Finally had the chance to play here over the wknd. I knew it would be a scorcher...and it was, but I was really looking forward to it. The guy in the pro shop and starters were pretty nice and helpful. The grass range and pyramid balls are always a treat to us muni dregs :) I was a little surprised/disappointed to see the practice greens were aerated but relieved to see the course greens were not. Impressions. Our group played from the black tees and found this course to be quite a challenge for us TPC-V virgins. As prior posts have said, local knowledge can be worth 5-6 strokes easy. The overall conditions of the course were what u could expect from a private club. I've heard that the pros prefer to play Valencia C.C. over this place and I can really see why. The course has multiple blind shots and forced carries. Especially the back 9. Often times I would hit what I thought was a good shot but was penalized by o.b. or obstructions. A couple of clowny holes like the par 5's. It was HOT and tricky and I became surprisingly happy/relieved when 18 came around. I usually feel the opposite way. Not sure how much the weather played on my overall enjoyment that day. It seemed to beat me/us up unfairly a few times leaving us frustrated. I think that if given the chance to be played often it can grow on you. But with the unlikely chance of that ever happening I don't think I'll drop another $100 to get out here again....well maybe. (the cart girl was smokin!)

Customer service was outstanding. Having a greeter when we parked who took our bags to the cart, pyramid shaped range ball already on each stall, friendly marshalls and coordinators. Couldn't have asked for a better experience. Play this when you get the opportunity.

Tee boxes to fairways to the sand were spectacular. Only problems I had were the slow greens. Not what I was expecting. According to the starter it ran an 8 on the Stimp. didn't believe him until we putted our first green. He wasn't exagerating. The other item I found frustrating on the site is course knowlege is KEY here. You have to know where to place the ball b/c of some blind shots. Fun course just kept asking myself where the windmill or the giggling clown was b/c some of the course features felt kinda gimicky. Greens were easy to read. Just felt I could have shaved easily 5-6 strokes just with course knowledge. For a newbie to the course it could go a long way to managing the course and your strokes.

Aside from that... course was in great shape. Amazing for Valencia in the middle of a heat with a nice easy wind blowing. Course plays tight and placement is key as is course knowledge but I will see how I shall fair next time I get there.

Played TPC Valencia yesterday in the Greenskeeper.org "casual event" put on by The Big Dog. The tourney was run so very well, I can't tell you how worthwhile these events are. Great people (Thanks Kevin, Jim and Bernie for a great afternoon of golf!!), a chance to play a great course that is usually private for an outrageous price! You can't ask for anything better!

As for the course, this was my first time at TPC-V. Course-knowedge is a big factor here if you want to score well. I would do things a bit differently next time out, as I did not play particularly well...but that's not the course's fault.

It's not my favorite type of layout. A little "target-y" for my tastes. Although the fairways are by-and-large fairly wide and generous, the flat-lie/optimum hitting areas are few-and-far-between.

When I was on the fairway, I found than to be lush and quite nice. The rough is not too thick, but still not where you'd want to be.

The greens look nice, a few areas are turning brown, but that's a matter of aesthetics and really did not effect play. For as nice as they were (held most shots well) - - they were much slower than I would have imagined they's be. Yes, the tip given to us by the starter is true, for the most part, "all putts break toward the freeway"....but on the front-side, I must have left 8-9 putts short. Uphill, against the grain was like putting through glue. A little disappointing, as this was not what I was expecting from country-club greens.

Impressive note: The G.M. himself was out watering the greens!! Outstanding!!

The cool-towel delivery was a nice bonus....

Saw the cart-girl four times (2x on the front-side, 2x on the back).

The staff and everybody at TPC-V were very nice and the whole atmosphere was just amazing.

Would I like a steady-diet of nothing but courses like TPC-V? Probably not. But it was a wonderful day! Thanks to CalFootDoc and TheBigDog for putting this one together! A++

Greens still not holding. They are soft with sandy base under grass but could not get a ProV1 or Callaway 56 tour to spin and hold. Especially the 9 th hole.

I drove my daughter and some other kids around this course during a golf camp and was happy that they were the ones playing. The front nine was playable however the back nine was maybe the poorest example of "challenging layout" I've seen in some time. I would not play this course if they let me on for free! To think that people actually moved to this place from Valencia CC just boggles the mind. Obviously, you don't always get what you pay for.
