I teed off on Wednesday 1/29/14 at about 11:30, and I was VERY lucky I got to play any of the three courses, let alone The Wolf. I drove out there without calling, figuring that they'd have no problem getting a single out on one of the three courses. When I rolled into the parking lot, the lot was packed and I had to park far, far away from the clubhouse. Why? They were having practice rounds for The Golf Channel Amateur Tour event the following day. Anyway, somebody cancelled a tee time and I got to play.

As you may know, many portions of The Wolf Course were washed away last year. There are pictures of the carnage in the clubhouse. The greenskeeping staff has done a magnificent job of making repairs almost unnoticeable, (except for the island green 15th hole, which is still probably a month or two from filling in, completely).

This is a really fun course. It's in the middle of nowhere, so it's surrounded only by the desert and the mountains. Very beautiful. The layout has lots of nice holes, crowned by the aforementioned island green on 15. Conditions were very good across the board. The greens were smooth and medium-fast. Pace of play was a little over four hours, which was amazing considering how packed the course was. Great customer service at every turn. I highly recommend this course.

The second round of the trip last week was actually only the last 12 holes for me (lunch meeting) on the Wolf Course but as always, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I personally love the last 4 holes of the course. Hole #6 and #8 are a blast too. I again joined Sixpez, Rob1563 and John_T. I personally felt the course was in equal condition to the Sun Mountain course we played in the morning, smooth/medium-fast greens, lush fairways, lush rough (bit longer than Sun Mountain – few inches), quality well groomed sand in the bunkers and level lush tee boxers. The Wolf course is more dramatic and difficult as you can imagine than the Sun Mountain and personally I like it better. The best hole on the course is the #15 island hole IMO. See photos I posted. I think when you come to play Las Vegas Pauite Golf Resort, you owe it to yourself to play the Wolf…I wish I could have played all 18. If you keep the ball in play, it’s not as difficult as the name implies and always well worth the green fee. The practice facilities are exceptional and the clubhouse is magnificent. Highly Recommend.

For our second round on Friday, we played Wolf. The wind picked up (and so did the heat), but not as bad as it can get out here according to the legends. In the afternoon, it was pretty wide open here, so we enjoyed a nice quick pace. We ended up playing the gold tees, which is a reasonable distance at over 6,400 yards. Obviously, if you really want the full teeth of the Wolf you can play the blacks or the super duper tips. As a mid-handicapper playing from the golds and with mild winds, I found the course to be more forgiving than expected. I had really built this course up in my mind in terms of challenge and visual appeal, but was a tad underwhelmed on both of those aspects. Don't get me wrong, it's a fantastic course with some truly memorable holes like #15, but not as magical an overall experience as I was hoping for based on all the hype it gets.

As far as conditions, the course is in great shape just like Sun Mountain was. Nothing to complain about there, especially considering it's late in what's been a very hot summer in Vegas. Everything is pretty green, lush and excellent playability. Rough maybe a tad deeper here than on Sun—super thick rye grass that really grabs your club and will make you work. As one of the handful of facilities in the area that doesn't overseed, Paiute is a great option this time of year. Love the secluded feel of the property with no homes around and only rugged desert wilderness. Highly recommended.

Played Friday, 8/16 at 1pm to end the day at Paiute. Wolf was in the same great condition as last month. Fairways were lush, but wet. We got out just behind the afternoon water cycle. Rough is about 3 inches and thick. Difficult to get out of. Bunkers were fine, not thin and not heavy. Greens were fantastic. A little soft but fast. I actually had a 5 wood take one bounce and stop.

The difficulty of the Wolf was increased by the typical afternoon "breeze." I say breeze because it was either gusty, or nothing, averaging out to breezy. With the routing of the course, you get a different wind direction on every hole.

Customer service was great from start to finish. Enjoyed a great Buffalo Chicken sandwich between rounds. Water stations every 3 holes and the drink cart was around plenty of times all day (except for a lull on the front 9 of Wolf). Paiute is well worth the price.

Played on Saturday, 7/20, with a tee time just before 8. I had bought a DealCaddy foursome for $100 that was good anytime, any Paiute course. The course is in incredible condition for this time of year. Immaculate lush fairways, free of damage, with great lies and no dead spots. Rough was thick and varied from 1 to almost 5 inches. Bunkers looked a little compact and "heavy." Greens were in terrific shape, with little amount of ball marks and no sign of being punched last month. They may have been a bit slower than typical desert greens, but matched the practice green. Customer service was great. Bags have to be dropped in front, and the carts are set up and ready to go when you finish checking in. Starter was informative about the course, and had wet towels and tees. Drink cart was around almost every 3 holes and there's a snack shack at the turn. My only complaints were pace of play (5 hours) and the tee markers on #12 (lower tier, less than 1 club in front of a uphill rise).

Overall, Paiute Wolf is worth every penny and is a must play in Vegas. Course is challenging but fair. A few blind shots, and a couple of fairways with waste areas running through the landing areas. Holes run in every direction, so you get the typical Paiute wind (10-20 mph) from all sides as you make your way around. Perfect place for a GK event (please!).

Played 4th of July while visiting Vegas with Alaksana. Tee time of 6:18am and we were paired with a very friendly local twosome that has played the course quite a bit so their helpful knowledge came in handy. POP right on 4 hours.

Check in was smooth and quick. Clubhouse is huge and pro shop well stocked with everything you need. Cart attendants loaded our bags from the bag drop area and brought our carts around back while we checked in. Starter was one of the friendliest we've ever encountered. So everything was great before we even started!

Tees- Tips (Green tees) were great and other boxes looked to be in wonderful shape as well.

Fairways- As others have mentioned, like hitting off carpet. In fact they were so nice that for the first couple holes I was actually trying not to take a divot! Haha! Best that I've played from in a very very long time.

Greens- Flawless. Perfect med-fast pace and rolling so true. Our group must have made at least 12-15 putts of over 20ft. So amazingly pure!

Rough- Not that long but definitely lush and thick. If your ball is sitting down, best to take your medicine and get it back in play. Do not try to bite off more that you can handle.

Bunkers- Well maintained and manicured. People actually rake after themselves here! What a novel concept!!!

Layout- Fantastic layout of all the courses here. To take a flat piece of land and have that many swales and undulations is incredible. Often times you couldn't even see other holes around you.

Misc.- 15 hole island green is worth the trip alone. 182 yards from the green tees. Knocked it on but a long way from home. Was able to two putt for par and leave happy! Plenty of beverage cart passes and water stations which are needed in the summer heat. BEWARE- LOTS of wasps, hornets, and other stinging creatures out right now. If your ball ends up in the areas off the cart path, just let it go. Saw one guy in the group ahead stir up a nest or something like that. Not worth it and who knows if there's also any snakes in there as well. The starter mentioned that he had been stung several times in the past week and warned us before we started. Best to heed that advice! Overall we LOVED the course and can't wait for our next trip to Vegas to play here again.

First time golfing in Las Vegas...July 07, 2013 This is such a beautiful course. Enjoyed a wonderful time. Tee boxes, fairways, rough, fringe and greens were very well kept. Luckily it was not that hot Fairways...lots of undulation but nicely mowed and short grass Traps are easy to get out of. I was in a few of them Rough are under 1" in the 1st cut while 2-3" in the 2nd cut. Not too bad to get out from. Greens were re-seed not too long ago I think since you will find that the grass are growing in. Thus, making them a bit slower than usual from what I've heard from other golfers Hole #15 (Island Green), Par 3, Yellow Tee-145yds...stuck it in the middle and two-putts for par. It was very intimating with mild head wind made this hole much tougher to play. Overall, it was the best First time experience golfing in Vegas. Played 6/28 morning. Man, if you want the desert golf at its peak, play Paiute. It was my first time playing Paiute and I was blown away by the mere fact that out of nowhere in the desert they can keep this beautiful golf course with meticulous condition.
Hitting on the fairway felt like heating off a nice fluffy carpet. From teebox to green, everything was well kept and maintained. Those greens are fast, real fast. Now I know what the PGA tour pros have to deal with the tour greens!
Customer service from bag drop to bag return was all top notch. My hats off to Paiute for making my first Paiute experience an excellent one to remember. It's definitely worth 30 minute drive from the strip.
