I get up here (Palmdale) once in a while and drag my Dad away from "Desert Aire" 9 hole. We had a 6:45 tee time and it was crowded! Lucky no wind today! We played as a twosome and had to wait a lot for a foursome who just had to play from the Blue tees even though the could not reach any of the landing areas? Why??? Move up and have some fun people. These guys did not have a good day! Dad shot 80 (he's 76!) We played the Whites and I got away with a smooth 75! So much fun! Tee boxes were perfect and the fairways were very, very nice! Just enough grass to get a club on the ball! Get the yardage book and shoot for the 150 markers! Greens were firm enough to roll true, ( I left a few Birdies ) but held 140 and in shots perfectly. Very little roll out! ATTACK it!! If you have to play the Blue tee's please be a least a 15 hdc. ? They were working on the 17th greenside bunker which was out of play as the pin was tucked way back right side away from the work! smart! It's a little out of the way but recommended. ;) go play!

Had the chance to play this morning at 11:30 as a single and finished in 3 hours flat. Course didn't seem too busy but I did play through a handful of groups kind enough to let me through until the last 3 holes, or else would have finished in 2 1/2 hours. The course is generally in good playing condition for a muni course and would definitely play again, from the correct tee next time. I played from the blues without looking at the scorecard and thought to myself, either I am hitting it long off the tees or the warm dry high altitude coors field air was carrying my drives a loooong ways, leaving me with very short approach shots, shorter than usual. Not until the turn at the 10th did I realize the blues only played 6,200+ and that I should have played from the tips (gold I think) which plays about 6,600+ yards. Oh well, live and learn. But I am gonna convince myself that it was my excellent ball striking off the tees for leaving short approach shots... and that's my story and I am gonna stick with it!

The tee box were in good condition and level for the most part. Fairways were green, in good condition and ran out a decent amount. Roughs were in good condition, not penal and easy to hit out of. Some of the rough areas had brown grass that gave it a good contrast to the green fairways. The bunkers were raked in a good condition but the 2 that my ball landed in seemed a little damp but playable. Greens were nice with little to no ball marks, but had some residual sand on them though it didn't affect putting. It ran medium and held shots well. It was a gorgeous day with slight breeze to off set the warm sunny golfing weather. I would definitely play there again, from the correct tees, when I am in Palmdale/Lancaster area.

Played yesterday morning at 8:00. Course was EMPTY.

Pace of Play - 10/10. Flew around the front 9 in an hr & 10 minutes, that's how empty it was. Caught up to people on the back (#10) so the back took twice as long, but still a 3 hr round on a beautiful friday morning is not too shabby. Pace of play was excellent to say the least.

Tees - 7/10. Not sure if it was because the ground was still frozen underneath or they hadn't quite finished moving all the boxes around yet, but tees looked a little worn with divots in some areas and a few weren't too level.

Rough - 8/10. Luckily, I didn't find the rough today. Was either in the natural area or rolled through to the other side fairway. Guess I hit 14 fairways, and some of them twice - that still counts right? For those who haven't played this course, it's pretty tough to actually stop in the rough. Course is WIDE open so stray shots are almost always playable. Rating is based on my cousins feedback, said it wasn't too long/tough to hit from but had a few thin spots.

Fairways - 8/10. Few spots were thin, few were soaked wet but overall in decent shape. I maintain that in the afternoon when the course is thawed out, this place has some of the best fairways around. Few areas (shady areas) were still frozen underneath which made for some thin shots.

Greens - 6/10. This is more a rating of the weather in Palmdale and how it affects the conditions of the greens than the greens themselves. Ususally this course has pretty decent greens. Took me 4 holes to figure out that the ground was still frozen solid underneath the surface. Watched a pitch shot hit the green and proceed to bounce 4ft in the air then roll another 35ft by the pin. This is how the rest of the greens were throughout the round. This actually brings up an interesting question - what is the etiquette for repairing ball marks on ground where you cant dig your divot repair tool in? We tried to fix as many marks as we could, but couldn't get the tool in more than a few centimeters.

Sand - 8/10: Despite the cold conditions, the sand was still soft. Balls found a way to plug and didn't roll out like you would think they normally would. Not sure if it was a function of soft sand or it was a little wet or what - either way it was soft.

Played course on Monday (11/11). Tee'd off at 10:30 and POP was just over 4 hours. Nice municipal course just making the transition between summer/winter grasses. A few thin spots but otherwise acceptable tee to green. The greens make this course and most were smooth, but all were very quick, especially if you were above the hole. Weather was excellent (75 degrees no wind) and the locals we played with mentioned that the wind is this course's biggest hazard. I really enjoyed the course and now is the right time to play the course.

Played here on Monday for my "Fathers Day". Got a great rate from Group Golfer!.. Got to the course at 9 for a 10 am T time. While waiting a guy walks up to the starter and asks if he and his buddy can get out. Starter asks him when and he says 10 and he tells him no problem??? Gave the guy my "coupons" to play. Four of em. He tells me he'll call us. I buy three range tokens and my foursome go to warm up a little.. then we putt.... then we wait....... It's 10:15. I see the twosome t off. I go to the "bathroom" and then to the starters desk...He's watching....the Golf Chanel! I say to him "hey! While were young!!" He laughs and says, "ya while were young" I say,,, are you going to call my group to the T box?? he asks what is your name? I say 10:00 o clock t time!.. He says Im good to go? Bad CS as far as Im concerned..."The home of the Players Club"?? After that it was smooth sailing.. 4 Birdies later, I'm calm down. No one in front of us and no one behind! What was really great for us was the weather. I have been so lucky that the wind was not howling!! This is a gem of a track if you can ever get out here. I only play here a few times a year and that's because my Dad live in Palmdale! This is the "Only" course out here besides the Palmdale CC and Crystal Air. Great course but the staff needs to be on point no matter what day of the week it is!

First off let me start by saying HELLO!. I've been slackin big time on my reviews lately so I apologize for that.

Anyways, on to the review-

Played today at 1:30 with a Golfnow tee time of 2:42. that's right, got there early to hit balls and putt and the pro shop got us out an hour early. There was a shotgun tourney finishing up their last couple holes right when we teed off so there was a slight holdup. Not a big deal though.

Teeboxes were in GREAT shape. There was a flat spot on every single one of them, with plenty of good grass to hit from. Watered nicely, cut short, just great over all. I would rate these an 8/10. Only give it an 8 because generally half the boxes had a slope in them.

Fairways were also in GREAT shape. Same conditions as the teeboxes. Cut short, great grass, watered well. Few areas were being worked on or had GIR, but they were roped off and not really an issue. Just in great shape overall. I would rate the fairways 8/10.

Rough was a little long. Few dead spots but for the most part the grass was plush. Very easy to get a little drag on your swing when going through the rough and leave it out to one side. Overall, i'd give it a 7/10.

Sand - some, okay MOST of the bunkers (I was only in 2, luckily) were in great shape. Soft, fluffy sand, raked and taken care of. I did notice a few that had some standing water though and looked pretty rough. I would give the bunkers a 6/10 overall, just due to the few that were in rough shape. For the rest, i'd say 8/10

Greens - SLOW. Not a lot of ball marks, so that was good. Tough pin placement. Little long on the grass on the greens helped to slow everything down. This was really the only part of the course that I didn't love today. Rating these a 6/10, as I've seen them in better shape here. Still, not a reason to steer clear of this course.

Overall, the course was in pretty great shape. Giving this place an 8/10 today. If you get a chance to come play, make sure you check the weather. Usually pretty windy in Palmdale so before you drive out of the way to come up here make sure you check.

I played out here today. I had bought a Group Golfer voucher ($29 with cart) awhile back and finally decided to use it before it expired at the end of the month. I knew the weather was supposed to be nice and not windy as you might normally expect here. It was gorgeous up there and that helped make for an enjoyable round. The voucher was good only after 10am on weekends, so I just walked on. Got there right at 10 and was out on the course paired with another twosome about 10:15. Front nine was a great pace, then slowed down on the back. Still, just over 4 hours, which is excellent.

The course is in decent shape coming out of winter conditions. I can imagine it's tough to keep this course up with the extreme high and low temps of Palmdale. The fairways were patchy, but mostly green. It appears the grass is really just coming in, so I can imagine it will look really nice in a few more weeks. The rough is completely dormant and just shaved down to nothing in most places. Bunkers full of great soft sand. Greens were very firm and hard to hold on approaches, but rolled smooth on putts at medium/quick speeds. Tee boxes very nice for the most part. Certainly not the best conditions you'll ever see here, but not bad for this time of year. I look forward to playing here again someday when it's in peak condition.

This is a fun desert style course that's a very nice change of pace in LA County, even though it's definitely out of the way. On one hand, though, that's a good thing because it doesn't get as overcrowded. Overall, the layout is pretty forgiving, but offers enough challenge and diversity to keep things interesting. There's not a ton of trouble to get into and the mounding around the fairways tends to be more helpful than harmful on wayward shots. As a desert style course, it doesn't quite measure up to what you might find in the Palm Springs area in terms of conditioning, design, scenery and service, but it's a unique course for LA County and they always seem to have plenty of deals going on. If I lived in North LA, I would gladly make the trek out here more often to get away from the muni drudgery!

One last thing to note is that they are redoing the arrangement of the tee boxes and the printed scorecards have not been updated. What is listed as blue on the card is now actually the gold tees on the course. What is white on the card is now blue, and so on. One of the guys I played with also mentioned they are planning to add in some black tee boxes to make it a more "championship" level course in the future. Seems the newest owners are doing a lot of good things here.

Played today and it was great weather - especially for Palmdale. Anyone who has been here knows it's either windy or it's WINDY - and today it was dead still. Course was dried out big time - greens couldn't hold a shot at all, yet were somehow VERY slow and had tons of divots. Don't think I've fixed that many divots that weren't my own in a few years. Fairways were patchy with a lot of divots (but hey that's a muni for ya) and rough was dormant. Barranca's were clean so you could play your ball out of just about the entire course. Tee boxes were in decent shape - flat but a little over played. Given the fact that it snowed in Palmdale two days ago, and that this course is usually in tip top shape, I'm going to give it a pass for today's sub-par conditions. One thing I would suggest to the management though, is to work on getting the birds off the course on 8 and 18. There are far too many on the holes with water and as a result your shoes, walking carts, etc. are all covered in poop. Not to mention you're hitting out of it if you happen to be so unlucky and land it in.
