Played on Tues 7/7 and not much to add to the last few reviews except that the greens have dried out with the exception of #11. It was still very soggy and you could hear your footsteps as you walked across it.
There seem to be a few mure dry spots in some fairways but nothing unexpected during this hot weather.
I joined two other guys and we played in 3 1/2 hours with no one pushing us.
This track is growing on me the more I play here and i just booked a round for next Tues. With the county senior card its only $28.75 with a cart on weekdays.

Despite the scruffiness, I'm a fan of this course. Yes, the greens have weird wet sections and soft spots on them. Yes, the rough is a bit high in places and the tee boxes a bit chewed up. I would love a round of tree trimming to happen here, there are some tight chutes to hit through.

Despite these problems, the fairways are in great shape and easy to hit off of, the layout is a great mix of holes that reward shot shaping and the ability to hit off of non-flat lies, the lush rough is kinda what you need on course on a hillside and it's the kind of grass that lends itself to more predictable chips. The price can't be beat, and you almost always get to see deer wandering around the course.

I would play here regularly if it was 30 minutes or less away from my house.

Teed it up this morning with Kassper7. It’s been a couple of years since I last played here. Although they don’t offer a senior rate on weekends, it’s still very reasonable at $38.50. I walked the front nine but took it easier on the back with a cart.

The conditions were disappointing. Visually, it was very nice- green and lush. The bad part was that there was some serious over-watering happening. The fairways were good other than several deep muddy areas, but the greens were downright spongy. There were many spots of water pooled under the grass creating big bubbles that moved to the side when stepped on. I got the feeling they would erupt if punctured with a repair tool. The tee boxes were unlevel and the bunkers thin on sand, but considering how poorly I was playing, it really didn’t matter.

The good part was this is a challenging and really fun course. When it dries out a bit, I’d like to give it another go.

Late review - played Friday early. Staff here is always wonderful ! Never have an issue getting out. Easy check in.

I always enjoy playing Marshall Canyon, just a fun track to walk. While certainly not the most difficult or longest course, it affords such a pleasant park like setting, with nice views, deer, and enough of a challenge to keep your interest. I suspect that without local knowledge, these greens could really present a problem, but once you have played here enough times and understand where not to miss, they are quite manageable.

Senior rates just make this course all the more of a "go to" course for me.

Most tee boxes had good coverage. The fairways are the best i’ve seen them with very good coverage and very green.
Greens were smooth and running a little slower than usual but still medium quick. There was one green that showed some damage and had some strips plugged in that need more time to grow in. The hole was cut far enough away so it did not effect play.
Check in is at a window so you don't go inside the shop and the snack bar is closed and I never saw a cart. My teetime was 7:15 and we finished in 3:30. I talked with a guy in the cart barn after my round and he said the county has someone there every morning checking up on how they sanitize the carts.

Took a chance that Marshall Canyon would be open, and they are in fact open, at least for today. As expected, not very crowded. Playing golf now is strange, because you kind of think this might be the last round for who knows how long ?

As per the last review, greens very good, faster than they looked. Held shots well (Thanks to the rains I suspect) The rough is absolutely brutal in spots, so need to keep it in the fairway. Bunkers were a mixed bag, wet, compacted, but at times OK.

I enjoy playing here, but today I just could not get "my head in the game" very distracted.

Played here with a friend 3/15/20 with a 7:37 am tee time. We were able to get out 20 minutes early thanks to the rain! Check in and pro shop was easy and friendly. Course is in good shape but not GREAT shape. Everything is very green from all the rain but fairways are long and rough is even longer. Hasnt been mowed in awhile due to the excessive rain i think.

Greens- 8/10 - rolled 100% true but were real slow due to the saturation
Fairways- 7/10- As I said green and good coverage but kinda long grass for fairways
Rough- 7/1- too long, sometimes we couldnt find a ball it was buried in the rough, definitely penalty worthy though
Sand- cant rate cause i wasnt in any traps but my friend was in 3 and said sand was firm and not fluffy so ill give it a 5/10
Tee boxes- 7/10- all were pretty good with the exception of hole #2 and I think hole 6( whichever is the #1 handicap par 4) those two holes were chewed up a bit. Hole 9 was a little tore up too.

Pace of play was 4 hours and cost was $56. Way too much money for playing in the rain on a public course. This is a $35 course maybe $45 if taken care of properly. Right now it's overpriced.

I always enjoy playing this course because I rarely have any difficulty getting out early, coupled with the great senior rate of $15.75, and the wonderful views and having all the deer around, is just so cool!

However, this morning it was as busy as I have seen it, quite a few people waiting for the shop to open, but we were still able to get out first and moved around well until we ran into a 5-some on #14. They did allow us to play through on #16, which was good.

Every time I play here I comment how great it would be if the greens would roll as quickly as they had the first time I played here. Well, today, the greens were just like I remembered. It was fun watching the shots role out after hitting the greens. (Just like Augusta National - well maybe not just like Augusta, that would be a stupid comparison) But on some of the downhill putts, I'd bet they rolled 12-13 on the stimp. Great fun to play with the greens being so quick. The rest of the course was typical Marshall Canyon. Fairways mostly decent with some areas needing attention. Bunkers had enough sand, but could use some raking. Tee boxes for the most part were good, not too chewed up.

This is such a wonderful, fun, golf course to play under these conditions. It's visually appealing, enough of a challenge to keep your interest, but still affords lots of birdie opportunities. Great way to begin the week !

Have been taking lessons here with Bruce Thompson and figured i should post a review of the course. Always love this course (moved to live right by it). For all its quirks, it really is a good course. Played January 12, 2020 and it was in typical Marshall Canyon condition. Pace of play for a twosome was about 3.5 hours on a Sunday afternoon.

Greens were still impossible to read, and were very fast. Was still able to putt decent, but I will never really have the greens figured out here.

Fairways were in surprisingly decent shape. Some muddy spots, but very little bare area. Grass was actually pretty decent in fairways. Never an even lie in the fairway, but course is sitting on the side of a mountain.

Rough was spotty. Some shots had long grass, some had crab grass, some were on nothing but pine needles. More importantly than the playing surface, was the fact that there were all sorts of covered holes, meaning that i could not get a good lie in the rough. Upside, they trimmed some trees, so i did nit have to punch out as often as i have in the past.

Tee boxes were really uneven. I wish they would fix their tee boxes. They have been investing a lot into the course as of late, so i assume they will level out the tee boxes at some point. Still, the unevenness cost me a couple shots from the tee.

Staff is always great here. Matt and Cameron in the pro shop/cart barn are great. Bruce is great - again, i get lessons from him, as does my kid. Food service is great - bev cart was around a few times this afternoon.

Also, course just replaced their carts. New carts are really nice, even if they do not have gps in them.

All in all, i love Marshall. It is my home course and i will play it until they kick me off. Also, do not come here as i do not want it to become San Dimas, Diamond Bar or Mountain Meadows - i like the 3.5 hour rounds.
