Played the Stadium course back on 12-27-23 about 2 weeks before the AMEX tournament. The course was in excellent conditions. Due to the tournament being held in 2 weeks, it was cart path only, which can make playing any Pete Dye course difficult. The Course had just been overseeded a few months prior and the tee boxes, fairways and greens were pristine. If you have a chance, I would definitely recommend heading down to the desert and playing the Stadium course right now.

Played on 11-28-23. The course has just come back from overseeding and aeration that was completed on 10-19 this year, and is in amazing condition right now. Currently carts are cart path only for the next 2 months until right after the Farmers Insurance Open. The rough has definitely been grown out and I've been told will be getting longer leading up to the tournament. The greens were in good shape, and I cannot wait to see what they look like after the tournament. Be prepared to deal with a lot of construction going on during the round, as they are already setting up the grandstands and hospitality areas for the tournament in Jan. Great weather, playing partners, and score made for a great day. I am playing again 2 days after the Farmers Insurance Open, so I cannot wait to give a review on the course right after a PGA tournament.

Played here on Thanksgiving day. First time ever playing here, and I will definitely be back for another round. The staff here was very friendly. After I dropped my bag off, it was waiting for me at my cart and I made my way to the range. The range was on matts, but you were able to hit driver off the grass. The course was in great shape, having just been overseeded and aerated a month prior. The course was cart path only, which can make for a difficult round due to the topography opf the course (typical Pete Dye, no flat ground except the tee boxes) The greens were very receptive and also fast. Pace of play was not the greatest. I was able to play 17 holes, but it was too dark to play 18 since it was 5pm. All in all, it was a great day and I enjoyed the course and ammenitites.

Just played Goose yesterday 11-9-23. The course has just reopened from a month long closure for overseeding and aeration of the greens. The coure is in magnificent condition. The tee boxes, fairways, sand traps (luckily I wasn't in any of them lol) and rough were in top condition. My only complaint was the greens. You could tell they had been aerated a few weeks ago instead of a month ago. I had a few putts that should have gone in for birdie and par that missed out because they hit an aeration mark. The wind was crazy yesterday, blowing close to 20mph which made for a challenging but fun round. Can't wait to go back to Goose.

Played 9-12-23. This was a bucket list course for myself and my buddy. I have been fortunate to play 3 other courses that have held a US Open (the others were Riviera, LACC North, Pebble). We did not have a tee time that day, so we had to make the early morning pilgrimage to try to be the first one on the waitlist hoping to get out early. 2am we were on the way down to Torrey. We got into the parking lot at 3:45am and were the first people in the lot, we knew we were at least going to get out that day. We put our club by the door of the pro shop (this is the traditional way to reserve your space in line for the walk ups) The pro shop door opened at 5:45 and we were met by the starter. He asked which course we wanted to play. We chose the South Course. He told us that we were the 6:20am first tee time of the day and we were the rabbit setting the pace of the course for the day. We were also informed that the pin placements for the day were pin location 2, which were the hardest locations they have and the same ones used for the 2008 US Open final round. I will tell you that if you ever get a chance to be the first tee time of the day at the South Course, do it. It was magical walking the course while the sun was coming up and beautiful ocean views with no one playing in front of us. The course was in good shape. The rough was looking a little brown due to lack of watering, but the fairways and greens were in good shape. The greens were slow in the morning due to the morning dew and ocean air, but when it heated up they got some good speed, Id say around an 11. We played from the Brown tee boxes playing at 7015 in yardages. The black tees (tournament) are not even set up and are only playable by request. I asked what it would take and the starter on the first hole said, be a tour pro (course playes 7802 from those tees) The Brown tees were in good shape since most people do not play those, but the greens and whites definitely had some wear. We played the round at just under 4hrs and I went back to back birdies on 17 and 18 to shoot a 79 (made my day since this was the first time I played there) In closing, here is my view in general of the South Course. You can tell it is a city municipal course that gets alot of play. Yes the cost for non city residences is a little high $233 if you were walking. It is not a Pebble Beach quality course, and I never expected that when showing up that day. But to be able to play the same course that Tiger had his epic 2008 tournament and to be able to birdie the same hole and pin location that Tiger did on the 72nd hole to push it to a playoff, will always be a memory I cherish for the rest of my life. I'm playing here again on the 28th of November, because I want to see how I play now that I know the layout better and I can;t wait to go back.

Played here on Monday 6-12 am. When we arrived the bag man took our clubs and put them straight on the cart and told us they'd be waiting for us at the back of the clubhouse after we checked in. The ladies working the checkin at the pro shop were very pleasant and gave us a full breakdown for our round for the day. We went to the range which is equipped with trackman technology (did not take advantage of that since wee were teeing off soon and I did not want to download the app to use it) My buddy and I lucked out and got to go out as a 2some since the other 2 in our group had canceled their round. As for the course, the greens were less than desirable, very slow (about an 8.5). Some areas of the green were burnt up and even roped off (which was considered GIR) The fairways were firm and in good shape, as was the rough. The tee boxes were flat and in good shape. We were stuck behind a slow 4some that we had to wait behind for on approach shots, but could never catch up to them to pass (front 9 played at 2.5 hrs) They stopped for drinks at the turn and we decided to skip the turn and go straight to 10 . In total we ended up finishing up the round in just 4 hrs with a back 9 time of 1hr 45 min. After the round I took a shower in the club house and when I was done and went to tip the bag man, the 4some was just coming off of 18 (almost 40min after we finished) For it being summer conditions, I would say it was a great deal at $55 and can definitely see why they can charge what they do during the "season" I can't wait to go back and play again and hopefully play the Stadium course next time. On a side note, the stadium course is going to be going under renovation soon according to the starters, the greens are in horrible shape based on the photos he showed me and he said that hopefully it will be ready for the beginning og the season in Sept. Overall rating for the day would be an 8.5 (definitely higher if the greens were in better shape)

Played here back on 3-13-23. For those that play Rancho, you now trying to get on as walk on can be very difficult, especially later in the morning. I showed up to the course at 10:30am knowing that i might not get out until maybe the early afternoon and was told by the starter that I could get out in 20 min as a single. The course had restricted play to walking only due to the amount of water the area had received in the previous week. Thankfully I had my push cart in my car. The course was in good shape, the greens were slow, which I expected because they had not mowed them or rolled them due to the rain, but they were still solid pace. The fairways were also in good shape, but there were a large amount of fallen trees on the course, with one laying across the entire 9th fairway. With no one in a golf cart, the pace of play was 4hrs 15 min on what turned out to be a beautiful day at the course. I can't wait to go back and play here again.

Just played on Monday 11-14 and all I have to say about the course right now is WOW! The course was in perfect condition right now. The tee boxes were solid, the fairways were plush with the right amount of firmness, and the greens were rolling so smooth. The sand traps had pure white sand and looked like they belonged at Augusta. My only complaint was that we were playing behind a tournament that had no business playing that course. The round took 4.5hrs, but it could've been much quicker without them playing. Holes 5 had 2 groups waiting to tee off when we pulled up. I can't wait to go back soon.

If you actually enjoy putting, do not play this course!!!! The greens were in some of the worst conditions I've seen on a course in a very long time. I can understand that they had been punched 3 weeks ago, but the amount of sections of greens that were suffering from fungus and had crab grass was just unacceptable. They were slow and there were even some greens where I took relief from where my ball landed because of how bad the greens were. Also the pace of place was horrid today, it was just shy of 5hrs for the round. This course should be embarrassed for charging $51 for a mid day round for the condition that those greens were in. I will be posting photos.

I played this course back on 10-17-22. First of all I have to say that I have always wanted to play this course ever since it opened back in 2004, but the cost of tee times was always my hesitation point with greens fees ranging from $100-$180. I was lucky enough to get at hot deal on golf now for a midday round for $40. The course was in very good shape, outside of a few tee boxes being overseeded covered with mulch, but it was only 3 so not that bad. The fairways were firm and got a good amount of roll and were firm. The greens were in very good shape and rolling at a 11-12, but shots were holding on the greens a I was getting a good amount of spin. The rough was not too bad and playable, the sand traps were in good shape. Pace of play was 4hrs 30min but that had more to do with the group I was playing with, if not for them It would have been a much quicker round. I was very happy to finally knock this course off my list, and I cannot wait to go back, if I can find another deal online.

Played this course on 10-4-22 with OG greenskeeper.org member Cheeseburger. I have been coming to the solvang area since I was a small child and never actually realized how close to the course was to this beautiful town. The location of this course is amazing and the views of the surrounding areas are incredible.

The club house is very nice and has well stocked pro shop, the starter was very nice and we had a good conversation for a little bit while I was waiting for my playing partner to show.

The driving range was off of mats which did not have areas for using a tee if you wanted to hit driver at the range, but it is a nice small range. The carts are older and do not have GPS, but do have usb ports which allow you to charge your phone if you have a golf GPS app.

Arriving to the course there was a good amount of early morning dew and fog which cleared up after the first couple of holes. The fairways were in good shape and there were no patchy sections. The rough was consistent in length and not too difficult to hit out of. Tee boxes were in good shape and mostly level with a few exceptions, but on those you could still find a level area. The fairways were soft and the greens held most shots during the round.

There were a few minor things about the course that were of concern. The greens were inconsistent when it came to the surface. Some greens were very bumpy and did put a true line. Others looked like they were still recovering from the previous aerating, which was of some concern as I heard this course was due for another aerating at the end of the month.

The course had been recently mowed and there was a large amounts of wet trimmings along the course which had to be removed, and some areas of the course appear to be over watered and were very wet.

The sand traps need some work, some were like hitting out of a wet concrete slurry. Many of them had large amounts of pebbles, stones, and large rocks in them.

The pace of play was solid as we finished our round in 4hrs. We were able to get a great deal using GolfMoose.com that is found on the greenskeeper website. The round was $99 for 2 players with a cart and a free replay (wish I could have taken advantage of that but was not able too), All in all I was happy with this course and cannot wait to return. It was also nice to be able to go into town and enjoy lunch at one of the local restaurants and stop by my favorite bakery for some danish cookies and the famous onion cheese bread.

I played this course back on 9-26-22, and I unfortunately have to say that this once great course (when it was the SCGA) is in bad shape now. The greens were in bad shape slow speed (the course said the rating was a 10.3, but felt more like an 8) and multiple un repaired divot holes on each green, the fairways had a lot of crabgrass in areas as well did a lot of the green side fringes. The bunkers were just hard dirt, no sand at all and also had weeds and crabgrass growing in them as well. Pace of play was ok, playing in at about 4hrs 30 min. I loved playing this course back when it was the SCGA, but i think this is going to be the last time I will play this course for a very long time as there are better courses closer to home.
