Played today in the early afternoon using golf now for $70. I'll start with the course conditions first and then the customer service. Hopefully I will calm down when I am ready to write about the customer service.

For the most part the course is in good to above good condition. The tee boxes were level and easy to find a spot to put a tee in the ground. Most were nice and green with a few brown spots. Fairways were mowed tight and gave lots of roll. There was plenty of brown spots but nothing that affected your next shot. The sand was good with a little of room underneath to get a good hit on the ball. The greens were the best part. Most rolled really well at a good fast pace. There are a few ball marks here and there but nothing that affected my line or put. All in all a solid course that I enjoyed to play.

Now on to the customer service. I arrived about 30 mins before my tee time and checked in. That was about the best part of my experience. I asked the starter if they were going to announce my tee time since I thought I was playing with another 2 some based on my golf now booking. Went to the range hit some balls and approached the first tee about 7 mins before my tee time. Never heard a word and no one else around. Not a problem, went out as a single behind a two some. Played a few holes and then passed the two some. It was nice and warm today around 90+ on the course. Couldn't find water anywhere. Saw the cart person twice but they drove right by me never stopping to ask if I wanted something! Then saw a " player assistant" he at least gave me a head nod but wouldn't talk to me! By 16 I was ready for something to drink, at least water but no one around! For $70 this is ridiculous.

I have played many other courses who at least have water in the cart or water on the course for that price. When I left I truly felt ashamed that I spent that much money on this course. From some reviews I read and heard I thought this course was on the upper end for the area? Well it certainly didn't act like it. I did enjoy the layout and played pretty well but there is no way I will be back at that rate!

Played the Blues (6597/72.0/136) with Kviser. I was using their B-Day promotion, Kevin was paying full price, so we split it, which turned out to be $50 each. POP was a little under 2H for almost 9 holes. The course was closed after a downpour. We played 2 holes in dry weather, then were rained on for 6+ holes before we got a message on the GPS that the course was closed due to flooding. Before I go into course conditions, the way the Pro Shop attempted to handle the closure was unacceptable. We paid $100 combined to play, they announced the course was closed after our drives on #9, yet they only wanted to offer a $30 rain check? To make matters worse, he only wanted to offer 1 rain check for $30, not split it between the 2 of us. He explained that there was no rain check for a reduced rate B-Day round. He finally offered one $40 rain check to Kevin, and Kevin was nice enough to pay me a few bucks to make up most of the difference. They had no problem charging both our credit cards $50 each, yet they cannot make out 2 rain checks for 1/2 each the amount due? Plus, you have to haggle with them to get them to honor 1/2 the fee paid by the full paying customer when THEY determine the course is closed and you got in less than 1/2 a round? Needless to say, the customer service was as poor as the weather. The tees were fairly lush, thick poa annua with most divots properly maintained. The fairways were firm even with the rain and cut close. more thin than lush. The rough is also mowed down close in most spots. You usually get good lies in the rough here. It is penal because it won't stop errant shots before they reach a red hazard. The sand traps were very nicely maintained with good quality sand. The big, undulating greens putt smooth and medium fast. They hold well struck irons, but you are not backing anything up substantially on these greens unless you are on a slope because of their firmness. Big, beautiful clubhouse. Enjoy this layout, many fun holes. Only Nicklaus course in L.A. County, the layout, conditions and difficulty are all usually well above average. However, recommended only if you can get a deal, $80 to play on a weekday @ 4 pm is way too much.

Out running errands and received a call to potentially fill out a 4some when a members buddy canceled. Went from not planning on playing to on the 1st tee in 38 minutes! Played the Blues (6597/72.0/136). POP was good, 4H, 10M. The weather was in the high 60's, overcast, fairly calm and it was just beginning to sprinkle as I was leaving. I appreciate this layout more with each visit. After having not played here in years, lowered or tied my personal best here 3 straight rounds. IMO, the layout, conditions and difficulty are all well above average. The tees were thick poa annua with most divots properly maintained. Fairly lush, nice to play off of. The fairways produce large bounces and lots of roll. Tough to call them lush even though they have excellent coverage, they play much better than they look. I find them really good to hit irons and fairway metals off of, just enough of a cushion but still mowed close and firm. They are also more generous in size than many appear from the tee. Several holes look tighter than they actually are. However, there is still plenty of native area red hazards lurking just off every hole, usually on both sides to keep you in line. The rough is also mowed down close in most spots. You usually get good lies in the rough here. Not a huge amount of traditional "rough" on this layout, you miss the fairways by much and you are in the native area, + 1 to your scorecard. The sand traps were nicely maintained with good quality sand. While they are not overly severe faces, I have had 2 shots I could not advance directly toward the hole in 3 rounds here because I either was too close to the lip or had stance issues. Sand quality higher in green side traps than fairway traps. The greens are big, firm and putt medium fast, pretty smooth. I average over 3 more putts per round on this course than my average for all courses. Subtle crests and breaks. The amount of times I don't even get the direction of the break correct, much less how much break there is happened at least once every round here this week. The customer service was excellent from everyone encountered. Drink cart out making the rounds. Recommended = Definitely yes.

I had a 1:34 time out here today but arrived about an hour early and they sent me straight to the tee to join a twosome. Another single eventually joined us during the front nine, and overall we had minimal waits all day, finishing in exactly 4:30. Surprisingly quick for a Friday afternoon!

Conditions are pretty good. The greens look like they've been micro punched at some point somewhat recently, but it doesn't affect putts at all. They are fast, mostly smooth and held full shots well, although I wouldn't call them soft. Fairways are dry, firm and give lots of roll. They are light green and very tight with good coverage. Rough was a little clumpy here and there but never too deep. The sand quality in the bunkers was good, but I knocked them down a few rating points because they nearly all had rocks in them. Tee boxes were very good, nice and firm, cut short with very consistent coverage.

This was my first time playing the course and I wasn't overly impressed. I definitely am glad I played with Forelinx rather than paying rack rate. First of all, it was very hazy most of the afternoon, causing the course to struggle to come to life visually. = The light green fairways and numerous ESA areas all just looked sort of blah. Those weather conditions also contributed to me feeling a sense of "sameness" throughout much of the design. It felt more like a Ted Robinson course to me than a Nicklaus Design group course. To the designers' credit, they did a good job of making the borders of holes deceiving in that they often look like they are tighter and more punitive than reality. The routing is also kind of funky and possibly unsafe, as several places find you driving your cart very close or directly into to the line of play of the group in front of you. Back to the positive side, one design element I really liked was the mounding in front of the 10th green, leading to a green that seems to actually run away from the approach shot. The par-5 13th also had interesting mounding in the green surrounds, creating a green that felt like it was positioned lower than all other parts of the hole. The whole course feels very exposed, and the wind kicked up around our 7th hole and persisted pretty much the remainder of the round. Service-wise, I definitely appreciated them getting me out early, and there were many marshalls out and about. The carts have nice GPS to the pin, although they are set to vacillate between 10 mph and 12 mph max speed, which is sort of annoying because it tended to switch back and forth quite often. All in all, I liked the course but went into the round hoping and expecting to like it much more than I did. I'd like to revisit on a clear, sunny day when those nearby mountains would look much more appealing.
