Walked on Friday morning to LMGC and to my surprise was sent out right away. Check in was very smooth. The young man and young lady behind the counter are always a pleasure to deal with. Not an easy task with the players at this course.
The course is very green with all the rain we have had. Tee boxes were level and lush. Fairways were on the thin side, hit a drive on 16 and had an iron into the green. To the courses credit they did have a couple holes CPO. Rough was thick but could easily get out of. Traps had good sand and well groomed. Greens were lush and medium speed. As has been mentioned before it seems the norm that divots do not need to be fixed. Fixed as many as l could not the courses fault. POP was right at four hours which is not bad for LM. Bring your sense of humor and remind yourself you are not working.

Played the course back on Oct. 9th, a Wednesday. The good. Pace of play. Didn't think we'd finish after teeing off at 2pm but we did. Fairways weren't too bare but barely. The bad. Greens were never great here. They are inconsistent, not smooth. Add the bumpiness and you're lucky if you make a putt. The bunkers were consistently NOT RAKED. The players here have NO SENSE OF GOLF ETIQUETTE. There were also NO carts available. Apparently no mechanic to fix the carts. It sounds like this course is just getting cheap. They don't want to spend the money to keep it nice. This course is so busy, I don't know why they don't just raise the price a bit and get more money to fix the carts, smooth the greens, get rid of bare spots, and have adequate sand in the bunkers. The range balls are also terrible. You know when you see white and yellow balls that they're too cheap to buy decent ones. Stay away from this course if you're a semi-serious golfer.

I always have a chuckle whenever I play here. Our foursome had a 6:37am tee time, but when I arrived at 5:40am, groups were already teeing off. I mentioned to the guy in the pro shop how funny it is to see everyone teeing off in the dark, and he replied that "yeah they start teeing off at 6am" ( Are you not aware of what's going on?) Here is the crazy part; despite an unknown number of groups going out in the pitch black, we actually were called to the tee and teed off 12 minutes prior to our tee time ! (Of course it was still totally dark ) However even with all the people, we finished in less than four hours - not too bad considering. Sadly the course is in the worse condition I have seen it. Greens were good, above average, rolled well but a bit slower than normal. Lots of bare areas in the fairways. Rough was inconsistent, as were the tee boxes. Bunkers were for the most part pretty good. Past experience here has never found a general "scruffiness" to the course. In fairness, it appears they are working on these areas, so let's hope this is a temporary condition ?

Decided to give La Mirada a try again, but when I arrived, even though super early long before daylight, it was packed ! Rather than take a chance on some other course, made the choice to just play the back nine. Played two balls so it was kind of like playing 18 (NOT)

Course is in pretty good condition, fairways had lots of grass, bunkers had plenty of sand, greens rolled well, but were too slow for my taste.

I like this course even though it is a bit "quirky", enjoy the elevation changes. Just wish I could have played the entire 18.

It’s been quite awhile since I’ve posted or contributed to the site but I had to write a quick review on my round at la mirada. First off, since my last review of this place... I said it before and I’ll say it again. A lot has changed has changed here. The range isn’t just a hill with flags to hit to. They have actually made greens, bunkers and target areas (artificially, of course) to make pounding range balls a little bit more interesting. Chipping area does needs work but at least they have one. And right off the first tee, they added a very well placed bunker, in the middle of the fairway hill. Little things like this made you actually think about where you can miss, club selection and rollout. Before, I remember... you just pound the ball as far as you can and you should still be good. It was refreshing to see some real thought was placed into the changes. When I hit into a few bunkers, they were filled with real sand... which caught me by surprise because it’s been hard pan for as long as I could remember. And the greens when putting were actually decent, borderline good even. Some holes actually played fast and had break. Again... my memories here when putting was, it’s either straight or a cup left or right ... and not to mention “slow” so you better pound your putt. And to let everyone know, my tee time was 8:30am on a Saturday and we teed off at 8:30am. Saturday AM tee time here usual spells out “6 hour” round... but not today... a fivesome, yes 5 players. 2 carts and 1 walker finished our round at 12:30. Crazy fast, and if you ask anyone who has played here before, just crazy talk. Again, maybe I was lucky. Maybe a tourney was played here during the week making the conditions very playable... maybe it was just a one time deal where all the groups playing in front of us were serious golfers with great pace. But from what I witnessed... would not mind playing or practicing here again. It was ... dare I say it... an enjoyable round. There... I said it. Lol. Well I hope this helps out a few of you to give it a try and put La Mirada back in your rotation...

Fun Saturday round at La Mirada today with Kassper7 and another friend. We were paired with a fun twosome and moved pretty well throughout the day despite being a fivesome, and also around a fifteen minute delay before teeing off.

My most recent memories of La Mirada were of dried out fairways on the high ground, and aquatic wastelands in the low-lying areas like holes 6 and 16. This place drains terribly and often the conditions suffer because of it. But today was definitely a much better experience.

If current conditions are not the best I've ever played here, then they're very close to it. Fairways have plenty of lush areas with the occasional thin spot to be found somewhere on just about every hole. Rough is not penal, but the tee boxes are just in okay shape overall. Bunkers fluctuated from hole to hole, but some were quite thin and required a chip out over a sand shot. And yes, the greens were in good shape. Not great, but quite good compared to trips past. Certainly not fast, but pretty well maintained if not just a bit lumpy and requiring a bit of a press.

Always enjoy the up and down layout at La Mirada and find it quite fun and relatively challenging. When the conditions are good and the round doesn't take you six hours (which it did not today), this is a super fun place to play. Glad to have come back.

Played with my monthly group at La Mirada on Saturday, 6/1/19 at 9am on a cool, cloudy day without much wind. Range on mats and main putting green was closed. One shop guy working hard to keep up but a great attitude. Not that busy at that time but clubhouse area was packed as we finished 5+ hours later. We debated during the round about the translation into “golf English” of “La Mirada”. The prevalence of no grass in many playing areas of the course led us to think it could mean “the bare dirt”. Based on our experience today, we all agreed that it could mean “the bad lie”. All holes had scattered or large bare areas where the ball could rest in a multitude of flat/ridged/muddy/cratered forms, but bad lies could be had on “grass” or in the non-fairway areas, as well. My experience in the front bunker on #2, where my ball came to rest in a deep trench that looked like it had formed from a dozen golfers blasting out and not raking behind them, led me to think that the translation could be “the ditch”. Greens were the "best" part of the course, fairly firm and not showing many ballmarks, but bumpy and rolling at medium+ speed. Coming here over the years (once per year or less) it seems to me that the size of many greens continues to shrink as American Golf continues to tighten its budgets. Fairways where we found grass were thin and tight, rolling out OK but giving uncertain lies. Rough ranged from bare/thin to more lush in lower areas of the course. Most bunkers had adequate sand (but see above!) but it was often very wet and/or packed. We played the Blue tees and they were OK, but frequently pushed well forward of the Blue plates, especially on the par-3s. OK for a slow casual round.

Played LM on Friday morning. Walked on at 8am with no issues. Check in was smooth and first tee was well organized. The course is getting a little rough around the edges. Tee boxes had good coverage, fairways were hard and fast if you had any side spin on the ball you were in the rough. The rough was a mixed bag. Traps were very inconsistent with hard pack sand, wet sand and good sand coverage. Greens were healthy with good coverage, they were bumpy and had quite a few unfixed divots.
POP was 4.5 hours, there was a marshall on the course moving people along. Pack your patience and you will have a good day.
