Played there last week. The conditions were below 'cow pasture' level. Fairways and rough was just mowed weeds where there was any. Lots of dirt areas in both the rough and fairways. Little sand in the bunkers. Almost all the tee boxes were destroyed with unrepaired divots and dead areas. The greens were in good shape. If I hadn't booked through Golfnow.com and gotten a great price it would have been a serious ripoff.

Played with regular foursome today and, to a man, they said they would not play here again until they get the course in better condition. Fairways are sanded, punched, overseeded, wet and roped off everywhere you turn. I played here over one month ago and these conditions existed then. I wish I would have checked the conditions out before booking the tee time here for this week. There was NO MENTION of these conditions on the phone when I call for the tee time, and there was NO OFFER to reduce the green fess for these terrible conditions.

The course may say they're like a private club but its maintained like a bad muni. Winter maintenance under way but not sure if their applying winter dirt or sand - very little grass on front nine. ... Continue »

The course may say they're like a private club but its maintained like a bad muni. Winter maintenance under way but not sure if their applying winter dirt or sand - very little grass on front nine. They need to clean up leaves, branches and other debris throughout the course. As they told me in the pro shop come back the end of November they hope the course will be more playable. Save your green fee and go play river ridge.

4-5 fairways are seeded, so it was cart path only for these holes. We were informed in advance, and range balls are given to treat for this situation. satisfied.

Friday morning was packed local elder ppl, so pace was slow, but we also have a couple of first timer here, so 5hr was expected. In the Afternoon, some wind was picked up, makes difference compare to morning round.

Green was great
Fairway was not bad. Rough was not too easy but playable.

Seeded and aerated fairways makes your show spike fully retarded with caked of mud but this was the only issue for us. But it was really annoying to tap out all mud with wedge edge.

I would come again if another good deal (voucher) showed up.

Drove 1 hour from LA to play a 4 1/2 hour round at a semi private golf course and was served up a 6 hour round as "the club booked two tournaments"...we are sorry. Best of luck to the management if they keep up this sorry state of affairs. I have had the same experience before and will not be playing here again. What is not surprising is also the state of the golf course which at one time was my favorite Ventura County course. Olivas is a hundred times better.

Played 7/8, found course to be okay but nothing special. Decent if you live in the area but not worth a long drive. Course was very wet for late morning and sand, er, mud traps, were, well, muddy. Rough was long and inconsistent, with Marigolds growing just a foot off the fairway. Decent overall, but nothing overly special. Recommend if you're in the area and can get a decent rate but probably won't be back.

Greens: 7.5/10 Greens were healthy looking, little ballmarks and putting in pretty good shape. Our group noticed though that some greens were slow, some were more firm...this could be frustrating on chips and lag putts with not a consistent speed from green to green. Did not bother me much but just an interesting observation.

Fairways 7.5/10 I thought the fairways were in good shape for Sterling. I don't play here much but remember the fairways being dry last time I was out here so kudos for the staff and shape of the fairways. Our group found a few over watered spots but overall they were in decent shape.

Bunkers 7/10 I was in 3 greenside bunkers that had a crusty top surface but plenty of sand underneath. No issues with the sand and they were nicely raked traps.

Tees: 5/10 This course really needs to level the tees especially the 3 pars. Number 8 and number 15 come right to mind as horrible teeing grounds. Most other boxes contained good turf.

Rough: 7/10 Thick up to a couple to 3 inches in spots lining the fairways...good shape

Overall 6/10....ayy... not that big of fan of the layout..buddy wanted to play here today...much nicer courses out there for your money....

Played 6-17 in the afternoon on a good internet deal for $18.70 including cart. Pace of play was slow for me at 4:40. Course is in ok shape. Teeboxes could use some leveling especially 15 the three par nowhere to find a level stance. Fairways are very lush and long with not much roll and a few bare spots here and there. Rough is not that long or difficult to hit from a few areas looking kinda bare from lack of water. Found one fairway bunker on 10 which had a nice thin layer of sand which made it easy to pick the ball out of it. Greens look real nice but are a little slow and bumpy but that may have a little to do with the afternoon time. Looks like the course is trying to improve the conditions, alot of farways where roped off to prevent to much cart traffic on them. If you can find a good deal this course is worth playing.
