Have been coming to these golf courses off and on since 1988 and have seen their many trials and tribulations. Played yesterday for the twilight rate of $28 PP with cart, which should be the regular rate. Teed off a little after 1:00 and finished in just under four hours, a rarity here. One of the only good things to come from the price hikes is less play. Course in the usual so-so condition, greens punched a few weeks ago and are still recovering, bumpy and bushy. Managed to stay out of the bunkers so nothing to report there, fairways spotty, no delineation from fairway to rough, rough high in some places, bare in others. We always play winter rules here due to choppy conditions. A few years ago they had this place and Harding in really good shape and now it seems they are letting things slide again. You would think they would have plenty of budget for maintenance with the very high green fees they put in place. If you play here on a Friday with cart, it is $54 (resident rate), hardly worth it. In front of the 7th green there was a big pile of twisted rope and spikes in a big clump of grass and dirt. Seems maintenance here is willy nilly and not managed very well. The three individuals who are in charge of LA City golf have done this city a great disservice by jacking the rates and then cutting back on maintaing the courses for which they are responsible. The whole idea of City course was to keep it affordable. And they wonder why rounds are down?

Played in a tournament on Sunday, 11/4. Teed off 20 minutes late and pace of play was about 5 hours. Long day in the sun. The greens were recently aerated. They were bumpy but faster than they looked. They were actually okay.

The rest of the course is kind of ragged. The fairways are okay with some bare spots. The rough is tough in some areas and bare in others. I was in one sand trap and there was no sand. Another guy in the group said there was decent sand in the one he was in. The tee boxes had considerable divot damage. Some of the cart paths are dangerously rutted or broken.

I like the track. It plays long for its yardage. The greens can be challenging. It was not in great condition though.

Played Tues 10-16. Off with 5th group, 4 hrs great pace from tips, which is getting to be way to long now adays.

Fairways in good shape. Rough thick. Bunkers - not a lot of sand- skulled a wedge on 1 which turned par putt into triple. Note to self- keep head down on short stuff- turned good ball striking round into 94 with some bad wedges. Will come back Sat to see if 94 is real or last month's 83 is.

This is one tough hombre from the blue stones- no roll, long par 3's 2 of the 3.

Very good shape- best greens I've seen her in a while.

Easy course to walk.

Played for the first time on Monday 10/8. For a muni it is a decent course. The greens rolled fairly well. The fairways were good. The rough varied from thin to whoops I missed that spot with the mower. I was in two bunkers. The fairway bunker was in good shape but the greenside was so hard I would have been better off chipping out. The layout was enjoyable. The staff was nice. 8am tee time, teed off at 7:45, and finished in 4 hrs.

Played Wilson on 9-14-12. At 2pm Twilight this is a really good deal, as long as you are out there during the week. The pace on the weekends is unbearable. Started the round at 3, and finished at 7.

The teeboxes were in decent shape, not perfect, nor too chewed up. They seem to be rotating them quite well so they are not sustaining a lot of damage.

The fairways continue to be kinda green with plenty of brown patches. But overall the cut is good and the dried out patches are usually not really in play. With the severe heat the past several weeks, I think they are doing a good job of keeping the fairways up.

The rough is much improved on the course. I heard there will be some sort of tournament in a few weeks on the course so they are growing it out. I would believe this, for on some of the holes the rough is extremely penal. 5-7 inches on some holes. I spent a lot of time in the rough, and it really affected my score. Very green and lush.

I did not visit any of the bunkers, but they looked to be in average condition, the sand did not look to soft, nor to compact. The greens were sort of a mixed bag. Some ran rather quick, others not so much. You can tell they are constantly watering them, they were extremely soft. With short 15 yard chip shots leaving ball marks. Most of the greens were rather well taken care of, and did not show a ton of damage.

Overall the course seems to be in rather good shape, no major gripes. If you can play during the week it can be an enjoyable round, and definitely worth the fee.

Played Wilson on August 23, 2012 with usual foursome. Started at about 9:45am and finished around 2:45pm. Pace a little on slow side. Course was in pretty good shape. Greens were a little fast, but held shots, unless you mi sh$t chip or pitch, as I usually do. Lots of elevation changes and doglegs which make a fun round, no matter how good or bad you shoot.

Played Wilson on Thur Aug 2. Tee'd off at 11, finished at just after 4. The pace as noted in several posts below is not speedy by any means. This was my first time playing the course, and the group I was paired with had played it several times.

The tee boxes were hit or miss. On the par 3's they were severely beaten up, and some of the par 4's as well. Some of the boxes were in good shape, but not level. So you get one or the other generally.

The fairways were mostly good. They did have several ground under repair areas, as well as several brown burned out patches. Similar to my experience at Harding last week. These areas were rarely in play though so it did not really affect me.

The rough is another story. Here the grass was either US Open length, or brown scrub land. I found both several times during the day. The sand traps were in very poor condition, as I generally expect from the LA city courses. Extremely thin layer of sand over rock hard bottom, with lots of gravel mixed in.

The greens were in decent shape, they did not have too many un-repaired divots. Some of them ran a little quicker than others which is always frustrating. But from my perspective they were pretty smooth.

Overall I enjoyed the course, I thought the first couple of holes were excellent, as well as the last few coming home. The middle though is nearly identical to the sister course Harding, or Balboa. The course fits in with the rest of the valley muni's and does not really deserve a "premium" designation. With pace being over 5 hours, I would say hit one of the other courses and save yourself the money and time.

Played on a Friday morning (9:18) with Moneysworth. This is one of the City of Los Angeles' supposedly "premium" courses, but I can assure you it is no better than its adjacent course, Harding. It was my first time here and it was hot so I rode with my buddy. The cart was bad; it was shaky and hard to steer. Oh well. The wetness of the turf in many areas attracted swarms of yellow jackets and bees. Greens were soft, but inconsistent overall; slow, at times slower, and a little bumpy here and there. It was hard to dial in the proper speed and after a while I just figured to hit it firm and at least go past the hole. Fairways and rough were lush. Course personnel were syringing some greens or running select sprinklers to keep things green. For a premium course, I expected a little more. No biggie, I have other options. I guess I just wanted to check the course out.

Played today 5/29 with an 8:30AM tee time and got out on time, big problem with lots of gnats everywhere. Had not played here in about a year, and conditions were not great, decent yes. Problem here is that majority of players walk and don't carry sand bottle to fill the divots (we walked are are guilty also), or replace the huge chunks of divot they take. I replaced at least 2 on 80% of the holes, as well as fixing many of the ball marks on the greens.
Now for the course - tee boxes were fairly level with some divots, fairways were green with some dry spots and some thin spots and rolled very decent, rough was about 3" and also thin in some areas. The bunkers were good sand and decent to get out of with no footprints (guess those in front were staying out of them). The greens were the highlight, lush, receptive, around 9-10 on the stimp, ran true, with some ball marks but not extreme. About 4.5 hr round which for walkers is very decent time here. Worth the green fees - not by a longshot $38 ($25 for resident card) is on the high side I think.
