Played Los Amigos with the dads from my kids school. Los Amigos is a pretty user friendly course with a couple of holes that make you go hmmm.

Get to the range and it reminded me of Tin Cups range minus Rene Russo and add two old white guys. Balls are crappy, matts are worse and the targets are limited.

Pro shop guy was nice enough he's been there a long time so I was in and out.
We head to the first tee and you can see the chipping area is completely overgrown.
The putting green was patchy and burnt. Yikes, here we go!!!!

LA County sucks!! Its just a big cash grab. Nothing reinvested in the course. The fairways were moderately better than Santa Anita and the rough was just unkept weeds. Tee boxes were un level ( they were replanting 3) and the greens were just wrecked. No one fixes pitch marks, the poa was patchy and the speeds were inconsistent.

I'm a humble muni track player so I'm grateful to play anywhere but that being said whoever is running this place could do a better job. Oh, and the water argument is weak because there are plenty of courses in the area that are making it through this drought.

City and county golf courses have been packed and made a lot of money to take better care of these courses. Play this place if you want to play an upgrade from Victoria but this place sucks.

I look at the massive picture of the Board of Supervisors, they're all so proud, when was the last time any of these people were at the course? You can tell none of them play anyways but you have to see there picture in all the local pro shops.

Quick review on Saturday's round at Los Amigos ... we got on very early so it was nice to get around the course in under four hours. We had a 6:38 tee time with three walking and one cart. Course conditions are 'fine.' Greens had some damage but were mostly in good shape and rolling nicely, but many of the tee boxes (we played the blue tees) were beat up good. Plenty of good lies in the fairways but a few thin areas and dirt/mulch areas off to the sides of the green complexes. It was early so the bunkers were a bit on the wet side so can't really speak to how well they played after the sun came out later. Still good in a pinch ...

Memories of playing here with my grandfather in the early 80s brings me back every year or two. Not the longest of courses at 6212 from the blues but it has its challenges. Greens have a fair amount of undulation. The front nine is fairly open with some mild doglegs. The back nine has some hard doglegs and a water crossing that will likely keep the driver in the bag for some people. There is enough variety and strategy in the design to keep it interesting. Teed off a little short of 7am finishing in 3:50. The greens rolled mostly smooth with medium speed and held shots. The fairways have mostly good coverage with a mix of grasses but had decent lies. The rough had decent coverage with some thin/bare spots. Along the fairways the rough was thicker in some areas than others but nothing very penal. Around the greens the rough was good. The bunkers were groomed and playable but wet and compacted. The tee boxes are a bit chewed up with spotty coverage on some. Overall the conditions played fair to good. About what I would expect from an LA County Muni. The staff was friendly.

Played this course for the first time today. Went into it under the impression that it would be in half-decent shape, i.e., your average muni course. Expectations matched reality. It wasn't bad, nor was it great. In a word, it was average. Don't let that dissuade you from playing here, though, because there really isn't anything "wrong" with it, per se. Everything except maybe the bunkers could've been a little better, but nothing was horrible, or even bad, except for maybe the tee boxes (divots/bare spots and a tad of unevenness on some). The carts had no sand, which doesn't help the divots, and there was no beverage cart. But the layout is enjoyable enough, most holes are right in front of you on the front nine, with more doglegs on the back. Not overly long, nor overly difficult. In many ways, it's the epitome of your average county-run municipal course. Nothing to write home about, but nothing to avoid, either.

1st off on a beautiful golf morning. Was hoping Weber would show up (LOL) but I knew in advance he would not. Had the course to myself for 3 hours walking. Have not played here in almost 2 years so it was nice to get back. Check in was great from Gary B. Glad he is still there. I also heard that Eddie from Montebello is now there as well. So I now know customer service will always be just fine at Los Amigos. Found the course in good condition even with the dampness from overnight watering. Heavy fairways to start but good lies. Back 9 the fairways had good lies and good roll. Strange that I found no bunkers but they looked playable and had rakes and looked cleaned and ready for business. No issue with any rough to speak of. Greens were clean/mowed and chipped/putted just fine all round. I really like the tree cleaning they have done on many holes. Makes a big difference. $21 Sr walking (with LA CO card). $16.50 for a cart + 5 for single rider. Also noticed that Sr rates are different on Fridays vs weekdays (check website or with pro shop). Nice driving range. Good putting green. Did not have any food, but it use to be good and hope that it still is. A no frill public course if you find the right tee time to avoid POP issues. You can call at 9 AM for 9 day advanced reservations. Recommended. But it seemed very quite today. Perhaps many have gone back to work? Or inflation is starting to nibble away $$ for recreation vs food, gas and necessities?

Saturday round with three buddies this past Saturday at Los Amigos with a shortage of other late options to play. Three of us walked and one rode with a 12:56pm tee time. No cart service all day long is always disappointing, but the starter was perfectly lovely and got us out on time and in efficient manner.

Current course conditions are better than they've been the last few visits with no major complaints about anything except maybe the tee boxes needing a bit more coverage, or perhaps to be moved around more often. The rest of the course is in decent, almost good shape, but falling just short in terms of consistency and lushness.

Greens were actually rolling pretty nicely but chock full of ball marks on varying greens. The fairways have a little better coverage than months past and you'll usually find a good lie in the fairway, but it's not going to be a surprise to find a thin or dirt patch here or there. Bunkers were actually in good shape with nice sand, and the rough was patchwork and inconsistent but nothing too highlight in a bad light.

POP didn't seem as slow as it was so I was surprised when we finished with a five-hour time. You must always beware here the ball stealers when your tee shots are offline into one of the adjacent fairways, especially on the front nine.

All in all it was a pretty good day out at The Friends and if your expectations are in check you will have a good time here.

Looking for somewhere inexpensive and not too far from home. Back to Los Amigos. Not a whole lot different from my last time here, except they did punch the greens, which did not roll all that badly. Recent rains helped "green" everything. No real issues with residual water, Less busy than last time I played, which was a pleasant surprise. Several of the tee boxes still being worked on.

If you get out early, this course can be a fun track to get around. Not too tough, but interesting enough to keep your interest. If you're a senior the price is right !

Had to be in Downey for the weekend. Booked tee time for 12:06 on Sunday 3/27. Teed off at 12:35. Finished 16 holes at 5:30 and called it a day.

I would summarize this course as chaos and anarchy. Seven minute tee times and fivesomes are maybe good for County of LA revenue but not good if you like to play golf unless you like to take 20 minutes or so to play a hole.

Used to be nice to play there since I only stay five minutes away. I think that five or more years ago it was OK but would not play again on a weekend unless I had one of the first tee times out which are really hard to book.

Glad I live in the Coachella Valley now.

First out on a cool, damp morning. Busy, but was able to get out in front of the crowds. While I did not expect great conditions, I was very disappointed in the fairways. If you "played the ball down", it would almost be impossible to get a decent lie because of all the clumps, so your ball would end up between the clumps and make it very difficult to get the club face on the ball. I did not have any mowed greens because I was ahead of the cutter, so the greens were slow and bumpy. Tee boxes were a mixes bag, some good, some not so good. They had the back tees closed on holes #3 and #16. I found a bunch of bunkers today, which as it turned out was fine, because every bunker was well maintained with adequate sand.

Despite the conditions, enjoyed the quick round. I find this course somewhat charming. An interesting layout with some fun holes. For a shorter course, it keeps my interest level up. The greens would normally be more of a challenge, but because none were cut, they played so much easier.
