Played San Dimas Yesterday for a 635am tee time with a some of the guys from the shop.

The Covid protocol between all these course locally is so drastically different. San Dimas, you cannot share carts unless you live with the person but not if you drove together. I spent more time on the first tee with this riddle than I did managing my tee shot.

Tee Boxes, they were pretty good although some of them were kinda shredded.

Fairways were all pretty good except for a couple in the back that were brown but its the usual San Dimas.

Sand Traps, traps were hit and miss. On a couple of them bigfoot must have been having a rough day. Huge footprints in some of them. The sand was that previously wet but now baked dry, Its a shame because the sand quality here is pretty good.

Greens, greens are generally pretty snappy here. Some tough pins and the greens were rolly. Of course theres those holes where the greens break contrary to natural physics.

San Dimas is a fun course because theres so many shots to hit off the tee and the greens can give you fits sometimes.

Played with friends this morning and were the 3rd out. POP, 3 1/2 hours in a cool overcast sky. San Dimas isn’t that long but played longer due to the heavy air. The course isn’t in bad shape, but, in my opinion, not in great shape. In contrast to the prior review, they must have moved the tee boxes because we were hard pressed the entire round To find a level one. The greens were very good. Nice fluffy sand in the bunkers. After many years of coming out here, hit my first power line on nine. I’ve always thought the layout interesting and maybe play this course four times a year coming from Santa Clarita.

I played here on Tuesday. Check in required mask be worn, and #socialdistancing. The course layout is fun and challenging. The tee boxes are firm,and flat with some "hacker" divots. The fairway is firm, so good rolls for added distance is a plus. The rough is cut low and nice to play out of. The bunkers are firm (no rakes) and playable, if you choose to play out of them. The greens are very good. They are rolling firm and med-fast, with a true read to the cup. I will definitely play here again.

Played San Dimas 6/17 7:40 tee time. Course check in okay. Social distancing not a problem with no crowds around pro shop, or cart waiting area. Course conditions are decent but not what I would term as great. Close to half of the tee boxes were not level or were fairly torn up. Fairways were mostly good but are starting to get very thin spots with the heat. Rough is fine and manageable 1 1/2 to 2 inches. Greens very slow nicely cut just very slow and not many ball marks. The sand is really nice sand, but without rakes it doesn't matter. Nice day for golf at a nice course.

Played Fri june 5th at 7am, told at check in, each 4 some got 2 carts for the bags, but only allowed 1 rider, the other person had to walk. So I always have my cart in the trunk so I decided to walk the course with my push cart. It was a gentle rain for the 1st 9 holes, actually nice. The 1st 8 holes are not bad to walk, the last 10 got to me, I am almost 68 and was feeling it at 18. There was no starter. We had 4 4 somes and we were 1st out. Our next group went 2 riders per cart, and our 3rd group (with 3 guys 75 years old) took 3 carts. I should had listened to "kvisor" and learned that rule are meant to be broken. There was a Marshal out there but he just rode around. there were many many 2 per cart on the course. The course was in real good shape, a few uneven tee boxes, but fairways and greens real nice. Thought I would see allot or deer but not 1, they were practising social distance, ROFL

Played 5/28 at 0700. Check in quick/efficient.
All on course areas in great shape. Real sand in bunkers!

Exceptional great rate for walking seniors and this is not a tough
course to walk!!!

Played here 5/9/20 with a 5:50am tee time. Was the 3rd group off the tee box once LA COUNTY opened for play. Played with a friend in a twosome. What can I say about this course.... it never changes..... Everything in amazing conditions. Course conditions were awesome and pace of play wasnt bad considering they were making one person walk while the other guy rode. (Some ridiculous LA County rule.) I guess 2 people cant even sit in the same cart. We mastered this to make sure the guy who had the worse shot in the trees always took the cart to go look while the other walked to his ball in the fairway. It didnt slow down pace believe it or not.

Greens- 10/10 fast and rolled true speed was real quick
fairways-10/10 green great coverage and lush
rough- 8/10- a little long in some areas but for the most part able to find a ball and still play it but grabbed the club a bit
tee boxes- 9/10- almost perfect, a couple had just a bit of damage...
water- smelled and didnt seem clean
sand- 10/10- white fluffy sand, was in 2 traps and both were well kept.

Paid $53 per person. Perfect price for this course. Wouldn't pay over $60 for it. It's a good course, watch out for hole 9 par 5, definitely the hardest hole on the course in my opinion.

I waited a couple days to post this – I’m trying to get over my thought that I may be through with SDCGC after last Saturday, 3/7/20. Played with my monthly club at 9am on a cloudy, breezy day that surprisingly cleared up and was mildly warm by noon. Since almost every course in SoCal is dealing with the realities of a dry winter (firm dormant turf, dry conditions), you can virtually count on dry turf and firm greens. The rub (for me, at least) with advancing age and various inconvenient medical issues, the more slopey courses built against the foothills become problematic in terms of my being able to navigate the physical challenges and stay focused on the shot execution.

Many holes at SDCGC offer narrow aspects off the tee and make the golfer really think about where to place the ball. With the course being not overly long and with current turf conditions driver is not always required, and good placement of shots is often preferable to sheer length. That said, there are factors here at SDCGC that really impact playability – many holes have significant tree issues in terms of narrowing landing areas and restricting lines off the tee; and, MOST of the teeboxes (we played White) are BADLY sloped or domed. Boxes had been punched but that really didn’t present a problem – the main issue was the severe sloping, behind a right-handed golfer, that affected my ability to shape the required shots (as much of the trouble here is along the left side of many holes) and avoid tree trouble. And this wasn’t just minor sloping, but severe sloping. Even across the box and within 2 club lengths from the markers a good spot could not be found.

Greens were very firm and showed only small ballmarks. They had very good coverage and rolled mostly smoothly at medium-fast speeds, and you had to be aware of where the foothills were and watch the downhill rollouts. Many pin positions had some serious breaks right around the hole locations, frustrating our entire group. Fairways and rough were thin and dry, and frequently patchy/clumpy/bare. Rough was dry and bumpy - travelling over many rough areas in the cart was teeth-rattling. We played lift/clean/place so I didn’t rate the course. Sand was in great shape in all bunkers I was in or saw partners in. Tees – see above.

Carts have a ProLink Solutions GPS but the screen was too dark to be very useful; two of the carts parked together showed a 9-yard difference to the same pin position. GPS has 10 buttons but only 3 are labelled for use, so who knows what features we might have missed (approach view; menu to report problems; etc.). Hole 14 is so stupid (layup off tee short of the pond, then long iron/hybrid into the wind) that players were bombing drives into 15th fairway and then playing back to the 14th green– it reminds me of Hidden Valley #12 (tee a 5-iron short of the ravine, then hit 5-iron to the green).

Many distractions today, which is likely a combination of course conditions and lack of concentration due to my advancing age – harder to focus. It was windy and we had a mix of people in our group who preferred the flag in or flag out while putting, so there was a lot of moving the flag back and forth while we all missed short putts. Directly behind us we had the noisiest group on the course, who also hit into us, drove next to greens, and was yelling at us to hurry on #16 (we were in position). Public golf!

I’m trying to decide if SDCGC is just too slopey and quirky for my taste, aside from fighting the poor conditions. We’ll see.

Played this morning in 3.5 H. Very cold start but warmed up nicely. Tee boxes were OK. Fairways seemed thin to me, so precise contact was necessary, but some decent roll in them. Not much rough to speak of, but plenty of OB and some water, that will need to be avoided. Traps were playable. Greens were in good shape with good speed. Lots of blue flags which required close approaches or good lag putting. Good customer service at all levels.
