Well Kaybee, obviously you didn't read the reviews of this place before you went. Glassjaw, Sngernz, Silverstrand, and mdames have all said the same thing since August! I played there this morning as well and I have to agree with all of you on most of the conditions. I knew what to expect and would have been very disappointed had I paid full price $53.00 I talked with the Manager about offering a discounted price while the course recovers from major maintenance and She would consider it. The fairways are in major repair, although I was able to play from them. A lot of them had roped off areas. The rough was at times just wild and uncut. I had a very difficult time finding a level area on T boxes, especially 12, I mean it was just a pitcher's mound. I played from the Whites today because my company is having an event there at the end of the month so I can't say for the other Tee areas but I'm sure they were not that different. The two bunkers I was in were in perfect condition! The greens are the only thing going here right now. Great shape. I hope the rest of the course catches up soon. This is a fun and challenging course but not for top dollar, no way. Unless you get a discounted rate of a deal somewhere, I would wait. At least Olivas is offering Twilight all week as they are dressing their greens. Go Play! (somewhere else for now) I let you know at the end of the Month after our event if things are improved! PS. The staff was very nice and courteous to me ;)

Have never seen a course in this bad of condition that is open for play. The fairways are worse than the rough at any municipal course in SoCal. Asked specifically about course condition when I called for tee times and all the starter said was "we punched the fairways two weeks ago". Talk about understatement of the year; very disappointed I woke up early to drive out there. So bad we quit after 9 holes.

It's not so much bare dirt or dead spots at this course it's just the grass patches and ropes that are really annoying at this course. It really inhibits my ability to have fun. It's too bad as I played here in the spring and it was great. I avoid this course at all costs until the fairways come together.

Played it Sunday mid-day. You know you're in trouble when the marshal tells you at the first tee: 'its a nice layout, the greens are good, but the fairways have areas in distress' ... and that's a sum of Sterling Hills right now: in distress. Now add the fact that it requires some local knowledge and the wind is up and you're looking at a long day of golf. Just so patchy everywhere, just hit and hope. And you must avoid the many hazards and areas that will take a well struck driver into a red staked, good luck to even find your ball, condition. I hate to write a poor review but this course needs something to get the grass(es) back in shape and soaking the fairways won't be the solution. On the positive side, I can see how this could be a fun track under better conditions. Sorry, not recommended at this time.

Played Saturday 8/9 at 11:00am. Course was not crowded. Played the first 8 holes as a threesome and never waited on any shot. Caught up to a slower couple of groups and things slowed down a bit, but not too bad.

This course has deteriorated since the last time I was here in April. Obviously casualty of the drought. Tee boxes are a bit chewed up but you could find a decent tee area if you looked for it. Fairways are thin and spotty. There are many areas that are roped off as ground under repair. The fairway is a mix of grasses. For the most part you'll get a decent lie in the fairway. But occasionally you'll find yourself on bare ground between grasses. The rough is not penal and is spotty.

I was in two bunkers and they were very firm, mostly packed dirt. A couple of times I hit my approach shot just short of the green on the apron. Some of these areas were clumpy and spotty, making for some dicey lies. I greens were OK. A few bad spots on some of the greens, but they mostly rolled well and were medium speed. The weather is great in Camarillo when it's hot in the valley. But this course is just so-so at this point. Would only want to play it for a discounted rate.

Played here on Monday 4/28 mid morning. Walked on as a single and got paired up with a nice couple. Overall, the course is in very nice shape. The fairways are pretty lush with good lies all over. There are some areas that are roped off with ground under repair on a few holes. This never impacted play until the 18th hole, where there is a fairly large section of grass that was being re-seeded in the middle of the fairway impacting your second shot on this par 5. Tee boxes are OK. There were several tees where you had to hunt for some level ground, but not too bad. The rough was about 1 inch or so in length and not too penal. The greens were punched about 4 weeks ago. Although they looked good, several of the greens were a little bumpy, but many rolled smoothly. They were medium speed.

The only bad part of the course is the greenside bunkers. Most of them are just dirt, very well raked and nice looking DIRT. This made it difficult to get out of the two bunkers I was in. I did notice that some of the bunkers had nice sand in them. But most did not. The course is very enjoyable with good conditions. Go play.

Played Sterling Hills with my buddy RGM2525. I thought the golf course was in good shape especially for the golfnow price we paid $20.00 including cart. Fairways were green and pretty lush with ball sitting up nicely. Very little issues in the fairways. For the time of year and lack of rain they were in good shape. The greens were in good shape. Probably rolling a 9 on the stimp. They were putting slower but on chips they were quick. The tees were lush with some nice coverage as well. Several tees need leveling and I see this as one of the few problem areas with the course. Was in greeenside bunker on #15 that contained nice beach sand that was raked. Starter was friendly. We really enjoyed our round here. POP was 3 hrs 50 minutes and that was with waiting behind several groups throughout the day. I think the course is in as nice as shape as I have seen it.

Played Sterling Hills Sunday 2/15/14 7:34 tee time. It's been a few months since I've played Sterling, mostly due to very poor conditions the last couple of outings. I am pleased to say that things have greatly improved. The entire course is very green and lush, considering the drought in SoCal. PoP was a little slower than hoped, about 4:30 to get around.

Tees: Very lush and level. On one par three the tees were pushed up past all the existing boxes due to re-seeding. Most others were very good.

Fairways: Very green and lush. There are still many areas that are roped off from carts, but that is obviously helping. Previously, in the morning the fairways were soggy and awful. Now they are great. Not cut too short, so the ball sits up nicely. I was very impressed.

Greens: Sterling's greens are always the highlight of the course. They were smooth and true, running about 10-10.5 on the stimp. No complaints from me on the greens here, ever.

I'm happy to say that I will be putting Sterling Hills back in the rotation.
