We got a chance to play Tierra Rejada on Thursday the 21st. We went off the first tee around noon, and the pace of play was terrific. It was a nice day out there. This is a challenging and visually-intimidating course. It's also a "know thyself" course in my view. I've had to get comfortable with the fact that, often, you can't see where your tee shot or approach shot lands. You've got to trust in the club that you've chosen. The four par-five holes are some of the toughest that we've played. The second shot on all of those holes make you think and demand accuracy. Regarding the par-3 holes, from what I've read, I think that I'm one of the very few that actually likes all of them. (I think that I'm one of the black sheep on this site, though.) For those of you who haven't played here, yet, Tierra can be a bit overwhelming. On several holes, you're hitting over chapparal-filled deep ravines, so pick the correct tees for your game. Also, you'll find that some greens have false fronts or swales just in front of them, and that definitely adds to the challenge of your approach, especially with a red pin. Finally, don't forget to take a look around...the views, elevation changes, and wildlife really add to the experience. Enjoy and hit it close!

I played here about 6 months ago and was thrilled with the conditions this time around.

The highlight of the course, as per usual, was the greens. They were fantastic. would rate 8.5/10 due to some inconsistencies in speed and receptiveness. They rolled true and generally held shots well.

The fairways were lush and provided a great hitting surface. There were some dry spots but mostly on the steeper slopes in the fairways. Not necessarily bad since it prevented the ball from stopping on those steep slopes.

The tee boxes were good as well.

Was in a few bunkers throughout the day. the greenside bunkers were stocked with nice sand, fairway bunkers had good sand as well but were spotted with some pebbles.

Overall a fun day with the gurus and would like to get back out to TR soon.

Well after Elkins, I realized I was very close to T R and since I had missed the recent GK Guru play and reading the recent reviews, over I went. Check in was easy/fast. Got right out before a 4 some and played the front 9 fast, only seeing a 3 some on # 3 and they let me through on # 4. I think Johns review says all you need to know about the conditions. I, like John said, love the par 3's (including # 17). And I had no problem with #13 (LOL). The only issue I had today, was with the marshal. He saw me waiting on # 11 and asked how it was going? I told him that the 3 some in front was slow and their music (yes music) was annoying. And the 4 ladies in front of the 3 some, looked like any one of them might collapse at any moment? All he said was "OK have a good round" (yeah I would if you would do your job). Passed it on to the Pro shop, for what it was worth. Except for the marshal, customer service was excellent. This is a great layout, but you really need to play the right tees for your level of play, to get the maximum enjoyment. Recommended.

Had a Great time playing Tierra with Johnny, Gary and Matt yesterday, 5/29. Beautiful day, the course --especially the greens--was in great shape. Greens were soft in most spots and very receptive, fairways quite nice and great sand. Tierra is a mid-level layout in terms of difficulty, but can be VERY punishing if you miss the fairway, as it's a mountainside course with greenery all around, canyons, chapparal, etc. Quite a few lost balls in our group, and that's the real challenge of the course. Always fun!

Played with fellow GK’ers GDR23, Mr.Kich and Barkydog1 at Tierra Rejada Golf Club yesterday. Great time!

Tierra Rejada is a very unique interesting layout I always enjoy (with exception to hole #17). The first 11 holes are a roller coaster of demanding hilly shots with gorgeous views and one of my all-time favorite short par 3’s, hole #7. From hole #12 and on, it becomes a more straightforward course, still loaded with fun holes with my favorite on the back nine, the “waterfall” hole #13 (just wish I could play it well). The clubhouse is small but very nice. Service excellent. Practice facilities great (although the range and lower short game area are currently closed as they replace the netting).

As for the conditions, I live just couple miles from the golf course in same hills the golf course is built in. Let me tell you, it’s a windy and very dry climate. So I knew going into the round that the golf course was not going to be very lush, and likely will never be very lush given our current Southern California water prices and restrictions. That said, they have been doing a good job focusing their water resources on the greens which were in great shape and fun to putt on. The fairways were mostly dry with decent coverage, rough a little more dry but with decent coverage and tee boxes (we played blues) in good shape, little dry, mostly level. The bunkers, I found a couple, had firm sand but certainly playable. There are some weeds you’ll encounter, mostly on the outer edges of the fairways and in the rough but nothing too extreme.

Fun golf course, worth a play, unique experience.

Rode the Blues this morning 5/29/2018 for a GK guru round teeing off at 10:05am with JohnnyGK, MrKich and Barkydog. POP was 4 hrs 40 minutes. Weather was beautiful low 70's with maybe a 1 club breeze on the back nine. Had not played out here in 15 months. Tierra Rejada's range is closed for a couple weeks as they are fixing the fence around the range. They have a very huge and sloped putting green and a separate nice smaller chipping green. Down below on their range they also have a nice short game chipping area with a practice bunker.

The greens were very shiny green, soft and were putting medium speed. They had some minor poa circles creeping in that could effect putts. For the most part the greens ran true. We fixed a couple ballmarks here and there. Green rating 7/10.

The fairways were more lush than thin. 75/25 lush to thin. Some divot damage in the low lying and common areas like #10 fairway. I thought they were in pretty darn good shape. It gets hot in this area and it looks like the course is trying to water where they can. Fairway rating 7/10

The tees were semi-lush with mostly level teeing grounds. There were a few tees where you had to spend time hunting for a stance but you could always almost find it. Some divot damage on the par 3 tees that I tried my best to fill in with sand. Rating 6.5/10.

The rough was low in most places just off the fairway and high in others like where my buddy was just off of #1 fairway. The further you got off the fairway the rougher and less predictable it got. Rated 6/10

Was in one greenside bunker on #7 that contained raked firmer sand.

The layout here is an interesting one on the front--very hilly elevated tee boxes with small target landing areas. I think the front is tougher and has a lot more character than the back nine. It's 2 different golf courses. Some fun character holes on the back as well like 11 and 14. Better hit it real straight here to score.

Its only a mile from home so for sure I will be back on birthday rounds or rounds that I can land a deal on. Recommended for a fun and challenging option in the area.

I was surprised at the condition of the course, the greens were fine, but the fairways were brown, thin and not great condition. The tee boxes were not level and a lot of divots damage. The sand traps were inconsistent with some ok and others hard pan. At the price of $50 I would expect much better conditions than we had. A very challenging course ,but wonder if we just caught it between “season” or ifit has just gone down hill. I am sorry to say I would play elsewhere in the area right now.

Played today, nice cool morning. Was hesitant from reading the last the review but drive by the course everyday and did not look as bad so gave it shot. Glad I did. Place is in good shape. Greens top the list. Rolling smooth at medium speed. Fairways spotty but plenty of green patches and cushion to hit off some dormant grass. Rough same of the fairways but more dormant. Tee boxes mostly level. Sand traps firm. Found a discounted rate on their website. Was worth it to me.

I play this course a few times each year and it's typically in "good" condition. After playing this weekend I'll be surprised if I ever go back. Every fairway is brown and dead. This course has not survived the summer and probably won't get better any time soon. Greens fees at Tierra Rejada are never cheap. To pay more than $80 for this course at this time is a disappointing joke. The greens weren't bad but I did land a few shots on some areas that were rock hard. I thought it was odd when I showed up and no one was really there at 8:45 on a weekend morning. It's because this course is dried out and dead. Additionally I've heard this course is in financial distress. The customer service doesn't add any value either. If a fast food restaurant was able to charge similar prices to a high end steak house and get away with poor customer service. It would be called Tierra Rejada. Not a fan.
