Played Wilson today and had a great time! It reminded me of some of the city courses back home in the Seattle area. The pace of play was slower like I am used to. (Not what I LIKE, just what I am used to) The fairways looked like they had just been cut but the grass was still a little more thick than my Seattle courses. There was not a whole lot of difference between the rough and fairway. A couple of the tee boxes were s little beat up but over all in pretty good shape. The greens were beat up with a LOT of unrepaired ball marks.

I could see myself playing this course all the time if I were an LA resident. Overall it was a very fun course and a great day for golf!

It's been a while since my last review of Wilson because I just haven't played it in over a year after being a regular here the past few years. This USED to be one of the most crowded and played course in LA, with hour long waiting lists. Yesterday I was able to walk on and almost played as a single (they ran a fella out to join me last second). The lack of seniors, who many have been priced out due to the increase in their fees was noticeable. I've ranted about the unfairness before, so I'll just begin my review. Less crowds meant a lot faster round, about 4 hrs. Due to the increased fees it looks like they are actually spending some of it on maintenance of the course. The greens have never been better. Fast, smooth and true. I holed several putts with confidence beyond 10 ft. The overall look of the course is very green for the Summer. The fairways were lush/firm and provided very good roll outs on my drives. The biggest issues I saw were with several tee boxes that were located in uneven divot filled sections. But overall, Wilson conditions are very good to excellent. Daily rates to walk seem $teep to me, especially if you are a non-resident or play Friday-Sunday. Too bad more folks aren't getting to enjoy it. Maybe with a new Mayor in LA, they can do something about that.

Played today 4-20 afternoon. Tee time was for 2 pm but ended up teeing off at 220. Finish the first hole in about 15 mins and ended up waiting on the 2nd hole for 45 mins to hit our tee shot. Played the front nine in 3 hrs plus. Love the layout of the course and its usually in decent shape, but I won't be playing here on the weekends anymore. It's ridiculous how the starter just pack in all the players at start. When you go to other course, you pay, then wait for one group on the tee. Not here. You pay then wait 5-6 groups on the tee. We ended up finishing 18 holes playing 17-18 holes in the dark.

My first time playing here and I will say I was very pleased with this course. The putting greens are very nice. The driving range is old but acceptable for getting warmed up and $6 for 60 balls does the trick. The course was in great condition. Fairways were in very nice condition, providing good roll and lies; greens were solid and rolled true and I hope for all those who play, they come back this good after aeration. Traps appeared in good shape, though oddly enough no one found one all day. No trouble finding a good spot on the tees. And the pace of play for a Monday afternoon 4:15. Given this is a City of LA course, I did not know what to expect in the conditions, pace of play etc. but it more than exceeded my expectations. Perhaps we caught it on a good day, right time of year but it is a solid golf course and great layout of holes. Good test of golf and worth playing and putting on your courses to play in LA County.

OK so this is my first review ever!
OK, so it's L.A. City public golf. By now you all know what that means. They put out groups in 6 minute intervals, so take it for what it is. It's still a good place to practice and to hit it out there. Still a fun layout.
Mature trees on both sides.
If the greens are cut, they're really good, with lots of undulations and slopes and can be very tricky. The fairways and rough are like cow pasture, with all kinds of grasses growing, but there's an art to playing out of that stuff. The bunkers are never raked by anybody, so it is what it is.
The time it takes to play can be a pain at times, so try to get out there early in the morning before 9 and you'll be done in 4 to 4.5 hours. After that, be ready for 5 plus most of the time, and 6 on the weekends.

There's a reason why I stay away from these tracks (Wilson/Harding) for a reason and drive outside the city to play even though I live literally 1 minute away. For as much play as these courses get and how they pack them to the gills, you would think they would groom the dam fairways a bit better and maintain some kind of lushness. I played Harding on Friday (1/18) and was so deeply disappointed in the condition, besides the greens that were actually rolling a bit quicker than usual. Every great drive I had I would be penalized with such a horrible lie whether in a divot or thin lies with nothing but wet ground. It's a shame because I think Harding has one of the prettier closing holes that I enjoy playing. I then played Wilson on Monday (1/21) and the conditions were no different. Again, great long drive only to be stuck in a divot or thick patch of wild grass that they try to pass off as rough or thing, muddy lies that wouldn't allow for a the ball to sit up or get any decent hit. I've always enjoyed these tracks when the conditions are a bit better and not too busy, and I know it's winter and courses dry out, but I have played Robinson's and played out in the I.E. and I have to say, it's like hitting of nice, green carpet on those fairways. How the hell can L.A. City courses have the audacity to raise their green fees, pack the courses so much with eager hackers and not have it in their right mind to get some decent greenskeepers that know how to maintain a fairway? I won't be coming back to these tracks for a long while. It's not worth my money. I'd rather spend it on gas to drive 30 to 45 mins, even an hour, to pay what they charge at Wilson, with cart included. What a rip off!

Played on Saturday 1/19. Tee time 9:16 teed off at 9:30 (good for a Saturday here). My first time on the Wilson course, I always play Harding. I have to say I really enjoyed it! Nice mix of long and short holes along with large greens. Considering the cold weather we've been having the course was in above average shape and the greens were great! I played with three other singles, Ramon, Kwong and Kim. Thanks guys for a really enjoyable round. We finished in exactly 5 hours. I will play Wilson again!

Carts should not have been allowed after all the rain. The fairways look like muddy construction sites with damaging tires tracks everywhere. The fairways are very thin to begin with. Many areas of standing water. It is a mess. Greens not bad with a few bumps. Bunkers ok if you avoid the footprints. Enjoy.
