. Putting pure--fixed an extra couple ballmarks--highlight of the course. Rated a 8/10.

Tees were in good shape--lush teeing grounds, mostly all level--some problem areas with divots but not to bad--rated 7/10.

Was in one bunker that contained brownish softer sand that was easy to splash out of. Rated 7/10.

The fairways are very poor, thin and dry. They just plain need water. Rated 4/10.

The rough is very thin, clumpy at times and very dry. Rated 4/10.

Love the layout here and with a $3.49 round with no wind it was a no brainer even knowing going in that the fairways and rough was going to be dry.

Soule is suffering with a lack of water...Tees are marginal, fairways super thin or dirt, rough almost non-existent, sand is mostly dirt.

The greens are exceptional.

Still a good track with amazing views and a great staff and facility.

Lets all hope this winter puts the drought behind us.
