Played ‘TR’ - that’s their new branding - on Friday 6/19 at 9am. Great POP, at 4:15. They do 12 minute tee times right now, and it really helps. Waiting a little here and there, but otherwise kept moving along nicely. Course is ok/good right now. Definitely rough around the edges, but still good shape, great greens, and great views/environment. One of my favorite hillside type courses. Greens can be tough, as many false fronts/backs/sides to them. A few holes are quirky, but overall great layout. We paid $60 to ride on a Friday morning, and thought it was extremely reasonable. I think it’s $20 more on the weekends. Not sure if ‘TR’ is back to being an $80 round. Needs more fine tuning to get the rates they used to. It’s seems as if they are pretty liberal on their COVID-19 precautions. Masks are voluntary for golfers near the clubhouse. It is Ventura County, and I live in LA, so not sure if there are differences. Overall, would recommend for $60 or less.

Late review...sorry. I played Thursday 6/4 teeing off at 3:36p with 2 friends and a very nice single joining us. Customer service was good, as usual. All of the practice facilities are open, and in very good shape.

Unfortunately, the course is not in very good shape. The greens are fantasic, as always. They are obviously getting the lion's share of the water on the course. The fairways were just that...fair. Decent coverage with some ground under repair spots, but mostly they were very firm. Painful on the elbows if you chunk one. The rough was hit or miss, mostly thin and a lot of hardpan under thin grass. The fairways and rough had recently been punched with the largest holes I've ever seen, and the plugs were still in the rough. Not good. The sand traps are the worst I've ever seen. It looked like they hadn't been touched in a month. I hit out of 2, and after that I was just picking my ball out of there. Hard packed dirt that there was no chance of playing a decent shot out of. No thanks.

Positively, it was a beautiful day with cool people and I was out of the d%mn house. Another positive...it was only $45 for the round with a single rider cart. I'll be putting Tierra on the pass list until I hear otherwise.

Played on 4/23 for my first post-quarantine round. I was so excited about the chance to play despite not making a full swing in over a month, the warm temps and walking only. I was just thinking how I've never walked TR before as I booked my tee time online. It was rough! The front nine was a very difficult walk and extremely difficult for 2 of my playing partners. Course conditions are great but be aware that if you don't usually walk when you play or have physical restrictions, walking 18 holes here is very difficult. Especially if the temps get over 85 degrees. I noticed that almost all of the groups that started as foursomes in front of me "lost" players...mostly twosomes and singles walking the back 9. Get out and play...sunshine is great but we had to call the clubhouse to send a cart and pick up one of partners because he couldn't make it back himself. I ended up finishing as a single. Stay well!

First off this AM. No carts so only walking. Lady in the shop said Ventura County is not allowing courses to use carts currently and no idea when available. At La Purisima last week carts available. So pick your courses accordingly in Ventura County. But I can proudly say "I walked T R and survived" and I doubt I will be doing it again w/o getting my Kangaroo electric cart in operational shape. A very light carry bag is better than a push/pull cart and I mean very light. Or if you have an electric push cart that would be good also. Course was in really good shape. Never had a bad lie in the fairway. Tee boxes were good. Rough was not very penal but there are enough OB areas to make up for that. Bunkers are not playable or play at your own peril IMO. Greens were very very nice. But they put the cups on top of the holes, with a very small orange flag (like you see maintenance use) and unless you are really close to the green, hard to see. Much prefer they use flagsticks with rubber bumpers, like some courses do. But an enjoyable round of golf and glad to be able to get back out and play. $35 sr rate walking and the course is not crowded. Prepaid rounds only. Not even allowing walk ups at present.

Played Friday 2/7...had to be the second group out. Joined up with a couple of singles to make a 4-some.

Started off a little cold but turned out to be a beautiful day by the 5th hole. Pace of play was great, finished in just about 4 hours with all 4 of us taking a few extra shots here and there. Tees were in great shape. Greens were the highlight of the round...smooth, rolled true and were quick. Fairways were a little thin and tight in a lot of spots but I guess that's to be expected given the weather we've had around here lately. The only downside is that the bunkers are absolutely awful. They played like cement and had standing water in a more than one of them. Would highly recommend this course to anyone, but would tell them to pull the ball out of the sand if they happen to find themselves on a beach...as long as we are all paying for our own clubs...no reason to risk damage or injury.

Rode the blues this morning 1/13/2020 on a beautiful colder morning with little to no wind. POP was great thanks to the starter letting me tee off on the back nine first to avoid multiple groups that were on holes 1 and 2.

Conditions were similar to my last round out here about 3 weeks ago.

The greens once again were the highlight of the show. Super quick putting and chipping wise yet holding beautifully with well struck irons with spin. They had some really challenging pins this morning where you could see putts struck a little to firm rolling a good 6 feet or so by the hole. Green rating 8.5/10.

Fairways were mostly green. Would say 70 percent lush, 30 percent thin. Didn't have a bad lie in the fairway. Rated 7/10

Tees were positioned at the back of every tee box which was cool and gave other areas a chance to heal. Most tees were level where you could find a good spot. Rated 7/10

Rough was mostly mowed down in a uniform fashion. Some of the rough is lush, some spots thinner. Rated 6.5/10

Sand bunkers have improved some. They are actually all raked and maintained beautifully, they just need more sand overall in the greenside traps. Rated 6/10.

Course is super fun to play with some nice tight tee shots, forced carries, lakes and a good portion of ESA's to navigate. Some nice birdie holes and some challenging holes as well.

Recommended.

Teed off at Tierra Rejada on Wednesday (1/8/20) at 8:32am as a twosome. We finished the round right at 11:30 - just three hours! The pace of play was perfect. After a somewhat chilly morning, it warmed up nicely into the low 60's with little to no wind. Perfect conditions. I will echo Gary's (GDR23) comments about the course. Overall, it is in very nice shape. Only the bunkers are a disappointment.

Teeboxes - 7/10, mostly lush, some were a little shaggy but no problems at all
Fairways - 7/10, nicely green, good lies in the fairway with adequate cushion. Some areas,
especially closer to the greens were tight. But for the winter, they were nicely
maintained.
Rough - 6/10, a little spotty, with some tufts here and there. But not too penal or deep
Bunkers - 3/10, several were full of water and muddy. Mostly the bunkers were dirt with a
tiny bit of sand covering them. They were very hard. I chipped my ball out of them
as if I were in the fairway grass with a tight lie.
Greens - 8/10, greens were semi firm. They rolled very well - medium fast.

Other than the bunkers, the course is a pleasure to play. I do recommend it. I spoke with one of the guys in the pro shop after the round and asked if there are any plans to improve the bunkers. He told me that since 1/1/20 green fees have been increased a mere $1 per round. This money is to be used to address the greenside bunkers later in the year. Once the bunkers are made nice, this will be a must play course.

Had a great time this morning 12/19/2019 riding the blues on a colder morning with a say 10mph breeze. POP was 3 hrs playing the front in an hour and then catching a logjam of players on #12. Great friendly staff here at Tierra Rejada. Couple cool changes is they are now allowing golf carts in the parking lot to load and unload and they are currently working on the East end driving range fence. I saw a ton of improvements on the course today.

Fairways were green, mostly lush with a few tight lies here and there but for the most part for December golf I thought they were in good shape. The closer you got to the greens there were some thin chipping areas but not to bad. Rated 7/10

The greens were fantastic. Not sure if it was the last 2 days of wind that made them firm, possibly along with the colder weather in the mornings. They were awesome and a treat to putt on. Made my fair share of 10-15 footers today. Awesome when you can start a putt online and it will hold its line. Beware greens are firm and well struck irons or chips with spin will hold with height, anything else was releasing big time today. Loved the greens as I love firmer greens! Rated 8/10

Tees were mostly lush, mostly level and had some minor divot damage on some par 3's. Rated 7/10

Rough was mostly mowed down and not an issue just off the fairways, Some different clumps of grass but I was surprised how green the rough is especially again for December. Staff doing a great job here. Rough 7/10

Sadly the bunkers were the only thing that needs attention. After hitting a 355 yd drive on number 3 I was in the left fairway bunker with an 80 yd bunker shot that was on stone ground. Actually like the fairway bunkers like this but also encountered stone ground on greenside bunkers on #12 and #16. Almost looks like they had days of rain and no maintenance. For sure could use some more sand in the greenside bunkers and a good rake.

Other than the bunkers this course is in very good shape right now! Nice challenging layout with some target front nine holes, good mix of risk reward holes and some pretty good conditions especially the greens. Recommended.

Teed off as a 4some at 9:04am on Monday, 11/11. The course was quite busy since it was the veterans day holiday. We did quite a bit of waiting on the front nine, but it eased up somewhat on the back nine. Total play time was 4.5 hours - not too bad for a holiday. Evidence of the fire in this area is abundant. The fire definitely was on the course. Most of the canyon areas surrounding the holes were completely burned out and covered with the red fire retardant the airplanes drop. In fact that red stuff was on many cart paths and fences on the course. Fortunately, the actual playing area of the course was not burned. It still smells pretty smoky in many areas. But I didn't notice it much after a while. On to the course playing conditions. THE GOOD: fairways and greens. The fairways are in good shape, plenty of coverage, with good lies and a fair amount of roll out. The greens were quite smooth, running medium fast. They were firm but held approach shots just fine. THE BAD: Tee boxes were a little shaggy. The rough was a bit spotty and not too penal. THE UGLY: The sand traps at the course are damp and VERY hard. I was in two greenside bunkers. I was able to get out, but it was not easy. They need to churned up and raked. I enjoyed playing here. The course, overall, is in good condition. I recommend it.
