Still a good track with amazing views and a great staff and facility.

I played here on Monday, walking for $19. Tee off was about 2:15 p.m. and with a couple that joined me, we barely finished before dark at about 6:30 p.m. The course is in typical muni shape. The tees are nice and level. Fairways and rough are a little dry, with some thin or bare areas. That is good for some roll out. The sand was thin. It's a medium, brown color and very fine and dense. Not very easy to hit out from a greenside bunker, but okay from a fairway bunker. I like the greens. They rolled medium fast and without any real bumpiness. I got a little practice time in on the range. They had moved the practice tees up to the grass, so it was nice. The range balls suck, though. Good rate and nice beers on tap.

Second stretch of the bday rounds for me. Rode the Orange Tees this morning 9/6/2016 at 10am with my buddy Matt on their $15.00 mandatory cart bday special. POP 3 hours 50 minutes taking our time--nobody in front or behind us the whole round. Weather was perfect low 80's slight 5 mph breeze. Not been up to Soule all this summer. Very friendly staff. Fairways--very lush portions of most fairways in landing zones--at times to lush in some spots and then you had some pretty bare dirt lies in other spots. They have completely let the 1st 100-125 yds or so of most fairways go to just plain dirt--these areas are not in play. Overall for how hot it gets up here I would say they are doing an average job. Rated 6/10 Greens--Man after playing the Lakes course I could not adjust today on how slow the greens were. Don't get me wrong they are VERY healthy and green with not that many ballmarks and I think are in good shape. Thinking they have to keep them long and a little shaggier due to the heat up here. Hit the putts hard here at present time. Rated 7/10 Tees--Many teeing grounds were un-level and you did have to hunt for a level stance but almost could always find one. The tees were lush and in good shape. Rated 7/10 Bunkers--Was in the greenside bunker on #8 that had thick brownish sand that you really had to blast out of. Rating that bunker a 7/10 Rough--Its pretty dry and in rough shape out here--they are really letting it go. Rated 4/10 I love the layout and always play here on my bday and when it is cooler in the spring and fall. I have seen the course in better shape but if you play for their twilight rates or get a good deal online I might recommend it for those rates.

Played here this morning on an email special; $10 to walk. It's been several months since I was last here and it appears the drought is really taking a toll. Many areas of the fairways and rough are now browned out or just down to dirt. Greens are just about the only green you will see here. Too bad, because I have loved this course for many years. The photos you see posted on this site are a stark contrast to what you will see currently. Other than that, I did enjoy my day here. 3 1/2 hours walking; solo the front nine, then joined by a local for the back nine, who is taking them up on a $1400 all-you-can-play M-F/year deal. I almost always had a decent lie and the greens were fairly receptive to well-struck shots. They rolled well, but tended to be a little on the slow side, maybe around a 9 +/-. The bunkers were nicely groomed, but I did not like the sand, which was dark brown, fine, and somewhat dense. I had trouble making a good sand shot the two times I visited the bunkers. Great rollout on the fairways, but like I said it is really brown out here now. I guess they are on a well and the main lake below the clubhouse is nearly dry. Pray for rain!

A great course in Ojai area that should not be missed....so reasonable at $19 to walk! and it is walkable...played a little slow on a wednesday. Greens were in great condition, sand traps need more sand as they are not consistant, fairways are a bit thin but due to the water shortage it is ok and playable. Beautiful views and a challenge for everyone too with the many tee box options. Don't miss this gem in the hills!

Played the Oak tees (6806/72.9/128) in slightly less than 4 Hours for $15. The weather was excellent for golf, partly cloudy, fairly calm, around 80. Visually, the course does not look as good as it used to. The normally large lake between holes #1 & #10 is still mostly dry. However, I really like this layout, it plays decently. The Poa Annua tees are generally flat and were mowed close, very nice! The fairways are firm with good coverage. Semi lush would be accurate. The rough is thinner, hardpan in spots and not overly tall. In many places there was very little difference in being in the fairway or the rough. The sand traps were decently maintained with fine, dark sand. The combination Bent & Poa Annua greens were Medium speed with few ball marks. They are firm, but still held approach shots well & putted Okay. The customer service was excellent. No drink cart, but plenty of water stations on the course. This is an average difficulty course to walk, not very hilly, no significant elevation changes or long hikes between any holes. Recommended = yes.

Played the Oak tees (6806/72.9/128) on their week of B-Day promotion, $15 including a cart. Thanks Soule Park! Partly cloudy, fairly calm weekday morning, around 80, excellent golf weather. Overall, the course conditions were better than my last visit her in the fall of 2015. The tees are generally flat and the Poa Annua was mowed close, very nice! I played here yesterday, using the free birthday coupon (mandatory $15 cart) available from the course website. It was a beautiful spring day with clearing skies from a morning rain. Most everything here is firm: tees, fairways, rough, bunkers, and greens. The greens were soft enough to have ball marks, but firm enough that you had to land high, soft shots or you risk running off the back. Greens were running medium fast and rolled true. A couple of greens had some minor work done to spots: looks like a small pass with the aerator and some sand about 6 feet long. The two or three I saw were in areas not near the flags. I played as a single and ended up not being able to play through the many groups ahead, so I opted to put a couple of balls into play and also play extra shots for practice. I played the orange tees and some of them were slightly not level, most notable was #10. I will say this about the rough: if you get outside the regularly maintained areas, you will have some problems finding your ball; a lot of it is weeds and your ball basically gets covered by the foliage. The fairways and immediate rough that gets to see a mower are really good to hit from. I almost always had a good lie, except for holes 9 and 17 fairways, which were a bit scrappy. Sand in the bunkers was medium heavy, fine, soft, and dark brown in color. Most bunkers had a good amount of it, but a couple were thin. Pace of play was 4.5 hours, starting at 10:30 and finishing at 3:00.

Walked the Orange Tees this afternoon 3/28/16 at 2:15pm with my buddy Pedro7170 for their standard twilight rate of $19.00. POP was 4 hours 10 minutes taking our time practice putting on every green never pushed. Weather for Ojai was cold and breezy at 10-20mph plus at times(usually very little wind here). Boy have the fairways become greener since my last visit months ago. Fairways are coming in nice with some lusher grass perking up. Still some dry spots here and there but overall some improvement(6.5/10). Greens were semi-smooth and have seen them quicker on past visits. Some of the greens had some minor patches of maintenance going on near some cups? Anyway they held shots nicely--probably rolling close to a 10 on the stimp--rated 7/10. The tees were semi-lush with some teeing grounds needing leveling-rated 6/10. Was in greenside bunker on #16 that was raked and contained just enough sand(rated 7/10). Rough is spotty, dry in most places and clumpy--not in great shape(rated 5/10). For 19 bucks at twilight this course is a nice deal. Great staff, peaceful views, nice layout--always priced lower than most courses.
