Played ANGC Monday (7/16/18) at 6:30am as a threesome. Pace of play was excellent at 3 hrs. 20 minutes. Overall, the course is in very nice shape. The fairways are firm, but have excellent coverage. They are nice to play from. Tee boxes were fine, with the exception of hole 17. The tee box had been aerated. So it was covered in dirt/grass plugs everywhere. The greens were smooth and held shots pretty well. My only complaint is that they were on the slow side. But they held their line well. I was in two greenside bunkers. One had plenty of firm sand. It was good to hit from. The other had 1" of firm sand over hard dirt. Not good to hit from. I got the Monday/Tuesday senior rate of $65. Along with a gift card I had ($30), it only cost me $35 with cart. That is a great rate. I do think the rack rate of $85 is a bit high for this course. But that, of course, is only my opinion. ANGC is in good shape to play right now. I recommend it.

Played 4-12-18 on a GN deal for $23.49 including cart, teeing of at 3pm and finishing in 2 1/2 hours as a single. Tee boxes were in good shape, level, lush, and cut tight. Fairways have good coverage but it is thin and firm which gives good roll out but tight lies. Rough is a non factor here, cut about the same height as the fairways and in decent shape. Was in two greenside bunkers, they were both a little thin and had some descent sized rocks in them. Greens were in real nice shape, rolling medium/fast, semi-soft, and fairly smooth. Overall course is in good shape and worth playing if you can find a deal.

Played today in a great 3 H POP, with no wind and beautiful sunshine. In the past, the senior special ($65 - $55 online) was only available on Mondays. They have now added Tuesdays. If you are not a fan of dormant bermuda fairways, you might not want to play here (or wait until late April). Personally, they don't bother me and the fairways today (very wide as well), provided great roll and lies all round (not being green was not an issue). Tee boxes were perfect. There is rough, but very playable. One does need to avoid the desert/environmental areas, as well as the small arroyo's throughout the course (you cannot enter these areas at anytime). A few holes have water, as well as ravines in front of the green, to avoid/carry. Fairway bunkers were fine (in one no issue) but the bunkers around the greens (in 2) need more sand (to thin at present). The greens were fantastic. They held shots (high ones only), chipped/putted great and had good speed (10-11). I love the size of the greens here, as well as the challenging mounding and they putt very very true (if you are not putting well, it will be a long day). Customer service at all levels excellent. They have a good driving range, chipping area and putting green. Large clubhouse with restaurant, which I have been in in the past and enjoyed my meal on the large patio. Personally, I don't find this course that difficult to get to, as it is right off the 210 Freeway (which you cannot hear by the way). Looking for a different place to play, in the LA area? Check it out, at least once.

We played here on Monday 2/10/18 at 8am finishing in just over 4 hours. I notice that this course hadn't been rated in a while so thought it was time to go back. My group always enjoys our rounds here. We love the layout, conditions, customer service, views, and location of Angeles National. Recent reviews were not too favorable but we thought the course was in great shape overall. The greens, bunkers, and tee boxes were all excellent! If you are not a fan of tight lies then you won't like the fairways and rough. They are very tight and do run out however we found them soft enough underneath to take a divot and hit off of. Chipping around the greens is a real challenge with these lies especially if you miss it above the hole.
A couple things to point out to everyone about ANGC for GK'ers.......the recent fires got really close to the course and now more then ever you can tell you are in a desert. The nearby mountains look nice but the areas surrounding the course are rather bare now. The rates here are a little steep at $65 for a senior but if you book online they are charging $55 with a booking fee so about $57 pp which is much better. If you call them and make a tee time they charge you the higher rate ($65) so beware....we will always return here.

Aside from tees and greens, the course is dormant, dry and rock-hard. Rough is non-existent and that's problematic on a design like this, especially with the run-out you get on these billiard table-like fairways.

Those fairways are thin as a rake and hard - it's like hitting off plywood. Remember how the barest, oldest mat at the driving range of your local muni feels like to hit off? These are worse.

Greens are the best part, but they have loads of grain in them making them very difficult to judge (not inconsistent pace-wise, but the nap of them will affect the ball severely at times). Also, moron golfer alert - the nastiest, deep gashed ball marks were pretty prevalent and unrepaired.

Sand full but heavy around the greens and thinner with a fair amount of chunky pebbles in the fairway ones.

Recent fires have burnt out most of the native areas while appearing to have leap-frogged each fairway. So it adds an eerie, other-worldly feel to the framing of the course. And, as you're not supposed to enter these areas, now if you do you'll end up with charcoal shins for your trouble and that marks you pretty clearly as a guilty trespasser. Revealed through the fires, you can now see tons of charred golf balls in them, in a sign of how many shots end up in the junk here. (Don't go trying to retrieve them - see 'shins' above, and most of them are melted anyway)

Played on an ultra special of 46 bucks and wouldn't want to pay a penny more.

Tee boxes over seeded but very playable. 5 hrs for a Friday at 12:26. I really like this place because it doesn't seem like a typical Los Track. Conditions are are above average tee to green.

Conditions overall were very good.

Good grass driving range with large chipping area adjacent, which was representative of what was on course.

Friendly check-in and staff.

Nice touch having a large cooler filled with ice on first tee, but when I discovered on board cooler was empty, just kind of felt like I was being asked to pick up a piece of the staff's work, albeit a very small piece.

Anyway, on to conditions:

Tee Boxes were good, a few a had large punches throughout, but did not affect play. Level and well covered.

Fairways are mostly dormant Bermuda, so very tight, thin, fast and firm. If you can pick the ball with irons, you'll be fine. As a bit of a digger, these were tough fairways for me.

Bunkers has plenty of sand, but as I have noticed on other courses in the area, fairway bunkers have too much sand. I found a couple and was impossible to advance very far with heavy brown sand. Greenside were very good.

Bentgrass Greens were very well covered, and again, quite firm and fast. My entire group has difficulty reading, less break on most putts that what appeared. Holding shots quite well.
Consistent, medium fast. Some tiered greens, most were quite large.

Layout is fairly straightforward and mostly flat, with only slight elevation changes. A handful of tee shots require study of the on-board GPS as water, not visible from tee came into play. Seemed with routing, you'd be into wind and then had wind at back, every other hole. Prevailing wind made the those into, very tough, but shortened a couple of par 5's

No beverage cart on course, but otherwise, good service.

Played Angles National today. Very light day early so the starter got us out almost 45 minutes early which was great because it was a 36 hole day being capped off at Brentwood C.C.
Angles was in the best shape that I have ever seen. Fairways were green and and provided great lies. It has been recently aerated but no logs in the fairways and it posed no problems. Rough was generally 2-3 inches and played at a fair clip. The trick here is keeping it in the fairways. Bunkers, in the fairways they were good maybe 2-3 inches of sand. Green side bunkers were a fair but challenging test. Good sand coverage 3-4 inches and several present steep and high faces. Greens were well maintained and showed little wear or unattended repair issues ball marks. They did however roll slower than I like maybe medium to slow.
The course is a bit of a drive from the O.C. but I would certainly recommend playing here and I will be back.

Played here again for $65 pp in perfect weather. I still always love playing here but have trouble paying rack rates very often. I really love everything about this course. I still think they need to get creative on offering golf deals here and there bottom line just might improve! Conditions are better than average as usual and we always enjoy getting back to play there.
