Tierra Rejada with the GK Guru group, playing with Sal, Ron and Mike - good times! It was a hot day so it was vital to have the drinks at the ready, but it was great to see some of the water fountains working and nice touches like rakes in the bunkers.

TR is a very unique course - if you've played it, then you know. Jekyll and Hyde from the front nine to the back, but always fun and a massive test of accuracy and guts. There's no backing down from some of the long carries and tough angles on the front nine, while the back nine is much more traditional but no less penal of mistakes.

The course visually looks great right now. The fairways are nice and green and most of the lies were quite good. A few thin spots here and there which made some shots a little dicey, especially around the greens, but overall no major complaints. The new bunkers were looking and playing very nicely - the white fluffy stuff currently that every golfer wants to see.

Unfortunately the greens still were showing some signs of bumpiness and slow speeds after recent punching. They were much better on the front nine than on the back. A few too many ball marks made putting an adventure and it was difficult to really keep things on line. As others have said, they should be much better in a few weeks. Tee boxes were fine in some places, but a few of them were chewed up pretty badly.

POP rolled along nicely all afternoon and we didn't have any other difficulties getting through the round in prompt fashion. Carts are quite nice but don't have any GPS, which would probably be a nice addition at a place like this.

Still a great day all around and I will always love coming back to Tierra Rejada to see where my game has progressed or regressed. There's simply no hiding from it here.

Like Gary and Sal, I played Tierra Rejada as part of the guru outing on 10/12. Overall, the course is quite playable, and a challenge. I'd just like to comment on the three things that stood out to me; greens, tee boxes, and sand. The greens were very bumpy, especially on the back nine holes. Many putts became slightly air borne, lost speed, and were taken off line by the remnants of the punching that took place recently.

Many of the tee boxes, especially the par 3's, were quite chewed up and unlevel. You could find a good teeing spot for the most part, but it was visually unattractive. Finally, the sand in the newly renovated bunkers was excellent. I was in 3 bunkers. All of them had nice, soft (but not too soft) sand that was a pleasure to hit from. As was stated in one of the earlier reviews, I would wait a week or two before playing here again in the hope that the greens would roll more smoothly.

I was one of the last GK reviews regarding Tierra Rejada and the terrible bunkers earlier this year, so when I got an email from the course and shared news on GK of the course redoing their bunkers, I got excited. The greens are usually (not yesterday though) very good here, and the only major thing less than a 6 on the scale was the sand/bunkers. Getting to play yesterday and experience the bunkers was something else. The amount of bunkers has been reduced somewhat (certain holes lost one or two bunkers, others were reshaped a bit), the sand is now a whiter color and more consistent texture, and they have rakes!! It was tremendous to see the course put so much work into getting this done. Well done Tierra Rejada.

Out this afternoon 10/12/2020 teeing off at 1pm with buddies and GK Gurus Pedro7170, JohnnyGK and Barkydog1! We rode the Blue tees on a warm afternoon this afternoon and had a blast. Driving range was open on grass, putting and chipping green was open along with the bunker area below adjacent to the driving range. COVID-19 masks to be worn in the pro-shop. Fairways were in above average shape with nice padding in most areas, some wet areas and some thinner areas thrown in here or there. Overall they were serviceable and nice to play off of. One thing of note here is you can be in the fairway especially on the front nine with a tough stance with your feet above or below the ball so you have to adjust accordingly. Fairway rating 7/10. I think our group was disappointed with the greens. First the good they looked decent and held shots very nicely that had spin and were high trajectory and were soft. The bad news is I think they recently had maintenance done on them and were very bumpy putting wise. I would personally give the greens a week or so to be cut, rolled and hopefully they will be smoother in the near future. Current green rating 5/10 Was not in any bunkers but boy did they look nice! Great job on the bunker renovation! Playing partners were in many bunkers and they described them as newer soft fluffy pancake sand. Tee boxes were mostly lush and level, some you needed to hunt to find a level stance and there was some divot damage on some of the par 3's. Rated 6.5/10 Rough was at times super lush lining the fairways to some thinner spots here and there. Rated 6/10. Enjoy the challenge here. I look at the course this way if your driver is on there are many score able holes. If your tee ball is off there are big numbers to be had on mostly every hole especially on the front nine. We played the back 9 this morning with a 640am tee time. With no word from the pro shop that there was a major renovation going on, we teed off on 10 only to find that the par 4 has been temporarily converted to a short 130 yard par 3. "okay," we thought. "No biggie." As we played through to 11 (tough par 3 over a ravine), we go to 12 only to find that the hole is closed. WTF? There are also many bunkers closed due to maintenance and several tee boxes were extremely shaggy. It sure would have been nice to have been told that holes would be closed and some converted. I'm so glad we only played 9. I would have been very upset to have paid for a full 18. I'd recommend calling if you plan on playing anytime soon. Not recommended at this time.

Had not played here in about six years, so was excited to return. Normally I have good recollection of golf courses, even those I've only played a limited number of times, but I have to confess I only recalled about three holes, so it was like playing a "new" course.

We had a 9:50am time, but they were able to get us out at 9:10am which was greatly appreciated. Good pace considering the time of day - just under 3 1/2 hours.

Course was in better than expected condition. The greens were however very slow. They held the shots and rolled true, but were just too slow. Fairways had decent coverage, although thin in spots. A few tee boxes were chewed up and not level. The only real complaint was they are reconstructing the greenside bunkers, so they were just awful, but at least they're putting forth the effort. Additionally they totally closed the 16th hole and never mentioned it at check in. Not good customer service there.

Enjoyed the round despite my poor play and the heat which I am not used to playing in.

I played here Thursday 8/6/2020. Had 9:50 tee time and was off on time and got around the course in a foursome in 3:55. The staff were courteous and patient as the clubhouse is currently undergoing a major painting and repair project, so routing and availability of some resources were different or difficult.

I don't like to review negatively as I always consider a day on a golf course a blessing and privilege, but this day was disappointing. Nearly all of the tees are spotty at best and some were a bit shaggy as well. The fairways were ok, but not lush and again spotty in a lot of locations. Greens are somewhat slow. I thought they seemed thick with lots of grass and wondered if thinning it out a bit would have given it a better chance. They were also quite bumpy. The biggest disappointment were the bunkers. There is no sand in any of them! They are just hard packed dirt at the moment with large trenches in them which appear to be some kind of drainage.

Honestly, it just felt like they had given up here. I understand all of the challenges we currently are dealing with, but rates don't reflect any of the short comings and no one on staff ever mentioned the traps or anything like that. With some of the best views around and a somewhat challenging layout this course could be a jewel, but without some serious focus and dedication to bringing it back, it may be short lived. I heard a lot of grumbling afterwards while having a cocktail on the makeshift patio.

Played here yesterday 7/24. Before I go into the review, want to give a shout out to Gary (GDR23)...he fit me in for a quick lesson this week and got me back to normal which definitely helped today. Ended up shooting a 79...3 wood let me down a few times and had to scramble to save par where I should have been going for birds.

Ok time to review - not the best I've seen it in the last few years. Seems COVID has really brought out just about anyone who has ever thought about playing golf. Pace of play was okay at best. Had a 2:30 tee time and had to wait until 5 minutes before to get a cart. Range machine was empty, so after walking down the hill that was a disappointment. Luckily someone left a full bucket so was able to grab a few of those while they picked the range to refill the machine. Ended up finishing just before 730 (so about a 5 hour range). Was waiting on pretty much every shot.

Tees - beat up and broken. They had set them up on flat ground, but it was pretty much all divots and dirt by the time we got around. Very few had grass to hit from. would rate them a 5/10 at best for their attempt to at least put them on flat ground.

Fairways - thin. Lot of work on several holes (1, 8, 12) so happy to see they're trying here. Still spongy and able to take a nice divot, but thin nonetheless. Would rate these a 6/10.

Greens - pretty much is always the best part of this course. Rolled nice and smooth. Would give these a 9/10. Held long, high and low shots...just perfect. Only thing I wish is that they were a little bit faster. Would say they were rolling around a 10 on the stimp.

Bunkers - most awful part of this course. Wish they would just go to home depot and buy a bunch of kids play sand for $5 bucks a bag (on sale it's $2.50 a bag) and pour them in the bunkers. That'd be better than the cement that they have there now. For a couple thousand dollars they could at least make them playable. Would rate these a 0/10 and I know I'm not the only one since someone wrote a message to the greenskeeper on the sign telling people not to take sand canisters on number 10.

Overall - wouldn't recommend this course right now. They are adjusting their prices, but even $60 for a friday afternoon is a little steep for a course that plays like a dirthill.

Played here for the first time with a friend on Wednesday (18 Holes) and was not disappointed. We teamed up with another couple and had a really nice time playing together.

Played here for the first time with a friend on Wednesday (18 Holes) and was not disappointed. We teamed up with another couple and had a really nice time playing together.

It was quite challenging but was very enjoyable. This is course is not meant for beginners in my opinion. The furthest hole I've ever played was on Hole 1 with over 600+ yards (from the Black Tees).

I was up for the challenge and had an amazing time. The pace was great and a lot of scenery that surrounds each hole as you play. A lot of hills and slopes are on this course but can be in your favor at times. The course was in great condition and properly maintained.

I see myself coming back here soon!
