Played this course for the 1st time on 9/4/12. It was a decent short course. Took 4 hrs to play. Tee boxes, fairways and rough were decent, bunkers were so-so. Greens were terribly slow. You literally had to hit your putts like a chip to get it close to the pin. The starter was kind of a jerk. May have just been me.

Got out Saturday @ 9:30 as a 3-some with a couple of friends. You can scroll down through
the reviews for this course to get a better idea of the layout, character, etc. Overall conditions were good. With a couple of exceptions, generally better than average tee boxes both in coverage and level. They finished the rebuilt boxes on the 7th and 8th holes and they are nice. Fairways were good with some thin spots and some soft spots from watering, particularly on the front nine. Greens were medium quick and I think they provide a lot of subtle challenges overall. Not bad in terms of ball marks, etc. Rough was mixed and could be anything from a few inches to hard pan, depending. Pace of play was good. We were actually slower than we should have been, so had no one immediately in front after a couple of holes and no pressure from behind. Group behind fell off the pace after about four holes and finished well behind. If you were behind them, your POP experience would have been much different than ours. The starter/pro shop is closed for renovations until sometime in September and they are operating out of the driving range shack. Not a grand golf experience, but a solid little muni that seems to keep improving—not expensive, easy to get on, polite staff and good conditions. Fun little course and we had a good time. I always like it as a change of pace.

Played today with 8:10 tee time. Have not played here in over 10 years, no particular reason been playing other courses in our rotation. Had a good breakfast, service was very good and food was good and inexpensive. Front desk was cordial and welcoming.

The course in general was in very decent condition, tee boxes were fairly even with few divots, fairways varied from very good to decent, some had thin to good grass. Lot of areas had been mowed too low IMO, some had brown areas and some had casual water. The greens were very nice, lush, and receptive with many ball marks (Fixed as many as we could). The bunkers had fluffy sand but it was damp from recent watering, but nice thick layer with no dirt that I could see.

Ahead of us were a 2some, followed by a 4some, then our 3some. Around the 4th hole the 3/4 became a 6 and were moving slow with no intention of allowing us through, at the 7th my buddy told them that they would have to play faster or let us play through, they informed us that they were playing 9 holes. So all in all turned out OK, just over 4 hr round. Price was higher than we expected, $40 with cart seems a bit steep for a muni. We might come back but not too soon.

Had an interesting day at Alhambra—played as a single on a reasonably busy Sunday afternoon, teeing off @ 1:30-ish. The threesome ahead of me was 3/4 down the fairway when they put me out with no one to immediately join me, and I was followed by a foursome when I got near the first green. The threesome kept enough pace that I never really reached a tee box in which they were waiting so, while it would be logical to join them in that case, it never happened. The foursome behind was slow (with a continuous line of golfers behind them) and were maybe four holes back at and out of sight by the end of the round. So I just went along in my little bubble, occasionally playing a second ball for practice. This shorter course is in generally pretty nice condition with the par three tee boxes the exception but still playable. As mentioned in the previous review, the upgraded tee boxes-in-progress on the par three holes 7 and 8 are going to be a big improvement in quality and size of teeing ground. No other renovations in progress. The greens run a nice medium fast, ran pretty true, and have enough contour and slope to them to provide some challenges. Fairways were on the firm side and in good shape. I was in more than the usual bunkers and I can attest to them being in good shape with good sand—the occasional un-raked footprint not withstanding. Due to overall length and the flat nature of the front nine, it tends to be thought of as an easy walking course. I would qualify that the back nine is much hillier than the front and while it averages out as a very do-able walk, you will be doing some hill work on the back nine, so factor accordingly if you are very particular about walking conditions. I wasn't tracking the time so I'd guess it was a little over a four-hour round. Whoever manages the place seems to do a good job on the customer service training as I have consistently found the attitude in the pro shop friendly and helpful.

I play here often and this is a challenging shorter course.

They are currently making improvements to the tee boxes on the 2 front par 3's - holes 7 and 8. Hole 7's tee box is almost complete, temporary tee box is 117 yards to middle of the green. They just started work on hole 8, it is playing very short, less than 90 yards.

No work being done on the back 9, back 9 is more challenging than the front. $20 twilight rate on the weekends. Easy course to walk, rating is 64. Friendly staff

Fun short course. Many short par 3's that are drivable or almost drivable. Course is in decent condition right now. Fairways are green, but can be a little thin. Rough can be 1 to 5 inches depending on the hole. Greens were pretty smooth, but slower than usually, although they are aerating in a week. Fun little layout. Easy to walk the front 9, but a few holes on the back can get tiresome with the hills. Some course knowledge is great here. Will be back. a 10 minute late start and a 5 hour round, but nothing I'm complaining about for this course.

Played Sat 3/24 with LAGG league. We sent out 4 groups at 10am and it took 5 hours to finish with a few minute wait on most tee boxes. Typical of LA muni golf on the weekend and probably better than some other courses in the area. The course was in decent shape with lush fairways and smooth but slow greens. The noise on this course can be a problem with many holes next to busy streets and train tracks. Sirens, cars, trains, people talking you get it all here.

Played Saturday, March 24, mid-morning tee times (four groups). A little more than 5 hours to play this fairly short muni. The course conditions are good for the amount of play this place sees. Greens were soft and definitely on the slow side, but rolled nicely with a lot of break if you were not directly above or below the holes. Fairways and rough were mostly lush; a few fairways had some divots, but mostly good mix on the carts to fill in. There were many areas that were marked with white paint as ground under repair, but they were not really in play unless you missed the greens towards the cart paths. The north side of the course (holes 10 through 12 seemed a little noisy at times with a busy street and rail road traffic. Lots of driveable par fours and an interesting layout that reminds me a little of Rancho Park in West Los Angeles. The back nine is kind of hilly compared to the front nine, but easily to walk. Lots of trees, putting a premium on hitting good shots, especially off the tee.
