Went out with my buddy Bob, had a 9:25AM tee time. Paid $29.95 on Golfzing. Course was really busy, we checked in at 8:30, was given our golf cart key. Started the morning off with a back 9 breakfast burrito, very good, then some chipping and putting in the practice area. Wish I had taken advantage of the practice bunker. We tee'd off about 10 minutes early behind a 5 some of ladies, 3 in carts, two walking. Thought this was going to be an issue, but it wasn't, they were older, but they were consistently good, and quick. (at least until the 16th). They had a slow threesome in front of them, but not too bad. The starter let Bob and I out as a twosome chased by a foursome. The weather was perfect, most of the round a light breeze, and the course well under renovation, was largely in very good conditions. The greens were punched late March and are still healing, and sandy, but very clean with good rolls. The collars around the greens and the second cut were well done. The bunkers both fairway and greenside looked freshly filled, unfortunately I can say from experience they were in very good condition. they had been machine raked and were very nice. Fairways were in pretty good condition across the board, and rough was spotty, but mostly good, fluffy, bunkers as noted were very well maintained and with one exception raked. The tee boxes were another story. They were either very good or pretty bad. At least 3 were just temporary, several were unleveled. 18 took this to the level of being a hillside lie. If you are one of those players who doesn't use a tee on par 3's you were doomed. Had a wonderful time, enjoyed the company and the golf. Pace of play was excellent, the service was good. There was a marshal between 3 and 4 to make sure people were moving along. There was a fair amount of heavy equipment crossing the course in various places, but it's didn't seem to be a bother. Will definitely play the course again, sooner rather than later. The course is under renovation. New fairway bunkers are going in on a couple of fairways, and the 18th hole which is a temporary hole right now is having new bunkers, tee boxes, and trees installed. There are new trees going in all over the course, most notably on 16 and 18.

Sorry for the delay in posting this review - life got in the way.
Played on 3/15 - 7:44 tee time, got out as scheduled. We ended up behind a 5some (2 carts, 1 walker). They ended up 1 to 1 1/2 holes behind by the 4th hole. We jumped ahead of them and finished in just over 4hrs. They finished at least 1/2 hr after us.

The course - knew that aeration was happening but we just wanted a quick 18 for fun n beers! all greens were punched and heavily sanded. at least 7 had temp greens, no distance given on how far from the original green we were hitting into. Made for some bad decisions on club selection. All the Red tees are being replaced so there were large dirt patches out there. The fairways were spotty, some ok, most had thin or no grass in some areas.

They are making a large investment in the facility but I would stay away for at least 2 months or more. We were charged the usual senior rate but should have been discounted rate. The beer was Cold - highlight of the day! :)

Met an old golf buddy from Tustin halfway so we decided on a first trip to La Mirada. Wasn't expecting much but a flat, typical muni but was so very surprised at how much I enjoyed the course.

Throw 'flat' out the window - from the first hole you can tell that you will be playing plenty of balls from above and below your feet. The elevations are sneaky but really entertaining. You play the rebounds a decent bit here so I was glad we were paired with a local to show us the best lines. Really enjoyed the variety of holes here and the differences required for club selection.

Fairways and greens in above average shape. Greens themselves are generally very small but don't offer too much in terms of undulations. So-so shot reception. Not too many bad lies at all during the day for me, except on the quirky hole 16 which is really the only truly silly hole on the course.

Rough varies from hole to hole - again, local knowledge helps. Some sides are cut short apparently and will funnel balls down into the flats, while others remain thick to provide the challenge for this fairly short 18 in terms of distance.

The bad? The bunkers are very hardpan and in dire need of some TLC. Also, the tee boxes are a bit chewed up and a few too many uneven for the amount of room they have to work with. Could be better.

Paid $51 for 18 w/cart which is just about right for this place in its current good condition. Found the process all very smooth and place has a nice dining area with great breakfast burritos. Range is adequate, too. Oh yeah, played the back tees and, while we had such a fun day out, barely noticed POP was rather slow at a little over 5 hours as the foursome in front of us were slow walkers. I would NOT want to walk this course!

Early morning tee time on Friday. Mass confusion at check in, the starter was by himself and very busy answering the phone and checking people in. Tee box was empty for at least 15 minutes when we were sent out and told that we were second up. Ended up waiting for the group ahead of us to get to the tee, ended up going out 25 minutes late for a 7am tee time. Starter sent out two more players to join us, which made us a five, and the round was very slow. By the second hole the marshall said we were behind and to pick up the pace. FRUSTRATING!
Course is in pretty good shape for winter. Fairways, rough and greens had good coverage. Bunkers were little on the thin side. Greens were firm and bumpy, tee boxes were uneven and lot of divot damage. POP was a little over 5 hours and the place was packed when we left.

Played Saturday morning, 10/17/15, with my monthly club. Only 10 days out of aeration and greens are soft, hairy, and bumpy. Easy to be aggressive with putts and chips. Tees were ok, although par 3s very torn up. Fairways are kikuyu and were firm and thin, although the kikuyu helps the ball sit up. Rough generally cut down and easy to play from, but in places is lush or clumpy. Sand wet and hard packed everywhere. Many areas around greens and between holes were very wet and rutted from carts/equipment. No cart girl or divot mix refills. Course crowded, AGC pumps out the fivesomes, and POP was slow, with big backups on #8 (#1 hcp) and #16 (wacky 120-degree dogleg par 5).

I have not played here in over three years, not because I don't like the course, but rather because of the brutally slow play typical to this course. I was able to secure an early time so we were able to finish in 4hours, 8 min, Not too bad, not great, but OK.

There were a number of greens which have large bare areas. Maybe the upcoming punching will address this issue. The course was in decent shape, some thin areas in the fairways and more so in the rough. About what you might expect, but if memory serves me, I don't recall so many areas on concern.

Enjoy playing here if only to feed my ego, so I can post a lower number and make a few birdies. (However today, not a birdie to be found!) Pace was OK, weather was pleasant, and it just felt like a stroll in the park.

Found the course to be in good shape given the water restrictions in force. Tee boxes clean and tee receptive. Fairways (though some brown spots evident) provided good lies and roll out all morning. No bunker issues and heard none from anyone else. Rough was not a factor though it is evident the farther off the fairway one gets. Greens held shots, chipped well and putted well all morning (no inconsistencies). Customer service was excellent at all levels. I would not hesitate to go back but would be selective in my tee time.

Play Saturday weekends at least 2 times a month at La Mirada, the course condition is pretty much good standard public course, but our experienced with getting an on time t time (at least on Saturdays) has been going down hill. T times starts used to be pretty much on time or delayed by a few minutes, but in the last few months, delays of at least 30 minutes seems be normal for this course, and every time we mentioned this to the starter, the response was that it depends on how the people at the pro-shop set it up. Well I can say that ever since they change the people at the pro shop that was when t times delays started, which kind of tells me something is not right here.

This is the second time in 2 weeks that I have payed here. I was playing in a 2 day event and the pins were placed in tight and difficult locations. The greens were fast as well. The course is a control course with some very interesting shots. To play well here you should be able to bend the all both ways or be very confident in your stock shot. The fairways are well covered and have lots of slopes and side hill lies. The greens are small and angled.
The taps were firm but good with occasional thin spots. They do have my pet peeve which is sand raked up the sides. This results in soft sides and firm or had bottoms. I wish more greens keeps would pay attention and fix this.

The greens need to be viticulture and thinned out so that they can be rolled and firmed up. Today they were very fast with pins tucked in slopes and tight locations. With the softness of the greens this resulted in bumpy greens. I had several putts which I needed to feather down the hill to the hole but I couldn't keep on line due to the bumps.

While I hate the pace of play most days and the lack of ability to get out on time, this is really a good course and a fun test of shotmaking and control.
