Played on Sunday 10/9. This is becoming one of my favorite courses. Combination of reasons. First, it's never crowded, had 9:00 tee time, got out at 8:30. Also the course itself is always in good to very good condition. Playing from the orange tees will give you plenty of challenge here and you will not be disappointed. The weekend green fee of $45.00 with cart can't be beat and I will continue the make the drive from Pasadena to play this fantastic track. I think this past weekend it was not crowded due to the heat in Ojai compared to Oxnard and Ventura. Last thing hole # 8 when the flag is all the way on the left side of the green can be one of the toughest holes anywhere.

Played the Orange tees (6541/71.5/125) with RGM2525 in 3h, 45m on their "Wacky Wed." promotion, $12 to walk. The customer service was excellent, they got us matched up with another 2some and we were rarely held up. Sunny, calm weekday afternoon, low 80's, great golf conditions. This is an average difficulty course to walk, not very hilly, no significant elevation changes or long hikes between any holes. The tees are generally flat but were a combination of furry and thin. A couple were closed for maintenance. The fairways are more thin than lush with good coverage. The rough is thin, hardpan in spots and not overly tall. In many places there was very little difference in being in the fairway or the rough. The sand traps were OK with fine, dark sand. The mostly bent greens are getting more and more poa annua on them. They were firm & putted OK. Medium speed with few ball marks and held approach shots well. The normally large lake between holes #1 & #10 is about 90% dry. No drink cart, but plenty of water stations on the course. Overall, the course is dry and really showing signs of the drought. I really like this layout, but conditions will need to improve significantly before it justifies me driving to Ojai again.

Round 2 today was at Soule Park. We were able to tee it up pretty soon after arriving and though there was a small tournament out on the course ahead and some other scattered twosomes, we enjoyed a good pace of around 3 hours. "Free" birthday deal with mandatory $15 for cart (whether you use it or not) and an extra $1 "capital improvement" fee.

The course was in decent shape, but a step down from previous visits. Fairways had some thin spots and rough was pretty spotty, but still pretty good playability throughout. Greens were nice. Firm, but receptive and rolling medium/quick and smooth on top. I wasn't in any bunkers, which is a shock.

I enjoy this course and in my previous visits, I didn't fare well, but today I had a great round and felt vindicated here. Nice setting and decent linksy layout. Still find the placement of many bunkers odd and greens are deceptive on approaches with the big collar areas that surround some of them. Worth the drive for the bday deal, so I will be back.

Second round on my tour of Ojai on Sunday 7/26 at 9:50.

My expectations were obviously not as high as compared to Ojai Valley Inn, but the course still left a bit to be desired. Fairways and rough were both a bit thin and patchy. The recent rain greened things up a bit, but there were plenty of fairway lies that sat down in the thin areas between healthier grass. Bunkers weren't bad for a muni in my experience. Enough sand to get under the ball which is really all I ask for. Greens were maddening compared to the previous day. Slow and inconsistant. You'd hit the same putt 3 times and it would react in three different ways. POP was brutal at 5.5 hours (We got stuck behind a tournament.)

I'm very much willing to give it another shot because the layout is very good and the Hanse design team definitely gave the green complexes a lot of character (sometimes a bit TOO much). I'm willing to bet we just caught Soule on a bad day.

Greens: 8/10--In great shape highlight of the course probably in between a 9 and a 10 on the stimp. Greens are showing signs of poa coming to the surface but they are still putting smooth and slick. Very little to no divots or ballmarks on the greens. Kudos to the greenskeeper regarding the greens.

Tees 7/10--They are semi to very lush with some tees a bit crowned but not to bad.

Fairways 7/10--Some spots of lush grass, some dry spots here and there.

Bunkers 7/10- Raked semi-firm sand in decent shape. Many bunkers on the course that are well and strategically placed.

Great weather and wonderful staff--great views--peaceful--recommended.

Played 5-13-15 with Nickesquire walking 36, tee off at 7:40 finished at 3. One of the greener courses around right now. Tee boxes were lush and level. Fairways were semi- lush with a few thin areas. Rough is pretty short and a little dried out but not to bad. Sandtraps had nice firm sand. Greens were rolling medium/fast and mostly smooth. $28 to walk and $12 for replay, what a great deal.

They putted well, medium to medium fast speed with few ball marks and held approach shots well. The fairways are probably more thin than lush with good coverage. The rough is not overly tall and semi lush to thin in spots. In many places there was very little difference in being in the fairway or the rough. The sand traps were very nicely maintained with fine, dark sand. A bad omen is that the lake between #1 & #10 was down a good 10' below full, it was barely half full. There were hundreds of balls in the mud that would normally be submerged. I have never played here before when the lake was not full, the visual difference was shocking. The customer service was excellent, they got us right out in front of other groups and we were rarely held up AD. No drink cart, but plenty of water stations on the course. Overall, the course only looked average, but I thought it played better than average. I really like this layout and wish the course were closer so I could play it more often.

Enough water and trees to keep you thinking. Undulating greens make it a challenge too. Don't miss this course. Make the drive. You won't be disappointed.

Walked Soule this morning 4/6/2015 at 10:09am with my buddy Pedro, his buddy Carlos and his buddy Ivan from Orange tees. POP 4 hours 15 minutes. We had a 4 for 3 coupon so walking was only 21 bucks per person(unbelievable morning deal). You need to sign up on their website for this special that they are running Monday through Wed until the end of April. For 21 bucks in the morning this course is a steal. Conditions were just about as good as 2 weeks ago when I played here last. The greens are medium speed, soft on approach shots and putting fairly pure. Aprons/fringes were being watered as we played. Some were firm, some were wet but all were in good shape nicely mowed. The tee boxes are very lush and fairly level---good shape. The fairways were semi-lush with mostly good coverage. Bunkers were in good shape, raked with just enough sand in them. There are plenty of bunkers to keep tee shots and approach shots honest----did something today that I have not done in it seems like years---piped drive on #8 to 123yds out--pw uphill to 12 feet on a tucked pin--missed birdie by an inch--tap in par----that hole usually OWNS me----can recommend this course--great staff, layout and almost always great weather.
