Played 10/21/16 with all GolfNow singles for $14. Course was cart path only due to overseeding and the bit of rain we got. I should've walked it. I was really impressed with the superb condition of the practice green and so happy to see that translate over to the course. Greens are fully healed from the recent aerating. Fairways should fill in from the overseeding but still managed to find some good grass for the most part. Rough, around greens mostly, was super long almost Torrey South like and penal but the marshall said they were mowing soon. The infamous #4 par 3 green is still under repair and they have a temporary hole about 130 yds from the black tees. Land in the circle for automatic birdie! This is normally a challenging 160 yard three tiered green surrounded by bunkers so it will be great to play it once the green is fixed. Hole #14 par 5 green was much improved too. All in all, very glad to have a green Eastlake to add back in the rotation of cheap courses to play! The staff is friendly and the cafe has good food along with $6.50 Pacifico tall boys which I've never seen before. All tall 24oz cans are $6.50 of the usual domestic varieties and of course they have craft beer cans and drafts on tap too.

Played Ivanhoe last week and I must say the course is in much better condition since I played here a few years ago. Had to stay away for awhile as the greens were in really bad shape and a lot of the course is dug up. Not sure what their plan is for these GUP areas. the new superintendent has done some great work in getting the greens back to nice, playable conditions. Still a mixture of grasses but they looked like they'd been mowed and rolled recently. No birdies on the day a disappointment as I had plenty of opportunities and putts rolled true so no excuses there! Patchy fairways and mostly low-cut rough but pretty green and the fringe/collar areas around greens were nice (made for a lot of great bump and run chips into one-putt saves). Bunkers are hard pan. Nice cart girl service with $4 16oz Pizza Port beers and Thursday 50 cent wings all day plus a few other cheap happy hour appetizers. Great bar service with TVs for sports too. Very cheap GolfNow Hot Deal times; I'll definitely be back soon!

Absolutely beautiful views and tip top course conditions! Everybody is right: it's well worth the drive! Played a couple weeks ago on a $50 GN Hot Deal time around 11:30am. Took me around 1.5 hrs to get there from Mission Valley area. I hadn't done the drive thru Julian off the 8 to 79 in a long time and I might go the 67 to 78 route next time, as half of it is very rural and slow thru the mountains. The jerk behind me rode my tail the entire way even though I was driving over the speed limit and he waited until I got to the 78 to floor it 100mph past me. So, be careful out there!

First time playing here and I was thoroughly impressed from the minute I stepped out of the car, greeted by friendly staff with a cart who loaded my bag. Glenn in the pro shop greeted me by name and off to the putting green & range I went to warm up. All grass range with pyramid-stacked ProV1 Practice balls. Also, they have a really nice chipping green with a lot of room and all sorts of lies and hole location set ups you might experience out on the course.

Played the Gold tees at 6,830 yds. It was hot and I wasn't going to drink beer but the cart girl, Jane, was very nice and I picked up two Ballast Point Sculpins (bottles @ $6 each) to start the round. What the hey! I was supposed to be joined by another guy (a regular, Skip) and played the first four holes by myself. Watch out for rattlers, too! Between #1 and #2 I spooked a baby one on the cart path that shot like hell back into the bushes as I slammed on the brakes! Wish I was wearing a GoPro or something. That was thrilling and made for a quick tee shot off #2 par 5!

Then I got lost between #4 and #5 and caught up to Skip once I found my way back to #5 par 3. Stuck a nice tee shot to 5ft and made birdie and Skip parred. From then on, we both had a blast out there together, playing decent golf and he busted out the Fireball shots (maybe not the best idea in hindsight!). It was great playing with Skip, especially since he knew the course well and shared tips on landing/layup areas and break tendencies, etc.

We finally caught up to a foursome around #15 but finished in 3.5hrs. We even met the superintendent, Steve, when we were waiting on #18 and he and his son were finishing #17 behind us. Everybody was really friendly and easy going out there, which made for a very enjoyable round.

Make sure you sign up for the e-club to get your FREE Birthday round (on actual day only; and plus $20 cart fee)!!!

Played 5/13 on a GN Hot Deal time for $25 at 9am. There was a Underpar.com twosome deal for $40 out there recently too. First time playing here and the reviews I read warned about very windy conditions but I didn't experience anything too strong. Temp around 95* with mild winds and a somewhat cooling breeze.

Played the gold tees at 6,614 yds. It's a links style course with a tight bunch of holes on the front nine, opening up to a little more open hole layouts on the back nine. There are some blind tee/ approach shots so local knowledge would've helped me score better, as I lost a couple balls out there. Overall very nice conditions. Made a couple birdies down the stretch as I got used to the greens so that was cool. Nice mixture of straight-away holes and doglegs. Great par 3's too!

Staff was friendly and attentive. It looks like they are going to build homes/condos in 2017 but not sure of the location relative to the course layout. I hope they keep them away from the holes though.

Pace was very fast 3.5 hrs in a cart. Would definitely recommend Desert Dunes as maybe one of your last rounds on the way out of Palm Desert, back to SoCal areas. Play a morning round and beat the rush hour traffic. My commute from San Diego both ways (stayed at the Holiday Inn Express off the 111 and this was my last course of three played) took only 2 hours cruising at around 80mph, where applicable. Fun trip.

First time playing here and walked IW Players course on 5/12 for the $25 walking rate I found out about on GK from the previous reviewer! Awesome tip! Thanks! I finished up Desert Falls CC around the corner w/ cart in 3.5 hrs as a threesome and I really wanted to fit in IW and drove the short 10 minute drive to IW and walked right on at about 4:25pm as a single.

Staff was friendly and gave me a lift up to the tee box where the starter, Stan, gave me some quick tips and off I went. Played the Orange tees (6538 yds) and they have 7, yes 7, sets of tees with Cabernet (black) tipping out at 7376! Yikes! The Blues were 6913 and really made a big difference on a number of holes from what I could tell. It was hot as hell and I was very thankful for the ice & water machines every 3 or 4 holes. I'm used to walking Balboa Park GC and Torrey Pines but the heat and fatigue from already playing 18 holes earlier definitely got to me at the turn. The pro shop guy pointed out how I could walk back from #16 if I couldn't finish (fatigue or darkness) but I powered thru it and finished just as darkness fell 7:50pm.

As a single, I didn't catch a group until #15 par 5, even with a foursome in carts behind me (they skipped over to #17), which slowed me down a bit but I was happy to take a breather for my approach shots the rest of the way in! Especially after the long walk uphill between #16 and #17, and to #18.

It wasn't too windy, and most of the holes weren't too challenging until the stretch of #15-#18 as the setting sun was blinding and some local knowledge of fairway bunkers/trouble would've definitely helped me avoid extra strokes! I caught every fairway bunker on #14, 15 and 16 where 3 wood off the tee and/or knowing the landing areas better would've been a huge advantage. #17 par 3 (18 hcp; 144 yds) was super easy and a much needed break after walking up that hill then #18 got me as I mistakenly thought the maroon/red flag was front pin but was actually back and I took too much club and ended up in the huge bunker behind the green. Oh well, I was just happy to take my two-putt bogey and call it a night! This course is definitely worth walking for only $25! And the pro shop guy offered me a cart rate for $40 but I'm glad I got the exercise and finished.

Really cool track! Awesome conditions right now too!

Played 5/12 on a Golfnow Hot Deal 12:36pm time for only ~$32. Temperature around 95 degrees. First time playing here and all the staff I encountered were very friendly in welcoming me to Desert Falls CC. Got my cart and putted/chipped and met my playing partners (two local guys; super nice guys Jeff & Earl!) then hit the range to hit around 20 balls (included). Very nice views from the clubhouse & practice areas. We tee'd off right on time with some helpful tips from the starter, Marty, we were on our way quickly. I played Blues at 6687 yds. The first half of the front 9 was kinda tight and straight forward layouts for the most part. Everything was in awesome shape. Greens rolled true.

I chose Desert Falls because of the reviews saying it was a links style course and it was a lot of fun! I could see on a more windy day it would be more challenging especially on the back nine where the holes are more exposed (#12 par 3 #3 hcp). The locals I played with were very helpful with tips on tee shots and breaks on the green. I guess we got lucky with pin placements that day because there were definitely some more challenging areas of the greens they pointed out which would be a nightmare to shoot at and then try to two-putt!

There are a good mix of straight-away holes and dogleg holes to make things interesting. Oh, and water on #9 par 5 and #18 par 4; my only 3-putt on the day to finish :(

I highly recommend this course! Shared the few pics I took. It's in awesome condition right now!

Played today, 10/19/15 on a GolfNow Hot Deal for $25 at 1:45pm. Got out just past 1pm (pro shop guy Alex let me go early) and joined a single who was making the turn. Played Ranch/Meadow combination as Canyon was undergoing maintenance. I really like this place. I posted a review a few months ago and wanted to check it out again today. They are doing a big water conservation project were they are cutting out 10% of the fairway areas (ala Carmel Mtn Ranch but not as extreme), and I cannot wait until everything is finished and the new plants grow. Like CMR, I would expect this place to look incredible in a years time or so, once all the new vegetation grows. I didn't take any pictures, sorry. The Ranch/Meadow combo had been aerated a couple weeks ago and the greens were fine. Tee boxes, fairways and greens were in good shape.

I commend the staff for addressing the bunkers and adding new sand but right now it is very fluffy and your ball plugs every time you land in one. I assume it will settle and compact a over time so your ball wont plug. Avoid all bunkers for now, and best of luck getting out of one with a good result!

Staff was awesome. Pace of play was under 4 hours on a weekday twilight. Steele Canyon will continue to be one of my favorite courses in San Diego! The superintendent is doing great work here right now.

Finally got to play this track a few times last month on GolfNow Hot Deal times in the late afternoon/twilight for ~$40-$50 per player, and the Champions course is WAY better than the Legends course. I didn't know they used to play a WGC PGA Match Play event here (check Google and Youtube for some videos circa 2000's). I wasn't into golf back then but I really wish I would've caught Tiger and Davis Love III & Sergio out here! This is a very beautiful, challenging track (even after a redesign)! It is a lot harder than the Legends course. I would definitely shoot for a deal on the Champions course instead of the Legends. The Legends course was closed for maintenance so the Champions course was played heavily during the last month or so, showing the normal conditions such as beat up tee boxes and greens. Fairways and rough were in good shape. The greens were still good, just a little bumpy and very firm. I struggled with speed until the back nine. Staff was awesome and I played with fellow GolfNow'ers so everybody I was paired with enjoyed the benefit of a cheap round on a $150+ course normally. I will definitely come back if I could get a similar rate. This is one of the best courses in San Diego! A local guy said they are working on cutting out some fairway areas (in front of tee boxes ala Carmel Mtn Ranch) to conserve water and I would expect this place to be in tip top condition in a few months. A true gem!

Played 8/25 on a very cheap TeeOff.com time ($16) at 12:30pm. I know they have lots of tournaments here and unfortunately I caught it on one of those days. The rain was light and stopped around 11am so no issue there. I'm not sure how much the course got before that but it was very muddy. Arrived about an hour early and got off at 12:19pm right behind the 70 player shotgun which started at noon. Played with a twosome.

Not sure what the guy who posted the last review in late July about ATV damage on all the greens was talking about. Unless he was referring the the fungus problem. Was he talking about four wheeler damage from a vandal? I saw no evidence of any such damage other than what looked like some maintenance vehicle damage in a few areas around some greens but it was really muddy all over the course. They have a bad drainage issue here. Be careful where you step!

For the rate I paid, it was worth it. But you guys should definitely be aware of the poor greens conditions at Eastlake right now. #2 my ball landed short of the green and plugged into the muddy fringe completely. Very soggy lies all over most of the areas around the greens and this was the first hole where I noticed the fungus stuff taking over the green. Tons of ball marks, most left unrepaired by clueless golfers. This wasn't just from the scramble tournament. No way. I see the note here about them punching in early Sept. It is MUCH needed!

The greens are super soft/fragile and even the simple repair of the ball mark seems to dig up mud like the green can't even handle it.

#4 is the worst green on the course. I think the fungus is taking over the whole thing. I have no idea what it takes to fix this but it seems like the whole green needs to be redone. It's bad, guys. Really bad. Worse than the Carlton Oaks debacle a few years ago.

#13, #14 and #17 have the fungus problem too. #14 par 5 is really bad.

A lot of the tee boxes were beat up and the fairways bare in many spots. Often times, the rough was a better lie than the fairway.

Cart girl was nice, saw her once on the front, twice on the back.

We played behind the last group of the scramble and they really slowed down starting on #13, which was expected. We finished in about 4 hours 45 mins.

I'll be back once the greens are improved. The practice greens are really nice and there is a chipping area and grass range so they have that going for them right now.

Played here for the first time last Monday, 8/3 (Legends Course) on a spur of the moment GolfNow Hot Deal for $40 at 2:40pm. I couldn't believe the price so I had to try it @ 70% off. I read the last review here so I just followed signs to self-parking, which was really easy (veer left), then you have to walk back 150 yards to the resort entrance. It was a little confusing at first because there is a bunch of shops on the right and swimming pool/ water slide to the left and I had to ask a friendly staff member to guide me to the pro shop down some stairs. A guy loaded my bag, I checked in and proceeded to the range to hit free balls off mats. Then I quickly noticed there was a large chipping area w/ bunkers and a grass range on the far side so I got some practice in for about 45 mins before checking w/ the starter. He let me go out by myself an hour ahead of my scheduled tee time. Awesome. Course conditions were excellent. Layout was somewhat challenging w/ tight fairways on the front nine. The back nine was beautiful, more open, but still had lots of creek trouble/ trees/ bushes, hazards etc. I forget which holes but one par 5 played really short but a par 4 played like a par 5 into the wind. The halfway house had a ice/water machine so that was a huge bonus as it was near 90* so I filled up my Gatorade bottle and grabbed a couple beers. Friendly staff. Saw the cart girl at least twice on the back nine, Katie, and told her how great the course is and how stoked I was to find a very affordable price. She even bought me a beer on her last visit, thanking me for my business and I told her I'd definitely recommend LC Legends to all my friends and we'll try to get a similar rate next time. I checked for a weekend Hot Deal time and it was around $80, which is a little too steep. But a weekday foursome around $40 might be doable in the future (maybe just because it's been so hot lately?). I'd like to play the Champions course next time. Pace of play by myself was super fast. Didn't catch up to another group until the last three holes and still finished in under 4 hours. Be on the lookout for cheap rates here and jump on it!

After reading Long4Par's review the other day I found a GolfNow Hot Deal time for $26 for today at 1:45pm (5/6/15). I know they aerated a few weeks ago and his positive review of the course conditions convinced me to take advantage of the awesome rate on GN. It's usually not that cheap. I was very impressed with the conditions! Greens have healed well and rolling true. I ended up playing with another guy got same GN deal as a twosome and they let us go off about 20 mins early starting on Canyon. Caught up to a foursome a few holes in but they played fast. It was pretty wide open out there today. At the turn, we jumped over to Meadow and finished the round in about 3.5 hrs. My kind of golf!

Do you guys know about their new Happy Hour specials? It's EVERY DAY from 3pm to close! The highlight was $3 Stone IPA on draft. You just can't beat that anywhere else. Your first pitcher is $9.99 (probably limited to domestic; didn't ask). The bartender mentioned appetizers like sliders, wings, quesadillas etc but I didn't get any food or ask about pricing. Will definitely have to go back soon and try the apps and more drink specials next time!

I played here on 3/21/14 and the conditions were very much improved over some past experiences the last couple of years. You may have read or heard about the huge debacle they had with a former superintendent who killed all the greens. They installed new greens about a year ago and I remember it was in fantastic shape for a few months but the greens went south again and it was not a fun experience at all. Well, the greens are back in great shape and I had a awesome time out on the course last Friday. I found a golfnow hot deal time for only $26 at noon and my buddy and I finished in about 4.5 hours. Not too bad. It backed up on a few holes but overall we had a blast out here on a challenging course which forces you to shape the ball a lot. This isn't a point-and-shoot course by any means. There are some blind tee/approach shots, lots of trees, water, bunkers, and the windy conditions make this a very fun track to play. If previous reviews have made you hesitant to try Carlton Oaks, I would highly recommend you give it a shot again. Oh yeah, and the bar remodel turned out very nice. Plenty of big screen TVs and friendly staff to accommodate your beverage needs. I haven't tried the food yet but I saw many folks eating inside and out on the patio or in the lounge area watching all the March Madness games. Hats off to the Carlton Oaks staff for a job well done on improving the course conditions and remodeling bar area! I will be back after the upcoming aeration, for sure!
