Got to play SGCC again, and was again impressed by its condition and maintenance. Another Classic Beauty in LA County!

SGCC is a mature championship style course that features large mature trees that line fairways and well placed bunkering. The course is completely flat and not very long, even from the tips, about 6500 yards. As with other reviewed LA private courses, the land use is maximized to accommodate the golf course. This course runs through localized housing, so if playing here stay in play, or you may cause property damage.

SGCC offers narrow fairways that are lined with rough and trees. Greens are generally small in size and firm. From tee to green this course calls for accuracy over distance. The course has tall grabbing rough and is well bunkered on fairways and along green sides. Mature trees can also block you out if you miss fairways. The course played it's yardage, fairways offered as little roll out as I have seen. The course was in excellent condition. The course layout is rated a 4.0 out of 5, conditions are rated a 4.75 out of 5. I note the following:

Tee Boxes: Level and lush, no damage. Perfect.
Fairways: Green and lush. Almost perfect.
Greens: Green, fast in speed, and on the firmer side. Almost perfect. Speed about an 11.
Sand: Well maintained, soft, and heavy.
Rough: Well maintained and defined, about 3 - 5 inches.
Driving Range: The range was very nice, but short. Hitting off tight grass, but no driver or woods allowed if you hit over 250 yards.
Practice Putting Green: Not too large, but in excellent condition. Speed was consistent with course.
POP: 3.0 hours – no wait was encountered on any hole.
Other: locker rooms, bars, restaurant, and the golf shop, all were excellent, as expected.

Will certainly not pass up playing this close to immaculate conditioned track when given the opportunity. It is always in excellent shape, and a challenging yet fun test of golf.

Excellent day of golf at Oakmont CC.

Enjoyed a round of golf at OCC, and all I can say is; She is a Classic Beauty! OCC is a mature championship style course that features large mature trees that line fairways strategically. The course is primarily flat and includes a large wash that comes into play on at least 6 holes. This is certainly a walkable course for all.

Like most private courses in LA County, the land use is maximized to accommodate the golf course. OCC places premium on accuracy off the tee and into greens. The rough on this course will kill your score if you miss fairways and greens. You need to avoid it at all cost, or pray for good lies. This course puts real emphasis between its narrow to mid-sized fairways and rough. The course is also well bunkered on both fairways and along greens. Greens were fairly firm, always held good shots, and ran fast.

The course is primarily flat with the exception on holes 1 and 3 which had mild elevation changes. The course offers views of the Glendale Mountains and localized housing, which are both very attractive.

The course played it's yardage, fairways offered very little roll out on drives. The course was very well manicured and in excellent condition. The course layout is rated a 4.25 out of 5, conditions are rated a 4.75 out of 5. I note the following:

Tee Boxes: Level and lush, no damage. Perfect.
Fairways: Green and lush. Almost perfect.
Greens: Green, fast in speed, and on the firmer side. Some of the best greens I've played, almost perfect. Speed about a 11 – 11.5.
Sand: Well maintained, soft, and heavy. Explosion approach needed.
Rough: rough was brutal by design. Very well maintained and defined, about 4 - 6 inches with bury effect.
Waste Areas: - Waste areas were noted on a handful of holes, and were well maintained overgrown nature with little to no recovery potential.
Driving Range: The range was also very nice, hitting off an artificial turf surface on this day. Range is flat, fully grassed, with various markers from 100 - 250 yards. Range balls were premium Callaway golf balls, very posh.
Practice Putting Green: Not too large, but in excellent condition. Speed was consistent with course.
POP: 3.5 hours – no wait was encountered on any hole.
Other: from locker rooms, bars, restaurant, and the golf shop, all were top tier.

I love playing here when given the opportunity, this course is always in excellent shape, and offers a formidable test of golf. It defines itself well as a Classic Players Course. If given the opportunity, don't miss out on playing OCC.

Enjoyed a Terrific-Tuesday of Golf with the GK Gurus at WRGC. I can best describe WRGC as a fun Players Course. Here’s my take:

WRGC is a very well-designed course that places premium on accuracy off the tee and into greens. This is not a golf course that can be negotiated with if you're too arrant with the golf ball. The course features clear definition between its mid-sized fairways and rough areas, well placed bunkering on fairways and proximate to greens, along with strategic water hazards, and fairly fast greens on this day, which I have seen faster in the past.

The course is primarily flat except for 7, 8, 16, and 17 which do offer elevation changes from tee to green, along with some attractive views of localized housing and grape orchards. The course lends itself towards a Championship Style layout, certainly a treat to play.

On this day wind speeds were calm, peaking at 10 -15 mph when gusting. The course seemed to play it's yardage for the most part. The course was well manicured and in above-average condition overall. The course layout is rated a 5 out of 5, conditions are rated a 4.33 out of 5. I note the following:

Tee Boxes: Level and lush, no damage. Sometimes the grass may have been a bit longer, no more than ½” an inch too long. No effect in this regard.

Fairways: Green at times tight, some very limited areas were undergoing sod repair which appeared to be maintenance related.

Greens: Green, medium-fast in speed, and medium softness as all good shots checked and spun desirably. No damage observed. Speed about a 10 – 10.5.

Sand: Well maintained and firm. Rakes were present.

Rough: rough was well defined from the fairway and green collars but not too overgrown, about 2 – 4 inches. Didn’t experience the burying effect in the rough, fortunately.

Waste Areas: - Waste areas were abundant on various holes, and did not offer the opportunity of recovery from such due to their overgrown nature, not to mention the possible presence or rattlers.

Driving Range: The range is stunning, despite hitting from mats. You are on an elevated perch hitting into a grass valley with green markers at 100, 150, 200, 225, and 250 yards. Range ran out at about 300ish. Range balls were your typical yellow rangers, but in very good condition. Hitting from this range was a real treat, if you enjoy the pre-round or post-round experience of hitting golf balls.

Practice Putting Greens: Both practice putting greens are ample and very well maintained. They seemed faster than the course greens, and more like the speed I have encountered when I previously played here.

POP: 4.5 hours – no wait was encountered on any hole; it was simply our group’s own pace. I enjoyed the group's time, certainly.


The WRGC facility included a bar / restaurant for members, snack bar at the turn, and a very nicely stocked pro shop. Service received at these venues was excellent. I met the Membership Director – Janet, she was very professional, warm, and welcoming. If looking to join a quality golf club with the emphasis on golf this is a really good one, you should give Janet a call or email.

All in all, really enjoyed this course and certainly wish I could play it more often. If I lived a bit closer, this would be my club due to how much I enjoy the track and the strategy of playing it. It certainly suits a player's eye, with no holes that offer deficiency, granted some are created better than others, with most being better.

In conclusions, I certainly endorse playing this track if given the opportunity. Looking forward to my next visit here. Thank you GK for the outing.

Played BHGC this week and it was an excellent golf experience.

Upon arrival to the moment I departed, I received incredible service. Upon arriving I was greeted and my bag was taken by bag drop. At the snack bar and pro shop the service was also warm, receiving, and just great overall. The snack bar had good golf course typical food items, and drinks for days. The pro shop was very well stocked with merchandise and very nicely kept.

As for the golf, this was a very fun golf course that required better than average shot execution. I played from the tips, we had wind speeds between 10 - 15 mph which made the course play longer than the yardage for the most part. The course was well manicured and in very good condition overall. The course layout is rated a 5 out of 5 (great use of the available land), conditions are rated a 4.5 out of 5. I note the following:

Tee Boxes: Level and lush, no damage
Fairways: Green at times tight, no damage
Greens: Green, medium-fast, no damage (10 - 10.5 in speed)
Sand: Well maintained and firm (appeared like new sand was recently brought in to refill bunkers)
Rough and Waste Areas: Rough not very penal (1 - 2 inches) - Waste areas were large with hard sand, rock, and various types of plant life. Well maintained and attractive to see, but not fun to hit from.
Driving Range: Hitting into a 20 yard net of a turf surface. It worked for warm up, but a driving range would have been nice. It was nice for what it was, but certainly not a highlight if you enjoy the pre-round driving range experience as I do.
POP: 4.25 hours - waited briefly on 3 holes (Wednesday 11 AM)
Other: Airport noise was frequent, unfortunately. I blocked it out, and only had it affect me on 1 shot. This was the only knock on the place, but certainly not a big deal if engaged with your golf game.

The course is a flat hybrid desert / tropical style track that has been enhanced with creativity and charm to make it a golf oasis along the South Strip of LV. Despite being generally flat, there were plenty of fairway undulations, and tee box and green elevation changes. Most holes holes have great views of the surrounding strip, which add a bit of nostalgia to the golf experience. The course itself is certainly eye candy to the golfer's eye due to the overall excellent maintenance and well presented layout.

If playing here, you will need to hit fairways to keep your score reasonable. Premium is placed on hitting a good tee ball, to have a shot at the green. On most holes, if you miss the fairway you will likely not have a shot at the green. Good news is fairways are not too tight. Greens were usually medium in size and medium to firm to all shots. Both greens and fairways were strategically bunkered for protection, with greens often times crowning to the terrain. There were also a few lakes / water hazards that keep you in check on some holes, they were certainly attractive hazards.

The practice putting and chipping green was great, as was the scene and vibe of the golf course. We started on time and noticed 1 Marshall on the course during our round, on 2 occasions. It was a bit pricey to play here and worth the money; certainly a must play golf course if in LV. I will play next time I visit, again.

Played TPGCS three weeks ago, it was a great test of golf. I played from the back tees (not the PGA tees) and had all I could handle, even with wind speeds under 10 mph.

The course was in good condition and in preparation for the US Open. It was notable the course was greening up from winter conditions. The course layout is rated a 5 out of 5, conditions are rated a 4.25 out of 5. I note the following:

Tee Boxes: Level and lush, no damage
Fairways: Greening up and at times tight, no damage
Greens: Greening up, firm, fast, no damage
Sand: Well maintained, soft and heavy
Rough and Waste Areas: Tall rough (over 4 - 5 inches) very penal
Driving Range: off old worn and divoted mats on uneven concrete. The range was below average.
POP: 4.5 hours - waited briefly on 2 holes (Monday 11 AM)

The course is an ocean style track with many holes running along the Pacific Ocean cliff line, remaining holes are inland with most offering beautiful views of the Pacific Ocean.

The course is moderately undulated and does offer some elevation changes. The layout is very scenic and demanding off the tee and fairway. Premium is placed on hitting fairways and greens, or your ball is eaten by rough or deep bunkers, as fairways and greens tend to be crowned in their design. Greens were usually medium in size, firm to all shots, layered, and fast (11ish).

Both greens and fairways were strategically bunkered for protection, significantly. Course plays much longer due to the heavy marine layer, played shots 10-15 yards longer than normal yardage.

As previously noted, the driving range was below average. To put it bluntly, it was brutal. Major divot damage on mats and significant sloping and cracking to the surface below. Could not believe this was the case at a course with this allure. Practice putting green was immaculate.

Food was amazing at the restaurant, with an expansive menu. A must visit after the round, if your willing to pay the premium.

Service received was excellent. We started on time and noticed 1 Marshall on the course during our round. It was very expensive to play here; certainly a must play golf course and worth the money for a special occasion if you have a decent game.

Enjoyed Sandpiper GC 2 weeks ago with a Monday afternoon tee time. We played it from the tips and wind speeds were under 10 mph. An excellent Monday!

The course was in good condition and is greening up from winter conditions. The course layout is rated a 4.5 out of 5, conditions are rated a 3.0 out of 5. I note the following:

Tee Boxes: Level and generally lush, no damage
Fairways: Greening up and at times tight, no major damage
Greens: Green, medium to fast, no damage
Sand: Reasonably maintained, both soft and hard
Rough and Waste Areas: Tall rough and waste areas are very penal on stray shots
Driving Range: Closed for reasons unknown to man - very lame
POP: 4.5 hours - waited briefly on 6 holes

The course is an ocean style track with several holes running along the Pacific Ocean cliff line, remaining holes are inland with most offering beautiful views of the Pacific Ocean. The course offers a few elevation changes and blinds shots that keep things interesting. The layout is very scenic and an overall fun playing track for a decent golfers.

This course requires reasonable accuracy off the tee into midsized fairways that are lined with heavy rough; along with waste areas, trees, or cliff sides. Greens tend to be medium in size and run medium to fast, often breaking towards the ocean, and always held good shots. Both greens and fairways were strategically bunkered for protection, but not excessively. Course plays a bit longer due to heavy marine layer, play shots 5-10 yards longer than normal yardage.

For no justifiable reason, this course has had the driving range closed for over 1 year, absolutely silliness and beyond lame. One practice putting green remains open, so visit a driving range in the area prior to playing, they are all open.

Snack shack offers food, snacks, and drinks.

Service received was really good. We started on time and noticed 1 Marshall on the course. If your willing to pay the full pop on the green fee, this course is recommended.

Played ANGC 2 weeks ago with an early morning tee time. The course was in good condition and appears to have greened up from winter conditions. Rated a 4.0 out of 5 overall. I note the following:

Tee Boxes: Level and semi-lush, no damage
Fairways: Greening up and tight, no damage
Greens: Greening up, firm, and fast, no damage
Sand: Well maintained and soft
Rough and Waste Areas: Well maintained and defined
Driving Range: Off grass and in good condition
POP: 4 hours (Thursday)

The course is a desert layout that requires reasonable control off the tee and into greens. Greens roll fast but hold good shots. ANGC is an excellent layout that can be enjoyed by any decent golfer. I recommend this course, especially if a discounted rate is found.

On a side note, restaurant is not open, but the snack shack does offer limited food, snacks, and drinks.

The only negative from my round was the service received by the desk starter, he was not polite or customer service orientated. Surprising that a nice course like this does not have better service. But nonetheless, the course is a solid players layout and worth the experience.

Played Knollwood CC this past Thursday. Course was in above average condition, which was unexpected due to the recent heatwave.

Driving range was nice but off mats, tee boxes were lush and sometimes a bit unlevel (not too bad), fairways were lush and green, rough was either very present and overgrown or not present at all and dry, greens were medium and mostly smooth with very limited bumpiness. Restaurant bar was very nice for a post round drink. Beers were a bit too expensive but service was excellent.

If you are in the area, Knollwood CC is a fun course to play, where you need to keep it relatively straight as you do not have parallel fairway bailout here. Its an attractive course with a solid layout.

I would consider Knollwood CC a 3.5 star out of 5.

Played Harding today with a 10:40 am tee time. We started only 8 minutes behind. Course was very busy, but still enjoyable. We waited on 9 holes, especially more on every par 3s. Overall playing time was about 5:30. Long day to say the least.

Course was in average to good shape. Fairways were nice, with mild bare spots. Same with rough. Tee boxes were green and thin at times, usually level, at times just a bit unlevel. Greens were smooth and medium in speed. No major damage spots noted. Lastly, sand was soft and reasonable to play out of.

Conclusion, this is a solid tree lined classic golf course. Very enjoyable track, given you have 6 hours in the day to play a round of golf. I endorse this track for its solid layout and slightly above average condition. I want to play again, but not with the described slow play conditions.

Played the Woodley today. Had a Saturday Morning 9 AM Tee Time. We almost started on time, teed off at 9:06 AM. Pace of play was reasonable for a Saturday morning round, 4 hours and 35 minutes. Slow down in play was because of the group of ahead of us. They were brutally slow and not exactly great ball strikers.

As it just rained this week, the course was wet as expected. Course was in good shape for an LA Muni. Tee boxes were green and level, fairways were green and full for the most part, rough was defined but patchy at times, greens were rolling well with minimal bumps that are expected at an LA Muni track, and the bunkers were fine though I fortunately did not visit one all round. Overall, I really enjoyed the course and the player friendly layout.

***Please note, they have re-opened the restaurant. It has been totally remodeled and modernized. The food was amazing! I had one of the best Tri Tip sandwiches I have tried in years. It tasted freshly smoked off the grill. I was advised that Woodley has a new chef who really takes pride in his craft and it showed in the flavor of the food. We were fortunate enough to later meet the chef and provide our compliments. Members of the my group had a gourmet burger, cabaret sandwich, and a Greek Salad. Totally top notch! If you take anything from my review, please try the new restaurant. It was a foodies delight.***

I really enjoyed my round at MMGC. This course is very well designed. It is tree lined with some elevation changes. Reminds me a bit of Industry Ike. A solid player's course, which puts premium on accuracy off the tee. Fairways are not too narrow, however you have rough and trees to contend with if you miss the short grass. Greens were medium/fast and smooth. Pace of play was 4.25 hours on a Friday. The course was in good shape. Practice facility was nice with a grass range, short game area, and large putting green. If you are in the area, this is a really good one. I would give 4.0 stars out of 5.0.

Played Trump on 10/23/09. It was just as great as the last time I played the course. Impacable conditions as always. A great ocean track.
