Played 10/20 with GKer dconnally, 7am tee time, we started a few minutes late. A twosome pulled up just as we were leaving the first tee to join us, they were playing the red tees which resulted in a somewhat uneven pace - total time was just under 4:45.

Overall conditions were good. Fairways were very good with little divot damage, tees ok (some not quite level). Rough was patchy, some lies between clumps very challenging and the thicker areas if the ball stayed on top it was pretty easy but if it settled you were in trouble. The only bunker I was in was ok, pretty wet but playable.

Greens rolled well but didn't hold really well unless you hit it perfect - biggest issue was a LOT of unrepaired ball marks, even that early in the day. Not sure what it is, but apparently those who play this course don't take the time to fix them - people, FIX YOUR BALL MARKS!!

Snack shop at the turn was open, cart girl came by twice, other service was very good. Other than the greens it is definitely worth the money but they really need to do something about all the ball marks.

This is kind of a composite review covering 3 recent rounds. Played 10/14, also played the week before and again 2 weeks before that.

Overall, I am seeing continual improvement in the conditions - not always fast, but steady. Greens were soft but rolled true, a little faster the last 2 weeks, getting smoother and more consistent. There are stll a few tee boxes with low/high or soft spots and a fare amount of divot damage on the par 3's but nothing major. Bunkers are still the biggest weakness - weeds growing in most and fairly hard - on the other hand drives will often roll out and/or jump over the lip so take the good with the bad. Rough has grown in, some places it's "pitch out and try to make par the hard way" thick.

Biggest issue the last 2 weeks was POP - this week was 4:25 but seemed like a lot longer since we were stuck behind the Senior Men's club waiting on about 80% of our shots. Week before was a smidge quicker but not much. Late morning or early twilight can often be as quick as 3:-3:15.

While it's unlikely it will ever get back to the "Landmark" condition it had years ago, it's a fun course with lots of variety. Given the price point, it's definitely worth it.

Played 9/17 using an Underpar 2 player coupon with a free replay. Reviewing course conditions is useless - the course is closing Monday for over-seeding (scheduled reopening is 10/15). What is worth reviewing is the customer service. I was both quite disappointed and extremely pleased - BIG Kudos to Michael Chiappetta (the Managing Partner) for the gracious and professional manner in which he handled what could have been a very negative situation.

Here's what happened: I checked in at roughly 07:40 and everything seemed to go fine. Took the coupon, said just grab a cart and start when we were ready. By the time we were loaded up and had spent a few minutes on the practice green, we teed off about 8:10. My playing partner was a very dear friend who is just beginning the difficult journey called sobriety and also has some other, health related mobility issues. It was a beautiful day (pretty windy, but that's given for this location) so we took our time and didn't push. Normally my friend sits out 2-4 holes for health reasons, but he was able to play all 18 for the first time in nearly 3 years. As a result, our pace of play was slower than normal, but there weren't many people on the course and we let 3 groups/singles play through so as not to disrupt anyone else's round. Despite the conditions being pretty marginal, I very much enjoyed the course and layout.

When we finished 18, I helped him get loaded up to head home and I was going to go back out and replay the back 9. Played 10 and 11 but the flags had already been pulled out - after hitting my drive and approach on 12 my friend called - he'd left his wallet in the cart so I drove back to the lot to meet him (which is actually pretty close to the 12th fairway). After driving back out to 12 and parking the cart on my way to putt out and and finish the hole, a cart drove up and I was abruptly told the course was now closed and I had to come back in.

When I commented about the coupon, he stated I had been told when I checked in the course was closing early, which I immediately disputed. He then starting complaining that we'd taken too long to play the first 18 holes. At this point I was getting kinda irritated, both with the situation and his attitude. When I attempted to explain why we hadn't hurried, noting again I was not advised of any early closing, he became more aggitated - when I asked what was going to be done about the missed replay he stated "You only paid or 18 holes, the replay is optional and only "if available" so I was just out of luck, then dismissively added "you can go finish putting out then bring the cart in and unload your bag."

At this point I'm pretty pissed off - yes, it was a good rate but the replay was a big part of why I bought the coupon in the first place! I didn't NEED the coupon to get a good rate during summer at a desert course (in fact they had tee times for $10 on their website).

I drove in, unloaded at the bag drop and took the cart back. I then headed up the stairs to the Pro Shop as I wasn't yet finished with this. As I got to the top of the stairs, the gentleman standing there asked how I was doing and I replied "Not that good at the moment." He asked "What's the problem?" and I told him the short version of what had just transpired.

At that point he introduced himself and I learned I was talking to the Managing Partner, Michael. I explained I wasn't told of the early closing and if I had known we could have played quite a bit faster - he offered to stay by himself and close up if I wanted to go back out, but I'd have to do it without the pins. I told him I understand about closing early and didn't want him stuck here waiting for 1 golfer, I was just upset that no one said anything.

Without hesitation, he offered a round "on the house" which I could use at any time, even during the high season and asked if I'd like it to be for a single or a twosome. I said a single was fine - at which point he handed me his business card with a handwritten note for a free FOURsome!

This is a man who understands customer service and relations and we need more like him in the industry. Michael, if you read this, a big thank you - I WILL be back, and definitely for more than just the free round.

Walked on as a single for the weekday senior rack rate of $32. Got paired with a twosome playing the blacks, once we got past the group on front POP was good, 3:50 for 18.

The overall condition was fairly good but there were more exceptions than I've seen in years out here. Greens were good (as usual) but several fairways were quite patchy, some nearly bare spots and #6 was probably 30% weeds. Rough was also hit-and-miss. Normally this is a significant step up re: condition when compared to Hemet Golf Club but at the moment it's a pretty small step. Still a great value but hope the coming months will lead to better conditions.

Played 8/12 on a GN deal for $13, got paired up with "Terry" who was great to play with (and tried to recruit him to the site).

I was quite pleasantly surprised by the conditions. Fairways weren't lush but more than adequate, tees were level and in good condition (exception - #4, short par 3), rough was patchy in places tee-to-green, around the greens it was fairly lush and dense. Greens still have some damage issues but all but a couple were in areas that wouldn't affect play (exception - #18, still has some damage from an oil leak from a mower, but dramatically better than my last time here).

Bunker sand is still an issue, basically just hard pan for fairways and marginally better around the greens (solution - don't hit it in the bunkers! lon). POP was excellent, never saw anyone in front of us the entire round, had a twosome behind us for the first couple holes but left them behind after #3 - both of us hit an occasional 2nd ball for practice and we finished in about 3:05..

Sign up for their email club and you can get their weekly specials - definitely worth the money at their regular rates and HIGHLY recommended if you can get a discounted price.

First, a big shout out to Dan for hosting the GK Cup 7 finals!

I'd agree with lotrgolfer48's review regarding pretty much everything (though I'm not sure how he'd know about the rough around the greens since he hit all of them except one! lol).

Only thing I'd add is to emphasize how fast the fairways are running - if you hit a draw or low runner you'll get some pretty amazing roll-out (I think the greens are running about a 9 and the fairways are about a 7!). The downside of that is you can occasionally roll yourself into some places you'd rather not be (like the lake on #8).

Overall the course is in very good condition and offers a nice variety of holes. I'd be back if it wasn't such a long drive.

Played 7/30 at 1:30, quite humid and got to listen to the thunder from the nearby storms in the hills to the North but they never got close enough to be a threat. First time here, first time at a Nicklaus course, first time for anything nearby so this was a new experience in a lot of ways.

Course is in very nice shape. Only a couple things would fall below an "8" or "9". A couple tee boxes were a little chewed up and a couple others the grass was inconsistent (thicker in some areas, not so much in others). Also, rough tee-to-green had some patchy spots, nothing major but noticeable when the rest of the course was so good.

Greens rolled very true and consistent but a little slower than I'd prefer or am used to. Fairways are fast with good coverage - not lush or cushy but not too tight. Collars and short mowed areas around the green were well kept and allowed several shot options - miss it beyond that and it's pretty thick. Bunkers were nice, soft enough to not worry about getting stuck but not super fluffy.

Good mix of holes and lengths - short and long par 3's, 4's and 5's requiring different shots and strategies. Not surprisingly for a Nicklaus course, if you can hit a power fade you're in good shape on almost every hole. Native areas play like a lateral hazard, 1 stroke and drop - wood chip areas are a free drop (never thought I'd like wood chips on a course! lol)

Customer service was good, they give you a water bottle on the first tee and tell you to hang on to it - they have cold Sparklets dispensers in the restrooms where you can fill them as you progress. POP was decent at 4:20, could have been a little faster but not by much.

Challenging but fair at a decent price for the area = recommended.

Played 7/23 in the GK Plays with uncleddboy23 & chilipalmer99, joined by JohnnyGK on the back nine. Really enjoyed the layout and the practice area is first rate - you're hitting to greens with pins, having a target is nice. In the afternoons they turn it into a 6-hole short course and kids can play free! Range balls included, as is unlimited bottled water (extra available at several tees all around the course).

(Note - DEFINITELY take advantage of the great bunker practice area - trust me, you'll be sorry if you don't!).

Course was in very good Bermuda condition, a few areas near the greens that were a little soggy but that's about the only negative. Greens rolled true (a little slower than I'm used to but normal for a desert course during summer), rough wasn't that long but very uniform in length, bunkers are EVERYWHERE but all were in excellent shape (I was in enough to know - again, use the practice bunker area!). You don't want to be off the grass here, the desert areas lining most holes are very penal.

Service was very good, immediately took our bags and got them on carts and had them ready to pick up in front after the round. Refreshment cart made several appearances. POP was decent, could have been faster if we knew the course (and didn't spend so much time raking bunkers - USE THE PRACTICE AREA! LOL). Food was very good and reasonably priced.

Highly recommended if you're in the area.

Played 7/1 on a birthday coupon, $20 cart fee, range balls are included at this course.

Very nice track with lots of variety and challenge, don't get too far off the fairway or your ball is history. Got paired up with another single and we followed the Women's Club around the course. Either they've got some SERIOUS Women golfers or the superintendent must have gotten an IRS audit notice the night before - almost every pin was in a REALLY tough location with very little margin for error.

Overall, course was in very good condition with two glaring exceptions. #1 green had a BUNCH of unevenly re-sodded/repaired areas - I had a putt jump nearly 4 inches in the air when it hit one spot. #2 tee (Blue) had large areas with no grass, just sandy soil - probably due to it's location and not getting enough sunlight.

Only other aspects that wasn't up to the rest of the course were the collars and short rough around the greens. Fairly patchy and bumpy, if you were more than 2 feet off the green your only shot was a pitch/chip as there was no way to estimate speed rolling it through that stuff. Even chips/pitches were kinda iffy due to the lies. (I know, I know - hit it on the green and it doesn't matter!)

POP would have been about 4:15 but we spent some extra time looking for balls from stray shots by my companion.

If you play here very often your game is going to improve (you won't have much choice). Definitely recommended if you can get a good rate.

Played 6/18 in a GK Cup match with Thingstodo. First, BIG kudo's to the Oak Quarry staff for allowing us to continue the match after being tied at the end of 18. While the match ended on 19 they were ok with us playing 1-3 again to try and settle it. Very nice.

Course conditions were extremely good with only a couple minor exceptions. Fairways were fantastic, tees had very good coverage, even on the par 3's, greens rolled true and held shots well - more ball marks than I'd like, but that's not the course's fault (fix your ball marks people!)

Rough was just right - deep and dense enough that you'd rather not be there, but not "hack and hope" length. Pick the right club, make a really good swing and not try to do more than the lie would allow and you could still hit greens (or get up and down).

Only complaints were the lack of grass on the driving range, a few of the tee's were not quite level and there were a few bunkers that were either harder or wetter than the rest, but that's about it.

Cart girl was around 3-4 times, snack bar at the turn was open and all the staff were great as usual. Highly recommend playing while these conditions last (get an early time because it gets HOT out there).

Played 6/10, walked on and got out immediately as a single, used the email club Super Wednesday for a rate of $25 incl. cart. POP was roughly 3 hours & 20 minutes, but that included waiting on a couple different groups until they let me through and playing extra shots. Eliminate those and I could have easily been done in under 3 hours.

Course is in the best condition I’ve seen in a LONG time. Now, don’t confuse this with being in really good condition, or compare it to what this place used to be like – those days are long gone. However, when compared against 2-3 years ago it has improved significantly in what I think are the two most important areas – quality of the greens and consistency throughout the course.

Now for the details. Fairways were a little thin with mixed grasses - never had a super tight lie nor one I would call “cushy” but consistent from hole-to-hole. Rough is a mixed bag ranging from almost non-existent to fairly thick and dense. Bunkers near greens were adequate at best and quite heavy with water – fairway bunkers were even harder (but the flipside is they’re pretty easy to get out of).

Tee areas were pretty worn, definitely time to move the markers. One odd quirk – on many holes the markers were placed fairly close to each other (side to side, not from whites to blues) which contributed to how worn they were – just wasn’t much room to work with.

Now to the best part – the greens were in the best shape I’ve seen in at least 3 years. Even the number of ball marks was noticeably less than I expected (that’s always been a big issue at this course). They held shots very well, putted quite true and rolled pretty much the same over the entire course (another issue they previously struggled with). Speed could have been a little quicker from my perspective but that’s a personal thing – probably will need to keep the just a tad longer (and therefore slower) as the temps go up. Only bad spot is 18 – it’s still recovering from some damage – looks like they ran a mower across and back that was leaking oil (or it could have been vandalism).

It’s always been a fun track with a lot of variety between holes – given the current condition and pricing it’s definitely worth playing.

Played early today on a GN deal ($20 @ 7:12am), got paired up with "Jerry" from Menifee. 4 people had booked that time but we were there and ready before 7 so they got us out early. Weather was fantastic, couldn't have been better!

As usual, the course was in very good condition overall. Greens are almost completely recovered from maintenance, a little slower than normal and in need of a good rolling but still much better than most places.

Rough was not high, but quite thick and dense in most places, difficult to get good contact with anything more than about a 9-iron. Tees were good, even the par 3's didn't show much wear.

Biggest complaint is the bunkers - they've got good sand in pretty much all of them, but every one was either very firm or hard because of how wet they were (#11 in front is particularly bad). Stop watering them so much, they won't grow! lol

Service was good - they no longer let you take your cart out to the parking lot but you can drive it right up to the edge and they'll come pick it up from there.

Definitely recommended, and given their course conditions/pricing vs. the other "good" courses nearby it's a "no brainer" (even without the GN deal).

**Important note - range is never open Tuesday mornings, it's "clean pick and mowing" day** If you're the type that MUST warm up first, pick another day!
