Walked the Orange Tees this afternoon 7/20/19 for super twilight with my buddy Matt. Our POP was a brisk 3 hours 30 minutes not waiting one shot. Weather was low 80's with a slight breeze--perfect scoring golf weather. Had a great time. Nice starter let us out 30 minutes early. This is the best condition I have ever seen Soule Park in. After the round we commented that $16.00 for super twilight with the conditions close to a 9/10 on mostly all areas of the course was like stealing candy from a baby.

Fairways were spectacular--palm springs nice--ball sitting up perfectly. Lush grass throughout, not a bare spot to be found. Rating these a 9 out of 10. Check out my Instagram post where I snapped a couple fairway pics.

Greens were smooth, medium to fast paced, held shots beautiful. Rating 8/10.

Tees lush and beautiful 8/10.

The rough and fringes near the green were beautiful. 9/10.

Was not in any sand bunkers but they have put beautiful sand in all the bunkers here.

Super peaceful vibe, great layout and staff, unbelievable prices and conditions. Wish I was not an hour away. Highly recommended--go play it now.

Came back to Soule Park two weeks after my last round. I thoroughly enjoy this track. Not much to add to my last review. The course is in excellent shape from tee to green. Played at 9am Monday, 5/13. The green fee of $27 to walk this course as a senior is a steal. If you get a chance to play this course, don't miss it. It is nestled in between two mountain ranges. The quiet and bountiful nature surrounding this course makes it serene. And you'll be hard pressed to find a more enjoyable and fair test of golf than Soule Park. I ordered one of their breakfast burritos to take with me on the course. It was delicious. Play Soule Park now, it is a joy.

Played Soule Park on Tuesday, 4/30/19. Our twosome had a 10:30am tee time. We were paired with a single, who was great to play with. The weather was cloudy and cool, with little to no wind at all. It was quiet and peaceful with abundant wildlife. This course is a hidden gem! It was a complete blast to play. It has a nice variety of holes, with adequate challenge and scoring opportunities. Its' quiet, country setting - loaded with trees and surrounded by mountains, makes this a real get-away course. Currently, this course is in superb condition. The fairways have full coverage. They are nice and green and wonderful to hit from. The rough is a little spotty. Some areas are 3" deep, and others are bare. But for the most part, the rough is also in great shape, about 1 - 2" deep. I was in 2 greenside bunkers. They have abundant sand that was beautifully raked and a pleasure to hit out of. The greens were smooth and rolled well. They were very firm, but held shots with spin nicely. Due to the overcast and somewhat damp conditions, the greens were on the slowish side early in the round. By the afternoon they became quicker, medium to medium fast. Pace of play was right at 4 hours. After the third hole, we never waited on any shots. This course is in GREAT condition. The setting and layout make this a must play. If I didn't live an hour and twenty minutes from the course, I would play this a lot. Highly recommended

Played 4-26-19 early morning as a single walking for $32 and finishing in about 2 hours and 15 minutes. A lot of the tee boxes have been re-sodded and they were all open except the back tee on 9. The boxes were in good shape and level with good coverage and minimal divot damage on par threes. Fairways were in real nice shape, lush with good lies and descent roll out. Rough was in good shape and not to long with some minor bare spots the farther you got from the fairway. Was not in in bunkers but all all looked to be in good shape with white sand and nicely groomed. Greens were playing semi soft with medium speed and mostly smooth. New management is doing a great job, every time I come out here I see new improvements on the course.

In many ways my round at Soule Park was for me the perfect round of golf. Perfect weather, on a course you can walk for only $40 bucks on the weekend. The surrounding hills were enrobed in green and looking majestic. The course - very green - challenging but not hard so you can enjoy the company of the friends you came with without someone becoming sullen over their lost balls and dignity.

The greens hadn't yet completely healed from the aeration but we agreed that the little bit of slowness and bumpiness offset the difficulty of faster greens we might have faced - so nobody was bothered. Tee boxes were mostly fine but had to move my tee when I found myself standing in a depression a couple of time. Fairways were good and rough was thick - really thick in places - where, when trying to find a ball - the four of us had to set up one of those lines like they do when investigators are searching a forest for clues.

Soule Park is an easy place to have an enjoyable round of golf.

Played here for my first ever visit on 3/30 on a 10AM tee-time. Seeing Johnny's review from the week before and knowing I would be in the area to visit my partner, I made a tee-time online and invited my partner's father to join for what turned out to be an amazing day. The course was just as Johnny described and I thoroughly enjoyed it in almost every way. On top of it being a Chamber of Commerce day with weather, every aspect of the course and property was as expected.

Tee boxes: Good condition. Never really noticed any issues with the following: level ground, turf firmness, irregular turf conditions between the markers. Markers here aren't vastly variant in distances as this course is not overly long.

Fairways: Great condition. They were sparkling green and the ground for the most part offered fair to good lies for shots. There were a few areas that were wetter than normal and a couple of scalped turf, but overall I was impressed. A fair amount of roll when the sun really started shinning.

Rough: Pretty penal the further away from the fairway you ended up (of course). There were areas in the holes closest to the mountains in the front 9 where the ball easily disappeared. The entire course has rough of varying lengths that kept one humble.

Sand: I was only in one bunker (fairway) and it was in good shape with nice compact sand. The ones I looked at all had good sand and were raked.

Greens: Good condition. The color and condition wasn't quite what I expected but the roll seemed true enough on correctly read putts (of which I had one all day I felt proud of). The speed varied but ran in the fast-range all day. There were a fair amount of unfixed divots, but more importantly the greens on 10, 16, and 18 were already sanded, even though the alert said they wouldn't until 4/1 (guess they wanted to get a quicker start).

ETC: Basic carts with no GPS and not always a marker close for a shot determination. Course could certainly stand to pave a few more miles of cart path to help riders (though I understand a vast amount of people walk here too). Staff was very easygoing and friendly. Rates here seem more than fair. Restaurant was very good and staff here was also friendly. Ample parking lot and facilities had everything you needed without the extra frills. Pace today was only about 4 hours on a peak hour weekend so that should tell you everything you need to know about how things run here! Not a must-play but such a solid track in the shadow of Ojai Valley Inn that more than holds its own.

First off walking at 6:16 on a gorgeous Sunday morning, POP 3.5, but could’ve been faster as no one pushing me so I hit some extra balls. The weekend walking rate is $40 and for the all around value it can’t be beat. Customer service was fantastic. The Proshop wasn’t open so I headed out and paid at the turn. Keith epitomized the laid back nature of Ojai and had no problem with me paying after I had started. The course right now is something out of a movie. It was like taking a hike, but keeping score lol. The tee boxes are level and lush. Fairways were good, with some thin areas, rough same. The greens were ofcourse wet on the front, but dried out and were fast. Some greens didn’t hold shots as they are extremely sloped. This is my only complaint about this course is that some greens don’t hold shots and it’s difficult to get it close to the pin. The sand traps were amazing. Maintenance was out before me and had turned them and they were fantastic. White beach sand with zero rocks. Kudos to Ojai for putting out an affordable track. I highly recommend it right now even if you live further away. It is worth a two day trip to play Soule Park and the inn which Im playing Thursday lol.

The rise is real. The new management has done a fantastic job improving playing conditions and cleaning up a true hidden gem. Anyone who has played Soule Park Golf Course knows what a great layout it is and how affordable it is to play. Now add to it great playing conditions (which include new sand in all the bunkers), lush turf and fast, smooth greens and it’s easy to see why Greenskeeper.org users have voted Soule Park Golf Course “Most Worth The Green Fee” in Ventura County 2017 & 2018.

Teed it up yesterday with a Facebook friend Garth who invited me out to play with his outing group. I could not resist. It was raining in the morning but cleared up so take a look as some the photos I just posted. The golf course was going to originally punch the greens on March 4 & March 5 but that moved to early April. For March, although there are obviously some wet thin areas in the fairways, it was green, lush and beautiful. The only minor blemish are the tee boxes that could use a good cut and possibly a future project to make them more level.
It was 45 minute drive from Thousand Oaks that I’d gladly make anytime. I feel this golf course is must play if you are in the area and can see its popularity growing very quickly. The scenery of the Ojai Valley and surrounding is gorgeous. Highly Recommended.

Had a playing lesson this morning 2/19/2019. Cooler morning with beautiful skies. Crowded course this morning for a Tuesday morning. I am impressed with the new management. Since I have played here last they continue to make improvements to areas just in front of tees, around trees, etc. The greens were in great shape. They look quicker than they putt. They putted very smoothly. Would say maybe a 10 on the stimp. Very few ballmarks but some foot traffic around some of the holes. Gil Hanse architect of this beauty created huge putting surfaces here with some undulation. Staff can put the pins in 6-7 different locations to challenge lag putting here. Greens held shots like darts and were in very good shape. Highlight of the course. Rated 8/10. All bunker complexes have newer white sand put in within the last year. My student was in bunkers on 12 and 16 and I was in the bunker on 17--they are all in great shape. Soft sand that you need to thump. Rated 8/10. The fairway grass is slowly coming back into shape. I saw more green grass. There is still some underlying mud and wet spots from the recent rains. In the coming weeks I can see the grass really growing in and getting better. Current fairway rating 6/10. Tees for the most part were OK. They should look at leveling the par 5 5th hole tee box. Rough was muddy and spotty but in not too bad of shape. Mowers were out cutting the grass this morning. Student and I really enjoyed the day here. Great staff, great prices, nice greens and sand conditions. Fairway conditions will be improving each day with all the rains we received. Recommended.
